Afters yesterdays visit to the orthopaedic, my xmas wish list changed from a powertap (wasn't going to happen anyway) to an MRI & edpidural injection in my lower back again.
She also told me to do pilates. What's the difference between yoga & pilates? I have lots of yoga DVD's, is it similar?
What's the plan with the 50K?
Oh the 50k is still on! She's not making me stop running, as it's not making anything worse. (Probably just not allowing it to get better.) I've been stretching after every run and it has been helping.
I actually feel much better than I did when I first saw her about 7 weeks ago. I was having stabbing pain/muscle cramping in my butt cheek, which is no fun. That's gone away and I'm back to the usual hamsting/sciatic pain I've had for a long time.
She still thinks I could benefit from a cortisone shot because in her words "I'm just being stoic" which I had to admit is pretty accurate. I tolerate the pain and it's just become part of my normal day, but she thinks I could be a whole lot better.
I'm kind of mixed, she said it was up to me, I could continue with stretching/PT and add in pilates. But when she moved my legs around and I cringed she recommended getting the MRI and going from there. At least that will show if there's something going on in my back, and how bad it is. Maybe it'll be no big deal and no injection will be needed.
I think you need to get the MRI and do some SERIOUS rest post-50K in order to be in good condition to train for Lake Tahoe. With where you're having pain, I think biking would be very uncomfortable right now (and that's something you want to fix before Tahoe).
