Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi everyone. Sorry I have been absent and thanks for the inspires. It's been an interesting couple of weeks. Good news first - my back is doing much better. Back to sports doctor next week. Not so great news. Two weeks ago I blacked out on subway - that is I lost vision, not consciousness - for 15 mins. All we know at this point is that my pre-existing condition of mitral valve prolapse with reguritation has worsened with my aortic valve now also reguritating. I see a cardiologist in 2 weeks. Won't know if this is what caused the blackout or if it is something electrical in the heart. Cardiologist will decide if I need the valves replaced or repaired (they tend to repair in younger patients) or if they will leave it for now. He will also work out what caused the blackout (I hope). It's not the season I had hoped for. I turn 40 this year and was intending to give it my all. At this point I'm not allowed to train until the 27th when I see the Cardiologist. I'm still going away with my triathlon club on the 29th becasue it's important that I keep the sport in my blood. Just not sure how much training I can do with them. So that's my news. I'll take the next couple of days to read back all your posts. Have a great weekend. Fi |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OK I have my first HIM (Kinetic) tomorrow at Lake Anna State Park. Bad news is I hurt my back Wednesday in a strength workout doing plyometerics. I should never have been doing that so close to the race. Oh well live and learn. I went to a chiropractor this morning and its better, but not good as new by any means. I've decide to race and see what my back lets me do. I'm carrying some meds, back cream and back patches to use if needed. I plan to take it real easy on the bike to avoid a DNF. |

To say that was one of the worst experiences I have had on my bike would be an understatememt. Crosswind going out and headwind 50 miles coming back. Lost one of our riders to muscle cramps at 75 miles, lost the course at some point on the way back. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finished my Half IM but it wasn't pretty. My back locked up so I mostly walked with some running. Windy hot day/ Swim was pretty choppy. Ride was very windy in Va. Had a tree fall and block the road from the high winds. But when I got off the bike my back just locked up. Figured out that if I stuffed by shirt with ice and stopped and laid down and stretch every few miles I could keep going. I decided to finish even if I had to walk. Time was over 7 hours. I think my swim time was 32 minutes. Data later. Oh well that wasn't my A race. I learned a lot - no strength training doing stupid stuff before the race, need to work on back maintenance, keep up the sodium pills when its hot, and finally racing can humble you but we all need that sometimes. |

My shoulders felt awful from fighting the wind, my husband rubbed them with some biogel. Now I need to sit in an ice bath for the legs, they're just achey tired. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great job QZ and Jack, toughing it out will make you mentally stonger in the long run and you can use that expereince in later races. |
