I love you guys. Thank you soooo much for everything! I'm trying not to post more than one place on the forum because I've gotten some bashing on another forum for posting a thread. Ahh, well, you do what you can, right? Actually, I just checked and my thread got pulled here, so it's probably against the forum rules.

I just want people to watch the video. That's it. Just be inspired for 3 minutes. If they watch it and feel like I'd be a good addition to the team, then bonus vote. Ya know?

I really do appreciate all of the positive feedback you guys have given me. I knew this would open me up to judgment, but man, it sucks when it happens.

Thanks guys.  I talked to Marma and I agree that it's opening a can of worms to let everyone post threads on BT, so any support you can offer is helpful by passing on to family, friends, or emailing those you may know in the endurance community.

i have all but decided to do the HIM in October i think now will be the best time for me to do something like this... no commitments to any one but my self and my job. so why not and its the first official year of it being a 70.3 event... something cool to be apart of.

i have found 4-5 different work outs and am having trouble finding one that i really like. Dollar do you have any that you recomend... i will be doing an olympic on june 22 and 2 long distances between the HIM.

any one else have anything that would be good

Hey Tri-DG - there are some good plans here on BT, I know several people who have done their first HIM using one of them. Which HIM are you doing again?

---

I saw my nutritionist again today and we worked out a good plan.  Goal right now is 3 good days to try and wipe out some of the cravings I'm having and get me feeling good.  I know I just need to get over the hump and it will get much easier.  It's always easier when you start seeing results!  Goal is to drop 30 lbs by August 2nd.

Give me all the dates so that I can get my head around it better.  There are a number of free plans available. You might have to be a performance member on this site to get access.  I think Trifuel and maybe TriNewbies has free plans.

Once I see the big picture, I can offer you some advice.

So - I have said screw it - I am working out again and I don't care what my stomach feels like or whatever.  Last night I rode the spin bike for 30 minutes with 15' spin - 3' 90 rpm - 2' 100 rpm - 1' 120 rpm - then 10' spin above 90 rpm.  Felt pretty good.  I will run tonight - probably 20 minutes or so.  I want to be back to 40 minute runs by then end of the month.  I can ride for 2 hours if I have to, so I am not concerned about that part, especially since my April race is only 16.2 miles on the bike, which I can easily do in less than an hour, especially on the course it is on.  Still a little concerned about the swimming, since I don't think I will be able to "swim" until middle of March at least, but Ken (Manatee Expresss) tells me that the swim on this course is pretty easy - he races this race every year since he lives there - and I shouldn't stress about it too much, especially since he thinks I will make up any lost time in the water on the bike.  We rode the course together when I went down there in December and it was a piece of cake out and back, with 1 small hill to deal with.  The only hard part is the fact that the back part is almost always into a head wind.

I managed to talk two completely non tri friends into doing the Danskin this year! We all registered last night and we're doing the mixed age waves so we can all go together and they are both rather nervous. Feels soooo good to be signed up for a tri once more.

I am now offski to register for the St Paddy's Day Dash

I'm also a little worried about being able to keep up with my training plan while I'm in Scotland in April. I can obviously run anytime and I have access to a 50 meter pool 2 minutes from my parents house but I will not have a bike. I *might* be able to get into my Dad's OAP gym and use the stationary bike there.

Advice anyone?

tri-dg - 2008-02-26 1:59 PM john what race are you talking about? the HY-VEE?

My first race is a sprint and it is The Mullet Man in Perdido Key, FL.  400 swim, 16.2 Bike, 4 run.  Hy-Vee is my first OLY, but I have a while until that.  I am not all that concerned about that, at this point. Come the beginning of June, I will be concerned about that.

If you are planning a HIM...you will need to be on the bike 3-4 times a week.  I would plan for a minimum of 15 hours of training per week.  Your typical weekend will include a 3-4 hour ride on Saturday and a 90-120 minute run on Sunday.

I haven't forgotten about your other question.  I just haven't been in front of a long range calendar to map out some suggestions.

How long are you there?  I assume if you have access to the pool they will have stationary bikes.  That seems like your only choice unless you can rent one.

It looks like Austin will fit nicely into your race schedule.  If I counted correctly, it is 15 weeks after Hy-Vee.  That is great timing.

As far as training plans go, you have several options.  Most HIM plans are 16-20 weeks so that fits nicely.  There is a free 20 week plan on BT.  You could take the week off afterwards and then jump in the plan at week 14.  Under the silver membership, BT does offer a 12 week Oly to HIM bridge plan.  You might be able to search around on the internet and find something similar.

In regards to your other races, I would slightly alter your training weeks to give your self a day or two of less intense workouts before and after those races.  I would not go into full taper but instead treat them as training days.  Understand that your performance MAY suffer as a result.  While your overall fitness is better, your performance maybe a bit weaker but that is because you will be racing on very tired legs.

Keep in mind (we are getting well ahead ourselves) that nutrition, rest, recovery and equipment are all going to start playing a vital role in your HIM experience.  You need to start thinking about all these things.  For instance, as your rides increase to 90-120 minutes, you need to start thinking about what type of tri shorts/suit you are going to wear.  You need to find shorts that you feel good wearing for 4 hours.  The earlier you find that the better.

For a month. I am just worried about being able to do the Oly plan sceduled bike ride which by then is over 2 hours. I am thinking that if I can get in 2 hours biking a week I should be ok. I'm not going to worry about it as I'm ok with biking really. It's my running that needs improvement.

On another note I got accepted into Team Javelin this morning! WOHOO!!!!

I would try to build as much bike fitness as possible and then maintain.  While you are there run, run, run and run.

Congrats on Team Javelin.  For $25, you get quality gear.  I raced in mine most of last year!

I have a pair of orca tri shorts and just bought a desoto Tri suit the other week. both fit well.. i havent worn either for a 4 hour ride yet though...

nutrition - i get the just of nutrition... around 200 cal per hour. i have been triaing on full - mid full stomach and sometimes eating a Protiene bar while im working out... i figure it will keep me used to eating - or goos and drinking ill prob use the goo, pt bar, and acceloraide on the bike.

Tri Bike... I wish i had 2-3k to spend on a tri bike. but as for now im using my trec 1500 w aero bars. if I could find a nice used one or on clearence i would think about getting one. also depends on how much i get back on taxes as well as my sales for the next few months.
