Afters yesterdays visit to the orthopaedic, my xmas wish list changed from a powertap (wasn't going to happen anyway) to an MRI & edpidural injection in my lower back again. Cry

She also told me to do pilates.  What's the difference between yoga & pilates?  I have lots of yoga DVD's, is it similar?

What's the plan with the 50K?

Oh the 50k is still on!  She's not making me stop running, as it's not making anything worse.  (Probably just not allowing it to get better.)  I've been stretching after every run and it has been helping.

I actually feel much better than I did when I first saw her about 7 weeks ago.  I was having stabbing pain/muscle cramping in my butt cheek, which is no fun.  That's gone away and I'm back to the usual hamsting/sciatic pain I've had for a long time.

She still thinks I could benefit from a cortisone shot because in her words "I'm just being stoic" which I had to admit is pretty accurate.  I tolerate the pain and it's just become part of my normal day, but she thinks I could be a whole lot better.

I'm kind of mixed, she said it was up to me, I could continue with stretching/PT and add in pilates.  But when she moved my legs around and I cringed she recommended getting the MRI and going from there.  At least that will show if there's something going on in my back, and how bad it is.  Maybe it'll be no big deal and no injection will be needed.

Good on being able to do the 50K!

I think you need to get the MRI and do some SERIOUS rest post-50K in order to be in good condition to train for Lake Tahoe.  With where you're having pain, I think biking would be very uncomfortable right now (and that's something you want to fix before Tahoe).

kidtri33 - 2012-11-13 10:49 AM Everyone complains how loud the magnetic one is ha! How about you?

Love my Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. Very quiet and highly recommended.

I have looked at that one. Especially since it works with trainer road. It is the cheaper route than a powertap

kaburns1214 - 2012-11-13 7:59 AMHere's a question for everyone -- with the holiday season fast approaching -- what's on your triathlon holiday wish list?
New saddle, wheels, tires, wetsuit, helmet, cold weather running gear. Out of all of that I will probably get the saddle and tires I would also love and upgraded quieter trainer. Everyone complains how loud the magnetic one is ha! How about you?

I have a mag trainer too, and it's LOUD.  lol  Thankfully I'm in the basement so no one can hear me in the early morning.

I am too but until I finish the basement(getting close)with some insulation it resonates through the air conditioning vents ha!

I am single and not dating anyone currently, so my wish list is really for me to buy for myself ....

- a 2 bottle gorilla cage for the back of my bike seat so bottles don't pop out

- CT upgrade so I can actually do other parts of a course

Get the MRI and figure out what exactly is going on.  My friend Tammy went to tons of doctors this year for months, only to find out finally after the MRI she had a torn hamstring (she did IMWI, but not without significant pain).

I have had the epidurals in the back, and then ultimately back surgery from a severely herniated disc.  Epidurals work for some and last, they didn't for me.

Karen- sorry you are having issues. I think getting the MRI is a good next step to gather more information! I hope you are feeling more comfortable soon!

Does anyone here have quad sleeves or full compression tights for recovery?  Do you find that they help?  How often do you wear them and when do you wear them?

I have 2XU tights that are supposed to be active and recovery.  Great for active, not so much for recovery.  I know people that swear by Zoot RX tights for recovery.  They wear them after races or really long workouts.  Generally sleep in them too which makes sense since the best time to increase blood flow to the area is during REM cycles.

Oh and took a yoga class today.  Nothing intense.  Just going crazy doing nothing and I can't deal with rush hour anymore so I had to get to the gym.

7 days of antibiotics on the horizon.  She hasn't been running a fever much over 100 for the last few days and I really thought I had it licked yesterday as I had it back to 98.6 at noon, but this morning she was back at 100.  Guess she also got the rash this morning that makes the scarlet fever named as such.  Fun times as it's my day at the office and the pregnant one is at home.
