I'm totally wearing my tri-suit for it, too.  The life guards already think I'm crazy as it is.

Haha!! Did you really? If only I had my new wetsuit already...

Awesome job!

Oh yeah.  The red 2XU was on!  I guess I actually don't freak the lifeguard out anymore.  He just said, "Tri season must be getting close."  He even said I'd gotten faster.  I guess when you have to open the pool up at 5:15 every morning, that's a little crazy, too.

That 1:34/100yd pace is ten seconds speedier than what I had been doing.  I'm definitely ready to get in the open water and see how it translates.

Nice work!

Having plateaued at being able to sustain about 1:50/100yds for about 2000, I'm interested to here to what you attribute trimming that time . .

Drills, drills, and drills.  From speed work to stroke work.  Three days a week in the pool helped, too.  As opposed to the 2, 1, or zero I had been doing.

I don't know if anybody else has this problem, but here is mine.  The LBS has great service.  Nice guy, can hang out in the store, watch him work on some bikes, shoot the breeze, learn some stuff etc.  Problem is, he just doesn't have a lot of inventory.  The big box bike shop here has all kinds of cool stuff, but the service there SUCKS.  Make the sale, then move on kind of thing.  Soooo... that lead to me just buying a forward seat post and tri specific saddle online.  Both were $55 each at trizone.com.  Pretty good deal I think.  I'll be fitting myself on my trainer, though.

Anyway, I'll let ya know what it's like when they come in if anyone was thinking about those products.  I also ordered some Aquasphere Kaiman goggles in my endless search for the right ones.  My basic TYR that I found at WalMart work really well, but dang they are uncomfortable.

It was pretty brutal too. Was NOT feeling that. Got better though and I put in a solid 3.5 miles, a new PR for me distance wise
30 seconds...that's less than a 50. We should race again. Good motivation.
The girl I was swimming with finished a good 100 yards in front of me. She REALLY cleans up.

Happy weekend!

Good job, Grace!! I sense a nice rivalry developing here a la Chris McCormick and Norman Stadler. We will need more trash talk in the future, however.

It snowed another inch this morning. That's twice this week where it snowed and it wasn't even predicted. The other time was 4 inches. Do they count trainer time? I haven't ridden my bike outside (in Indiana) since November.

The trainer counts.  That's what I did in January.  I'm really hoping I see less of mine this month though.  Sunday is looking good with partly sunny skies and in the seventies.

Crossing my fingers.

Welcome back.  Train that cold away

How was the conference?

The conference went well. I swear training helps me with other parts of my life too. Forces me to be organized. With my 55 mile ride a few weeks ago and my 1.5 hour technical workshop last week, my confidence level is up a notch or two.

My cold is starting to go away. I didn't do much this week because my lungs are full of icky crap. I didn't want to swim either. I figured keeping my head dry would be good for a cold.

This weekend I have plans to do 2 bricks. This weekend and next will be the last 2 critical week/weekends for training before I taper. I am going to keep up some long bike rides, and start to ramp up swimming and running this next month. I want to try to peak with my running distance at the race (which could be foolish). I would like to do 11 miles prior to the race. And I want to get in the pool 3x a week during my taper.

Maybe I will try a mile pool swim and post the results. Bill and Grace had great times! Very inspiring.

How was everyone's weekend? It was actually 59F here yesterday. Supposed to be 35 again tomorrow but that's fine.

Anyways, who has the next triathlon in this group. It think it's Candice's HIM. Is that right?

I think you're right, and I'm getting seriously jealous of all the people getting to do tris this time of year.

You ready for 70.3 miles, Candace?

I don't feel ready. I am going to write up my training plan for the next 26 days and try my best to stick to it. I did a lot of sleeping this weekend and didn't make it out to train (BOO!!). But today I am going to try to fit a long run in during lunch. I am not quite over my cold and it is all in my lungs right now which stinks but maybe some cardio will help.

Woooh 70.3!! That's so exciting! That's my goal for '09. Maybe.

I hope everyone's weekend was much better than mine, as between Friday, Saturday and Sunday I spent 36 hours working on a take-home midterm, including a lovely 15 hour stretch yesterday. Managed to get in a very nice bike ride today; this week is supposed to be an easy week for me but it was sooo nice out (65 and sunny- perfect bike weather aside from the wind) I couldn't resist.
I pimped my ride a little this morning too- finally got water bottle cages & a bottle, a fold-up tool set, and a spare tube for the bike. Already I'm not sure how I survived those initial few rides without water
I also got a phone interview for an internship I realllly want for the summer. White House Council for Environmental Quality. It mostly went well, a couple tricky questions, but overall I am still hopeful. Should find out by the end of next week! Very exciting, keep your fingers crossed for me

I decided to give myself a personal mile time trial. I did 1800 yards. And counted it as 9 x 200's so I could keep track. The results are not as fast as Bill (28:20) and Grace (27:50) but I am happy. And it was my first ever long pool swim.

Great job all you swimmers! Candace, that time looks mighty fine with your race coming up so soon. Grace and Bill, I can't say anything else but outstanding. You've all convinced me: I'll play too. I did 2000 yards in the pool yesterday -- and I hit 1800 yards in . . .

34:14

My longest swim ever, too! And I'm breaking 2:00/100yds, something I never thought I'd do back when I was gasping for breath in November.

Just signed up for a tri-training series at the Y and found out they've got an instructor who teaches Total Immersion; I'm psyched to learn more about increasing efficiency.

Candace and Chris, that is AWESOME.  This is a pretty cool thing we got going here.  The most important thing is that we are all improving and getting better.  The toughest person to beat out there is yourself.

I read a thread today about finishing DFL.  A post really stuck out to me.

Triaya posted this:

it's exciting but not so inspiring to catch the 0.25millisecond glimpse of the leaders as they whiz by me.

It's incredibly inspiring to see you gutting it out, determined to finish no matter how you feel.

That's what almost 99% of us do this stuff for.  To find out exactly what kind of strength we have inside of us, not to find out how we compare to other athletes.  That's the beauty of individual endurance events.
