Let us know how it goes, I have been looking at the Desoto 2 piece suits, mainly because I am short and stumpy, so you can choose different size top and bottoms.

I know what you mean about the short and dumpy. When I was looking at renting a suit they suggested a one piece large OR medium SOLID. Edited by Redknight 2008-06-18 9:04 AM |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Okay, I am scheduled to race my first OWS next week. It looks like the water temperature will be too high for wetsuits. (DAMN!!) I also hear that the bottom is full of hydrilla and there will be a 250m run from the water to T1. I was thinking about wearing water booties (i.e. beach shoes) to save myself from having to feel too much of the plant slime as I wade out, and then protect my feet during the run to the transition. Is this cool? Or will I look like a total tool with booties on? Personally I am leaning towards,"I don't care how I look, I don't want crap touching my feet" but I would like your guys's (sp?) opinion. As I said, I have never done an OWS and am very nervous/excited about it. |

Master 1952 Guelph, Ontario | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Hey Tracey. You only feel the slime for the first little bit as you're getting in and out of the water. Normally you wouldn't feel much of anything becuase weeds don't normally grow close to the beach and by the time you get to where the weeds are growing you are swimming and the weeds are below you. If the lake is that bad and you don't like icky then who cares what you look like go for the booties. Me, I'm a big tough guy and wouldn't wear the booties! ( i don't like icky though ) I think you will like OWS. I much prefer it to the pool even without the lines on the bottom. It is not very hard to sight when you're swimming. Just a quick glance every little while will keep you on track. I find that doing bilateral breathing keeps me running pretty straight. That's quite the run to transition. I think on my race this weekend I have a fair run in and out of transition also. My area for transition is set way at the back and I have to run through the rest of the area to get in and out on both the run and bike. Not the 250 you have though. Good luck Tracey. I don't think you will have any trouble with the water either way you go. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL well that stinks! But thanks for the warning! Guess I'll have to HTFU!!! Pain I can handle, slimy stuff touching my feet, eeeeeeewwwwwww!!!!! (It's not obvious I grew up swimming in pools or anything is it )
now that I think about it more, I think that is a dumb rule. How much of an advantage can booties really give, if anything they would create drag. Plus, how many broken bottles etc. are at the bottom of rivers. But I'm okay, rant is over. I'll find my happy place again. Edited by tahrens 2008-06-18 12:42 PM |

Member 31 | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I haven't been posting much lately... But as an update, I ran a 1/2 marathon Saturday that went pretty well. I had a better time than the same race last year. Also, I just go my first road bike! Now I see why people were speeding past me in the triathlon while I was on my mountain bike... Hope you all are doing well! |

We used to go up into the mtns to water ski. I have been through them many times. One of the best times was riding from Calgary to Vancouver on a motorcycle. |

I think I am going to enter a half next Feb with my wife since she is setting that as a goal to get back in shape after the baby is born (which is ANY day now by the way..... stay tuned). Also, that is exciting about the new bike. I purchased my first road bike in April and I am already itching for an upgrade (don't tell my wife)..
