Veteran 561 Arden Hills, MN | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Cornboy - 2010-05-18 12:00 PM I'm with DB - great ride on Sunday - but with my last long run, I've rekindled an old calf injury. Hopefully only one week of no running. I'm a bit worried given the Apple duathlon in 10 days, and Liberty half IM on June 12th. Nice to see the weather changing and thanks to Birkie for the inspirational/instructional video. If you want a name of a good chiropractor to help with your calf shoot me a PM. He does Graston and is one of only 2 or 3 folks in MN with an ARP machine which does wonders in helping reduce inflamation and promote healing. It would be a bit of a drive for you (he's in Roseville) but might be worth it if the injury lingers. He's worked wonders on both my wife and I. He's a former D1 athlete (played hockey at SCSU) and focuses on sports related injuries. |

Regular 54 Lemont, | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread How is everyone's training going? Well, after a 2 week hiatus from the pool (one week out of town for work and one week of a raging sinus infection) and an extremely poor effort in April, I've recommitted to the swim. I went to the pool Monday night with the intention of swimming until the gym closed. I was able to focus and get 4250 yards in in just over 1:20. I'm really good about not missing any bike or run workouts but the swim is just so time consuming with the whole drive to the gym, wait for the water aerobics ladies to clear out, swim, shower, drive home thing. My 1:20 swim took me away from home for over two hours. Biking or running takes minimal prep so it is so much easier to fit them in! |

Extreme Veteran 427 St. Louis, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Well, I figured it is time to get off my a$$ and begin thinking about training for this thing...... my swimming right now is O.K.....not much to worry about already have a 1.2+ OWS under the belt Biking.....really only had two long rides thus far......I think 75 is tops....but that included four climbs in excess of 15% and some of the hills used for the KOM during the Tour of Missouri bike race Running....started the Winter in really bad form....but have ramped up nicely to where last weekend I ran a nice comfortable (very HILLY) 12 mile trail run at IMHR....felt strong at the end so that is a good indication... It will all get exposed however this weekend as I head off to OH for another go at TTT.....nothing like a LONG, HILLY series of races to kick start my first real build of my IMMoo session, eh?? See you all way too soon! Paul |

Master 1376 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I'm fighting through a hip injury that is keeping me from doing any substantial running. My swim and bike are just where I want them to be. I had a 4700 yard swim today and was pleased with it. I'm slowly building back up my running both distance wise and intensity. |

Extreme Veteran 476 WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Looks like we're all putting in some heavy times and distance - Great job all! Let's keep it up. On the other hand - let's take care of ourselves. Seems like many of us are dealing with overuse injuries. I have some nagging knee problems that I cannot figure out, but I will persevere. |

Master 1222 Lafayette, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I have missed 4 days this week due to new job training with one of our managers who started early and finished late. I will chauk it up as a rest week to heal anything that may be lurking beneath the surface and get back at it tomorrow and this weekend! |

The RD is my masters swim coach, so I'll see what's up with registration. Sounds like the same details as last year from what I've heard. One note: Lake Monona had it's first algae bloom warning today. Darn warm weather and runoff. |

Great...I remember last year when I volunteered the smell was strong enough the I noticed it driving along John Nolen Drive! |

Extreme Veteran 476 WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread crea0029 - 2010-05-25 7:55 PM Sounds wonderful... gotta love algae blooms! Does anyone know of a good swimming lake in the Madison area that doesn't have algae problems... especially closer to race day? Good question. Generally, closer to event day the lakes won't have algae blooms due to the drier weather and "cooler" days around that time. I know I will be swimming in them throughout the summer and quickly showering afterwards. Here is a good bookmark: Madison Beaches and Water Quality: Scroll down to view pages and click on each beach for more info. BB Clarke is the closest monitored beach to Law Park (where the IM swim starts). This page includes the 2009 Ironman Water Quality/Temp (click the Excel file link on the right side of the page). There is also a sign up for beach updates lower on the right side. Lake Kegonsa and Waubesa don't have many problems, but not too many folks do long swims in there either (boaters may not be used to you so they won't be looking out for you). The closest I can think of might be the farthest lake at Gov Dodge State Park (saw a USAT Team Member training there) or Devil's Lake; both are at least 40 miles away. |

Here's the event and registration link: 2010 Madison Open Water Swim (MOWS) There are a couple of PDFs to be added for hotels and safety info, but other than that, you are able to register. The event is $30 and a one-time event USMS fee is $18. The field is limited to 500 swimmers - get in soon. |

Can you swim even when the lake is not officially open ie lifeguards and the building there? |

Champion 4835 Eat Cheese or Die | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I've been avoiding this thread because I've been avoiding thinking about IM. I sprained my ankle last fall. I didn't run for a couple months because as I was about healed from the sprain I underwent sinus surgery and wasn't allowed to do anything active for 5-6 weeks. Once I started running a bit more (as in not much) my ankle started bothering me. It would start being painful after 20-25 minutes and as I ran more, it would start hurting earlier in the run. I got it checked out by a PT/Tri Club buddy and she suggested seeing an Ortho, and also said I really shouldn't run on it till he sees me. Unfortunately I can't see him till the day before High Cliff 1/2 IM in June so I'm either walking the run there or DNFing after the swim and bike. I can walk without pain, as well as ride and swim. Hoping for a good outcome from my appointment with him in June. Worse case is I make sure I can swim and bike fast enough that I have enough time to walk the marathon. |
