Congratulations Kelly! It sounds like it was a very hard race for you. You have had such a hard year for injury, but your resilience is incredible!! Now take some time to REST!!!!

Did you sign up for IMFL 2013?

Signed up for IMFL 2013 on Friday.  I like fast courses.  I really want a sub-11.

In addition to Kelly, I was tracking 6 others from the Atlanta area.  All girls that I have either swam or biked with.  Their times were all pretty fast, faster than I would have expected.  Most had under 6 hour bikes, which surprised me.  Is it that much faster being flat?  I thought the wind was usually brutal.

One of the girls swim time was 58 minutes - she apparently swam in the olympics.  Another girl who trains with the guys in my neighborhood qualified for Kona, it was her first IM.  She's crazy fast though so not surprised at all.

Kelly - saw your knees on facebook.  Ouch!  Don't know how you kept spinning your legs, and then ran 26 miles.  Amazing, you're determined.

Its a fast bike.  Wind is an issue but even with the wind its still fast.

Morning everyone.

Heading home this morning and then two weeks of complete rest.  Knees and left ankle are still pretty sore.  Hoping everything heals up over the next two weeks.

Morning guys.  Long day yesterday.  Pretty much a day of overcoming obstacles.  Started out ok for the first part of the swim and then I found myself in a pack of swimmers.  I don't think I have ever been so beat up in the water before.  I can't tell you the number of times I was punched in the back of the head.  So out of the water around 40 minutes which is slow even for me.  Then 3 miles into the bike I have a rear flat.  The rest of the ride is beautiful.  Half a mile into the run I catch a weird cramp in my quad.  So I trudge through that for a half a mile or so and a lady runs by me and says "Looks like you could you some salt."  Well it just so happens I have some in my pocket.  Pretty dumb on my part to not think of it.  So I get it back to 8:30 miles and I'm starting to feel better and try to push it.  Well right at the end of the first loop I go over one of the road humps, speed breaks, in the resort and put my foot down in one of the parts the concrete is missing and my knee buckles, and I'm back to hobbling along.  To make a long story shorter my run was craptastic.  ended up at 5:36:12 which is still a 30 minute PR but I easily left 20 -30 minutes on the run.  So I'm torn about how I feel.

Oh and my Garmin was spotty all day.  Sometimes it turned off on its' own, sometimes it gave me distance but no pace, sometimes pace but no distance or time elapsed.  Like I said just obstacles to overcome.

X2 - you still had an awesome time.  Don't dwell on what it could have been, that's never good.  Just learn from whatever you can and move on.  Nice job, 30 minute PR is a lot!

Congratulations, Scott!  You did very well, especially considering all you faced yesterday.  Be proud and not torn.  Enjoy the next couple weeks with your family, and then it's time to prepare for a full IM!!!  Woohoo!

Thanks.  I think I'm down for at least a week then some general fitness type stuff and then after Thanksgiving we'll start to jump headlong into training again.  Would it surprise you that the half in Galveston was first and foremost on my mind this morning when I woke up this morning?

I did not sign up for IMFL and I am happy with that decision. Plus, it would have cost me the foundation price since it filled right at noon! I will be prepared to pay that next year if that is what I decide to do. I am signed up for Muncie 70.3 and am so excited because this course suits me really well (except the possibly hot run). In the end I just decided that I didn't fell I could be ready enough for IMFL and didn't want 12 months of stress and worry and a race worrying about cutoffs! Muncie is easily doable for me (I have done the 1/2 aquabike there) and I plan on working hard on my bike and run for the next several months.

The iron distance races will always be around.  Sounds like Muncie is a good match for you this year!

My legs kind of work today.  I'm not walking like an extra from The Walking Dead so that's a bonus.

I had the same swim as you did on one race this year. Great job overcoming all of your challenges. I don't see a reason to be torn. That's a great effort.

90% sure a triathlon bike isn't in the cards for me this year.  May not be able to travel to IMMT either.
