Thought you folks that are unfamiliar with the area might like to see this video someone made of the new bike course:  http://vimeo.com/35802363

Is this official yet?

No, it's not official - but a local who has been attending the planing meetings, has stated on another website, that they are working on obtaining the permits... so it sounds like it is in the works.

Sweet video. I love the tecno Niel Diamond. Looks like it will be a crazy bike ride. Is the road itself safe? Looked to be some long cracks in it. I might be wrong. Just looked like that road needs more work that the old course did.

For those of you following Fink's plan... Congrats as the base building phase finishes up. Ready for the next 10? Looks like we're going longer, adding some speed, and adding another weekly swim workout. Trust in your plan!

Hi all. I plan on doing Cd'A in 2013 so I'm just lurking around here following you guys. I'll be a volunteer this year.

Thought you folks that are unfamiliar with the area might like to see this video someone made of the new bike course:  http://vimeo.com/35802363

Thank you very much for this, that was the best 1:07 I had on the trainer all winter. I plugged the laptop up to my wide screen and let it rip. Thanks Idaho

Hi there.  Just found this thread here!!!!  I am doing CdA this year!  First IM race.  Getting excited and gearing up.  Was following a great 36 week plan until unplanned neck surgery took place in December.  I am healing (although slowly) and back to training.  I have to ditch the plan I was using (I can't catch up!!) and switching to Fink's plan with a bit of modification since I am already up to a 50 mile ride and 10 mile run.  I am in the Seattle area and we have been blessed the past few days with some amazing weather just in time for a glorious ride around Lake Washington.  Don't think I have EVER been able to use the term "glorious ride" in February here!!!!

I see many people are still talking accomodations.  Has it been brought up that in Spokane the same weekend is the largest basketball tournement on the westcoast, Hoopfest?  Thousands of people flock to the area and Hotel rooms are few and far between so find a place now!!

Happy training everyone!!

That's right, except they claim it is the largest three-on-three tournament on the planet... and it really is huge.  They have 460 courts and with 30,000 players and their friends and families, downtown Spokane is packed and the majority of it is blocked off for the weekend.

Opt for Post Falls or Hayden if you can't find room in Cd'A and don't want to deal with the crowds in downtown Spokane.

Hoopfest is definitely a ginormous event; however, this year it's the weekend after IMCDA so that will take some pressure off for accomodations.  And speaking of...I have a friend who may have a room available in his home for cheap.  10 minutes from downtown, quiet neighborhood, very good guy.  Anyone interested let me know.

The bike course is finally updated on the website.  Looking at the video it looks like the last few miles down 95 could be windy.

Last summer I rode down HWY 95 and back. On a 50 mile ride that is flat I will average about 20 MPH. There was no hill on this course that had me slower than 15 MPH. They are much longer than the other course. I would think that it should be a much faster course. If there is a wind then it could be a slower course as you are in the open most of the time. It will be a side wind also.

If you ever get the computrainer map let me know please. I am also looking for it and will let you know if I find one. Guess the old one is a nice ride to have now

I'm guessing the Elevation gain on the bike is 2306 per lap rather than total.

Thanks for posting the video!  Cool

I think it will be faster but not a ton faster. The hills are long. I've ridden the upper part of 95 quite a few times and it still seems like a tough course. Those that are concerned about the course being safe to train on shouldn't be. I feel safer riding on the massive shoulder than I ever did riding out in Hayden.

It actually feels similar to Kona to me. The hills are long but not too steep. Other than that I've only done the old Cda course.

X2

Thanks for posting this up. Great video to watch while you train. Great music choices as well. Kudos to whoever put it together. I had a bit of hard time telling elevation/grade but it looks like your either going slightly up or down the entire time.

Any one have any suggestions for what to do when training with a cast on your hand?  I broke my thumb this week and have to be in a cast for the next 6-8 weeks.  I'm not concerned about running, but swimming and biking pose problems.  I'm in week 12 of a 30 week training plan and the workouts are really starting to ramp up.  I am hoping someone has some great advice out there.

mb1530, does your bike have tri bars or normal road bars?  I would think you could rest on the pads if tri, if not, I would take some foam, maybe memory foam, and wrap the tops of your bars and rest your forearms on that.

Swimming, would be tough, if you could seal your arm real well you could at least get in some kickboard workouts?

Subject: Mapping the course with GPS
I was just going to post this, figured I would keep it separate from my last post.  Saturday I am going to drive the entire bike course, if I used my Timex GPS watch, and maybe my phone GPS, to map it out, would it be of any use?

how are your handling skills on the bike with the cast?  maybe you should opt for some spinning classes where bike handling is not an issue.

Maybe you can tie some bands around your arms and do some out of water swim exercises. High volume.
