Good luck Kristina!  I'm sure you will more than meet your goal!  To finish an Oly is my goal for next year...

I have reserved a wetsuit for rental.  It's a Blue Seventy.  In the meantime I will look to buy a wetsuit but at least I don't have to buy something that doesn't work for me.  Thanks everyone for your input!

Wow I think that is 3 of us now with races in just 2 weeks! Good luck Kristina you will do great !

Tracy, I just bought a wetsuit and I really like the fit ,it is a Neo Sport . It is roomy in the torso where us girls need it to be and the fit is good and snug where it should be also. It is slightly shorter in the legs which works fine for me I am not all that tall lol. The price was good, just under $180.  If you can try a few on and see how you like the fit first its always a good idea .  Good luck shopping and have fun with it !

Went on a 30mil ride with my Husband, Shawn, kids were with their Grandma & Grandpa! It was fun!! He is a awsome climber. He has these powerful chicken legs (all muscle). I am huffing and puffing going up these hills. While he just glides up hill and then beats me down them, too. I am really fast on the flats & I decided not to smoke him since he hasn't riden in awhile.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

The crank is not a compact, it's a 53/39. What I did is switch my rear cassette from 11-23 to 12-27. I've only had two short 1hr rides on it so far. Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow and I'll have a chance to test it out on a good long ride.

Thanks for the correction Caius. When I had my bicycle fit done, the guy had said to consider a compact crank, but at this point I don't think I need one.

Is it the fact that the actual gearing is odd for you that you don't like it, or is there more to it?

Hope everyone had a good weekend, I missed doing anything on Sat as I'm still not feeling too great, but didn't want to blow the whole weekend so I rode today. Legs fely ok, but the rest of the body wasn't cooperating too well.

I don't know. It's hard to pin down what it is about the 12-27 cassette. Technically it should be similar to the old 11-23 on the bottom end but it just doesn't feel the same. The best I can do to describe it is that it just doesn't feel as tight and crisp. Maybe it's me and how I adjusted the derailleurs. I'm going to take the bike in and get it tuned up by the pros so maybe that will make it better.

What I can say though is that after 170km yesterday, my legs felt a lot fresher than in the past after a similar distance. So, I think it will work out just fine for IMLP.

I hope you feel better soon. It sucks being sick in the summer.

Nice ride yesterday, Caius!!!

Hey Tracey! - Think of your races in "A", "B" and "C" priorities.  Your "A" race(s) (1 or 2 a year) are the one(s) you want to do your best in.  So the tri you signed up for in a week or two, think of it as a "B" (traininig) race or a "C" (fun) race.  You'd be amazed at how well you can do in a "C" race because there is no pressure to excel!

Thanks! And, very excellent point about race priorities and not having any pressure.

When I started participating in triathlons, every race was an A race  I wanted to get as many in as possible because they were so much fun, but yes, there was some stress to keep doing better and especially to make sure I got all my workouts in. And then one day it sort of hit me that you know, I'm doing this for fun. I mean, sure, I want to improve but if I'm going to miss a workout I'm not going to feel bad about it. It's not like I'm ever going to be a pro and you know, just by participating in the sport (even if I come in last place) I'm better off for it. Once this light went off, I started to really relax and enjoy the sport even more.

Hi Everyone!

I'm checking back in after a week of fun in the sun. I did manage to get a few runs in while on vacation, but unfortunately not enough to counterbalance the amount of food I consumed!

It looks like everyone has been doing some great training and racing! I got a 30 mile bike in on sunday and a morning swim in today. Feels good to be getting back in the groove.

Take care!

Thanks for the advice Terry!  I am considering the July 13 race a 'C' race for me.  Although it will be hard not to 'go for it'!  I am looking forward to the lake swim!  My first, other than swimming in lakes just for fun.

Just thought I would check in with everyone since we all seem to have disappeared a little bit. I'm one week into this stupid cold and am still congested. I'm hoping it is on the mend, but it doesn't want to disappear.

Hope training is going well for everyone. Terry - good luck in your race this weekend. I don't think anyone else is racing, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Indeed. I think it's been a quiet week because on Tuesday we Cannucks celebrated Canada Day and tomorrow our Yank friends are celebrating 4th of July. I'm guessing a lot of people are either on vacation this week.

I'm in taper mode right now getting ready for my big day; less than 3 weeks to go. I'm feeling a bit run down though. Work is absolutely insane and I'm just feeling tired and on the verge of getting a cold. I sure hope that is not the case.

Squish and Caius - I hope you both start feeling better soon!

Terry - Good luck and have fun in the Xterra this weekend!

My 8k that was scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until September due to flooding. This weekend I'm planning to try and get a long run and long bike in, fire up the BBQ, and enjoy the start of the Tour De France.

Take care everyone!

NBC will probably have their Olympic trials coverage (running and swimming) again this weekend.  And if you get the USA network, you can probably watch something every day of the week.   We watched the trials last week in High definition and it was great!

I've had a nice short week at work this week due to Canada Day, and tomorrow we get the day off for the Calgary Stampede parade!

I like the new photo, Timmeh!

Geez this competing on holiday weekends is getting old.  Had a sprint on Memorial day and now XTERRA on Sunday.  Have to watch the food intake all weekend and can't enjoy some beverages either.  Sunday afternoon when I get home I'll knock back a few for sure.

Tim, love the new avatar!

Next week will be fun... An entire week off from working out!  No 6AM swims!  It is a rest week after an "A" race.  Good for the body.  Good for the mind to keep from burning out.  Then I'll start the build for the next "A" race, which is an Oly in mid-Sept.

Caius, do you take a week off after an "A" race such as an IM?

After IMLP I certainly will take a week off. Otherwise, in the past I would take 1-2 days off. By then, I'd start to feel all rested and I'd get back in there with some light workouts like an easy spin on bike or an easy swim.

For sure I'll be doing light swimming in the neighborhood pool, a lot of diving, light biking in the neighborhood for fun.  There is backyard badmitton, lacrosse and football too.

We're going to Montana too but not until August.  We'll be sticking to the northern part (Glacier Park) - those gas prices don't make us want to drive very far!  Have a fun weekend!

I've been to Glacier twice. Both times someone was eaten by a bear! I now have retired from going to Glacier!!!

Thanks for all of the nice comments on the new avatar. It's a pic of me dragging myself around the Indianapolis motor speedway.

Terry, I am anxiously awaiting a race report!

Do you know if anyone swims in Lake Macdonald?  With my new wetsuit, I want to swim everywhere!  (Hopefully I can outswim a bear!!)

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I missed my OWS this weekend, just couldn't fit it in, but did get a good ride in and then a long run on Sunday (new PB at 14km).

I also picked up a Profile aero water bottle during the week, and while it doesn't quite fit my clip on bars the way it should, I was pretty happy with it on Saturday. I've lost my bike for the next few days as I had to take it in for a rear derailleur adjustment (skipping gears and noisy). I wish I was more mechanically inclined, but i couldn't get it to sync smoothly- but I may not have it back till Thursday!!! Hopefully they'll get it done sooner.

I also dropped some money on a pair of Continental GP4000 tires (wish I could get the same price as our Southern neighbours) - hope they pay off on race day in a couple of weeks.

Gloria- How was Montana?

I had a busy weekend. On the 4th, I ran my first 10K. I actually ran the whole way too! I was also under 1hour with an speed of 9:30min/mi!!! Right after I went to a family reunion, then to the end of a Birthday party where I watch fireworks.
I then worked this weekend but I was able to go home early both day and relax!!

I swam long course on Thursday! I have been watching the Swimming Olympic trials which has been exciting. They are breaking world records left & right. Maybe I do need a wet suit?

I will be taking it easy this week in preperation of my Olympic Tri!! I can't wait!!

Last year, the July 4th weekend XTERRA was my first triathlon.  I struggled/limped thru the 1/2 mile open water swim, did the 12 mile mtn bike, and cramped badly (leg cramps) at the end of the ride and I couldn't do the run.  DNF.

I swore in I'd never do anything that stupid again.  In Sept. of last year, a nagging voice in my head asked me, "Are you going to let that beat you?"  So I did an sprint, off-road tri in Oct. and did well.  In Feb, I started the 20 week BT 2x Oly, did a sprint this past Memorial Day and did well.

This year, at XTERRA redeaux, same thing happend.  The "washing machine" start of the open water swim caused me to lose my composure.  Elbows, ankles in my face, one guy swam up onto my back.  I started in the back, off to the right, out of the way and still got clobbered.  I never could "get my breath" nor slow down my heart rate.  Hung onto a jet ski a few times, nothing worked.  I have swam almost two miles nonstop in a pool.

Swim time was 26 minutes at XTERRA.  At the end of the mtn bike, I was cramping and called it a day.  I knew I couldn't run.

No more XTERRAs for me.  I have two mtn bike races left this year and will probably not mtn bike race next year due to the constant battle with leg cramps.  I'll stick with sprint tris with pool swims for now.  There is one sprint in Sept with an open-water swim that is only 400 meters that I'll do.

Am pretty disgusted right now.  But reality tells me I'm not cut out for XTERRA.  I'll take this week off from working out.  There is a sprint on the 26th of this month that I'm (and our 11 year old) registered for.  I'll bag the Olys for now and just do sprints; there are four sprints in the area that I can do on an annual basis.

Terry - don't be too disgusted!  Xterra might be in your future, but maybe a few years away.  All of this has happened for a reason and you will be able to draw on it somewhere down the road, whether it be in an Oly, a HIM or an Xterra.

Enjoy your week off.  Your body will thank you and you'll return stronger than ever!!
