have any of you ever swum in a 68 degree lake without a wetsuit?  i think i'm going to have to on 6/1, and i'm not sure how i feel about that.  but i don't really want to buy a wetsuit either.  i do have plenty of "personal insulation" so i'm not especially concerned, but part of me is askeered of the cold temps.

The pool I swim in is maintained at 72, it's cold jumping in but after 200yrds it's perfect. I was at the IMKS 70.3 course yesterday for a race simulation, the water was 57*. I didn't not get in but there we 15 or so who braved it in wetsuits.

turns out i can kind fit my husband's wetsuit.  i never thought it coudl work seeing as he's over 6" taller than me and only about 25lbs heavier...but it kinda works.  so i'm going to try it in a lake sometime before the race to make sure i can handle it, and just wear that.  otherwise, i will suck it up .

I swam in Lake Tahoe in August 2006.  Water temp was approximately 68 and was really cold for a long time but the outside temp was high 80's so it did not take long to get warm once I got out.  I did finally get used to it but I am old now and big wimp.  If the suit works, I would use it.

Hey gang I'm back in the swing of things, everything is feeling pretty good. I have a little tendonitis in my right ankle, I guess I'm getting old but who cares. I'm in better shape than I have been in years. I gained about 4 pounds since the mary I treated myself to some very bad food, even ate a few sliders.

I might be running a 10K on the 17th. Derby eve the wife and I were invited to the Mint Jubilee a big celebrity fund raising event. I met Joe Piscapo they had a bunch of D list type actors. I was face down in the gutter by the end of the night it was a blast.

I hope everyone is doing great and training hard. I thinking a fall mary they have one here called the Louisville Marathon and its flat, or I might do something out of town.

Have a great weekend!

Tim

P.S.

Lexy please tell me its warming up

Awesome Tim, you deserve those 4 lbs.  Just don't let it turn into 40!!   Great to see you planning for your next one.  That's the way to lifetime fitness!!

I've been riding like a fiend lately, 59 miles today.  Feels good.  I think I might run a 5K tomorrow for fun and see if I'm any better than December.

Hope you all are having a great weekend!!

Group-

I need some opinions on my race schedule. My A race is Steelhead 70.3 on August 2nd. The LTF olympic tri in Minneapolis is July 12th. My sister lives up in Minneapolis, and I did the race last year and loved it. July 12th is three weeks out from Steelhead, so I wonder if it makes sense to do this race so close to my A race. I'm thinking that this could be used as a solid brick/race simulation, although I plan on doing a 55-60 mile bike /60 min run race simulation brick the week before that.

Bottom line- Think it's ok to do it? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Do it, just make sure you approach it as a training day, not a all out best effort day. Focus on your transitions, esp bike to run. The 60/60 brick the week before the Oly won't hurt you, just take it easy Monday.

I'm with VeganMan.  I'm no expert, but from everything I've read on the boards it seems like it would be all right if you treat it as a training day.  Go out, have fun with it, push a little...and then start your taper a week later or so.

Hey gang, I am somewhat alive and well. Did the 25k on Sat. (2:12:xx, 15 min slower than my slowest time ever Frown) but ran it at a very leisurely pace seeing my training has been crap for the last month.

I woke up on Sunday and knew something was terribly wrong. I looked in the mirror and the left side of my face was all puffy and swollen. I couldn't talk right or barely use it to eat. I went to the med center and I have a full blown viral sinus infection.

More and more drugs.... Yell

Today I am finally feeling a bit better so I will get in a short workout but this crap is driving me crazy. I have been down since mid to late April.

I will get caught up on here later today but wanted to let you all know I am still alive.

Well we must be on the right track, my face is not swollen much at all and today I feel almost normal again.

So who is racing this weekend???

I am doing a small local 5k (probably pushing my son) tomorrow. Should be a good kick in the a@@ for motivation as I know it won't go well for me and this being the 5th year of the race I have two wins, one second and a fourth overall. This year a top ten would be great.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

I am in a race, but I won't call it racing. 1/2 mary is part of my 2hr run/50min bike brick on Sunday. This follows my 3.5hr ride/50min bike on Saturday....last big volume weekend before IMKS!!

Hey everyone-

I hit a PR on Sunday and am pumped! Thanks to everyone for their support.

Now I'm into a 4 week maintenance mode as I'm headed to Panama City, Florida for the weekend with one of my best buddy's from college. Then I'm going to hit the workouts hard for another 10 days before a week-long cruise to the Carribbean. I know, rough times. Either way, i'm going to enjoy my trips and try to get some runs/stationary rides in. I'm going to use the trip to Florida as a 5 day recovery, and the cruise as a full recovery week. It might end up helping me in the end.

Way to go Chris

See folks I told you it was going to be a great year. Chris hits a PR, Tim smashed his mary, now if only I would heed my own advice and get completely healthy and get consistent again.

Great Job Chris, enjoy the vacations Cool

I had to skip the 10K this past Saturday I thought my sons soccer clinic was over, we have two more Saturdays. I did get my 8 meter lap pool open and the heat on, so I can start on my swimming. I need to buy a tether so I can swim in place. The kids finish up school this week so the fun fun fun starts.

Thanks Chris,

Actually I commented to my wife last night that I am finally starting to  feel like myself again. I have been on drugs (and will be for 10 more days) for about 5 weeks now. For the first 4, I was always feeling lathargic but now am starting to get my endurance back.

4 straight days of working out again and tomorrow I will get outside for my first "long" ride of the year. I am planning on just going and see what happens. 3,4,5 hours who knows. I will let my body tell me how long and fast I should be going.

Train well peeps!

Hey all,

I've still been keeping an eye on what everyone's been up to, I've just been so busy with life in general... it's madness. My training went away for about a week, but it seems to be back now!

I have my first triathlon ever next weekend (the 31st...) and I'm totally freaking out!! I feel like I'm not ready and that I'm going to be last (and i know that's not the point, but I really don't want to be last...)... It's a seven hour drive to the tri as well, worried about forgetting something important. Anyone want to have a look over my logs and tell me if I'm crazy to do this race? Should i Have waited a few weeks? lol

ah... needed to vent a little!

Hope everyone is feeling better, keepin' on with their training and that life is good in general :-)

Hey Lexy good to see you back again. Took a peek at your logs. Now what distance is the tri, a sprint?

If so I would say you'll be fine. And with you running 9:15 min miles in training you have no worries about being even close to last.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
