Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED TriAya - 2012-01-01 1:03 PM So the answer to the dog pee question is: It's a holdover from wild canines. If they have something to mark on (a tree, for example), they will lift their leg--the higher the better (indicating size). You'll see some pugs lift both hind legs to get REALLY far up (as far up as a pug can, anyway) to pee. Many canids also lift their legs to pee on a spot where other dogs have peed before. In the wild, at least with wolves, usually only the alpha dogs do this, although subordinates will if the alpha isn't there. Both males and females will lift their legs. It is much less common in female domesticated dogs. If there's no pertinent information to leave, the dog just needs to go, it may or may not lift its leg.
Totally agree and understand the above. In fact my mother's female dog marks all the time (although she doesn't lift her leg). I guess I was just surprised that anyone would think it was a taught trait and wondered what exactly one would do to teach it

Ann-Marie I think the human might have been anthropomorphizing ... kind of how little boys get taught to pee standing up after a while, or they want to be like (Dad, older brother, older friends, whatever). And for some weird reason, some men think peeing sitting down is unmasculine. I'm sure a dog could be taught to lift its leg to pee, though. A long time ago in endurance training, I thought: I can train dogs to pee and poop on command, surely I can train myself to do the same? This is incredibly convenient before long training sessions and races, I assure you. |

She gets really pissed when guys draft off her in races. She has perfected positioning her stream over her back tire to pee so the spray tends to hit the offender in the face. Gotta love a Trixie!! |

Trixie is a freak of nature, with incredibly sculpted calfs and abs. Her calfs are like huge apples so it doesn't surprise me that Yanti was nibbling on them. Yanti, the fabulous Ms. Trixie was in town on Friday. We had a BT party celebrating the return of the "Legend". She decapitated and dehorned a unicorn. Okay, it was a pinata but she did it with the broomstick between her legs to hit it. Definitely not a force to be reckoned with! |

I mean, I thought so, but hey, people are weird--I used to live in Venice Beach where people would do anything on a bike. And I do mean, anything. Outdoors. So then you're fine. Besides, long rides call for moderation (mostly) so watching something probably means you're exactly doing what you should be, as you said. Most people who can, do watch TV or DVDs while they ride indoors (myself included). I did have a cycling coach once (what a super piglet, very Zen and a pro rider) who advised me that the best training session I could do was ride (indoors) for at least an hour, no music no nothing, with my eyes closed, in one position, in one gear. I have done that for both cycling and swimming (on a bungee cord) and they have been transcendent experiences. |

Coastal Carolina | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Morning y'all Got my run in last night, shorter then planned but the wife got the night off so priorities of family, work, then tri meant a 5 miler instead of an 8. I hope to get a run in when I get home before watching a taped version of my Gamecocks beating up on some Cornhuskers... My HIM training plan starts tomorrow going to reduce a few b/s workouts to keep up with final runs of the HM training what does everyone have on their plate today? |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Beautiful day here in England. We have sun and everything!!! I have just completed my longest run so far as part of my plan and took one minute/mile off of my previous run times which makes me really happy plus i had only ten minutes rest before hopping on my bike to fulfil what i should have done yesterday. I even managed to match my best bike time too so feeling really good at the minute. Still got to swim today to keep up with my planned commitment and will be doing so in a couple of hours. Have stopped smoking for 29 hour now so that may have something to do with me feeling so good and running better. One day i hope to be able to post my first 5 miler. So far i am just moving up to 3 and a bit. What do the Gamecocks do?? (apart from beating up some poor Cornhuskers) Is this a new american sport? I think we should know.

Monday's are usually rest days for me. I generally take Emma out for a three mile walk before work and that's what I did today. Back in the office today (despite the fact that all other state and federal agencies appear to be closed for bowl game Monday). One more month of marathon training before taper ;-) Edited by jmkizer 2012-01-02 8:21 AM |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Today I start the training plan imposed by my coach! It begins with a 30 minute run followed by some 'functional weight' training--i.e. core exercises... It looks like fun! Of course I am really looking forward to tomorrow--a day off from work, but a 15 mile bike workout--so relaxing, no, really! We have a great bike trail here, and this ride is supposed to be a moderate effort! Okay, that's enough chatter time from me. its time I was off to work! See ya all when I can grab some internet! |
