Scott - Glad to hear you are healing.

Samy - Awesome job on your first Olympic!

Took yesterday off for Veterans Day.  Slept in, enjoyed the day off with my wife and youngest.  My mom is in town too so it was a nice day to take it easy.

This morning back on the treadmill for 50 minutes.  Still getting a bit of soreness in the left leg.  Need to start doing my stretches and strength exercises and assess whether its continuing to heal.  I think the treadmill may be the best running surface for most of runs for the time being (much less ompact than the sidewalk).

Regarding Erensto's proposition - what an amazing idea.  I am definitely interested but have to get complete buy-in from my Admiral.  My youngest would be 4 in Feb of 2014 so much easier to handle for the bulk of the training season.  gabe and Ernesto - how have you approached the training demands with your leading ladies?

Samy, congrats on finishing your first Oly tri and also for keeping the triathlon torch lit for many more to come!

Ernesto, I like your proposition so I'm totally in for IM AZ 2014 (btw have you seen the Norseman tri? that has to go into the must do list!)

Tentative goals for 2013:

- B/n Jan and May will do several local 1/2 marathons and Oly tris.

- In the summer I'm evaluating doing either the San Francisco Marathon or the Death Ride (129 mile bike ride w/ 15,000 ft of climbing b/w Lake Tahoe and Nevada which I did once in 1997).

- I also signed up for the 2013 Kona IM Lottery (wishful thinking, but you never know Smile)

- Then for Nov. I still have to decide if I'm doing the 2013 NY Marathon or Ironman Cozumel

Today a 65 min drainer workout

I was already targeting IMAZ 2014 for my first IM and this may have just cinched the deal. I have friends in Scotsdale and may plan on volunteering in 2013.Samy - Great job on the Oly. Other than some tough conditions, what did you think about the distance? It is a big jump in time from a sprint, but I found that distance much more enjoyable than a sprint. FWIW, after my first Oly, my next race was a HIM. Getting the itch?

Joe, I really like the distance. It feels more like a real endurance race than a sprint, and its not over so quickly. It takes a little bit more strategy to make sure you have enought left in the tank for the run. Planning to mix olys and sprints in 2013, but I can see Olys being my main races for the near future. Regarding the HIM, I think I will wait until 2014 for two reasons. I want to feel comfortable (or as comfortable as one gets in tris) with the oly distance before I jump up (the end of my run was unplanned walk/run type deal); and my 2 and 4 year olds also are a big limiting factor.

Having said that, I really like the venue (easy lake swim, flat bike, part of the run is through a Zoo, so you get to see animals), and they also have a HIM distance...so never say never. If my Oly prowess increases significantly, and I end up doing the HIM Nov 2013, then IMAZ could be in store for 2014. But for now is HIM in 2014 and IM in 2015...

Anybody have any ideas why my Garmin would stop transferring data to my training log?  The Garmin communicator says it's working fine. I can upload to Garmin Connect just fine.  The training log says that the data is transferring but then says that there are no workouts found for today's date and no data shows up in the log. I have reloaded the Garmin Communicator program with no luck.  I have tried turning the device off and on again with no results. I can see the data still on the device in the history.  Been doing this now for a week.  So frustrating.Undecided

I had a similiar problem with my Timex when I bought a new computer. I spend hours on the phone and on line with training peaks and they decided it was my watch. Timex said the software. I think it is windows 7 or my anti-virus program, because it works fine with my old computer. I get what you are saying.

I'm jealous - It was 30 degrees here this morning, high of 40 today.  I'm still not completely in the cold weather running frame of mind.  Did pick up some additional cold weather gear at Costco, but not looking forward to the long runs where my hrdration freezes and my gels become chews.

Hey E, I was able to get into the Vineman 70.3 2013 just now so thanks for your advice on that one (had to pull some strings, but it worked Laughing). And since I need to be in Brussels in April for business, I will run the Antwerp Marathon on April 21.

So here is my updated list of key races for 2013:

- B/n Jan and March will do several local 1/2 marathons and Oly tris.

- April 21: Antwerp Marathon in Belgium

- July 14: Vineman 70.3 in N.California

- August: Ironmaya 70.3 in Guatemala

- Nov. Full Ironman Cozumel

Hey Gabe, you're doing a marathon for my 47th birthday. That looks like a great schedule.

Happy birthday Mark

Mitch- I have not had the desire to run outside in the cold this year either. I am still protesting the end of Summer. I hope that spending the weekend outside in my blind helps me to acknowledge reality. I have a 5 k a week from Saturday, then I will be forced to run outside. I have to start soon I have the Witchy Wolf 15 mile trail run in a couple of months, so I am going to have to toughen up.

Got out today for my last real run before AZ and some time on the trainer this morning, before taking my bike apart and packing it up for the airplane.  Everything feels good, I've been trying to stick to the idea of shorter, yet still high intensity workouts during the taper.
