LOL - nice one Kim

I always enjoyed them for some psychotic reason.

I hated the short/fast runs much more than 15+ miles

I like the 12-16 mile range. I'm looking forward to half marathon training.

Actually, I do get it. I usually look forward to long runs. I hate the first 2 miles of every run. So a 3 miler sucks for 2/3's of the duration. Not worth it. Plus, I'm just as slow on short runs as I am on long runs. That actually may be my goal for next year. Bring my 10k time down. Not sure.

I'm just a bit mentally fatigued right now.

I thought about working on speedwork this winter. I'm going to Carlsbad to have fun. I want to run well at the Unite HM.

Me too. Have you given much thought as to how much down time you're going to give yourself after MCM? Part of me wants to take a serious break and swim/strength train.  Another part doesn't want to lose the base I've built.

I am thinking I'm going to take 2 weeks with no running. I want to get some swimming in, and soccer will be over so I can spend more time with my son on the trainer. I don't want to lose my base either. A 2 week break will still give me just over 2 months to keep training for Carlsbad.

Just take 1 week off and then run 3 milers for the most part.

If you could get 5 3 milers a week in for 1 month that would be awesome.  Really that is only 40-45 minutes or so, so time wise it is not a big impact.  That is the great thing about running - quick torture!

Towards the end of the month you could make one a tempo run and do an interval workout with the other one.

Bill, I've read from numerous sources that the key to speed is running more frequently, not necessarily longer so your thoughts make sense.

5 days of 3 milers is totally doable for me. It's getting the 7, 8, 10 milers in during the week that can be tough. I have no problem doing a long run on the weekends.

wgraves7582 - 2010-10-06 8:50 AM I can tell you this much - 3 is the most I have run in 12+ months until last Thursday when I did 5 miles.  The only reason I hurt was because of the pace - outside of that my body was completely fine with the extra 2 miles

Bill, that is great that you did 5 and were ok. Maybe your hip is going to cooperate and let you get back to longer distances. Yes?
