I just signed up for a half marathon in April and a 12K in March.  The 12K will be my first race of the year.  It's just a C race, meaning that I will treat it like a hard workout and not taper for it.  I'm really excited about it!!  Have a great weekend you all!

Work hard!

Enrique

. I'm sure that would be a hit with the crowd. Good suggestion, But its kind of common. Any other suggestions? I would really like to stand out but still be able to run fast.

Well, I guess if you want to dress like a diva you could wear gloves (the kind that go to the elbow), big sunglasses and jewelry.  A little black dress and heels would really round it out, but I don't know how'd you run like that!

I'm going to have to go to the pool more on Sunday morning. Room in the lanes, had the lane to myself for 28 of my 30 min.

Since I don't have a lake near me to practice in how do you do your turn arounds in the pool?  Seems like if you do the flip or even just touch the wall, but then push away with your legs, your not really practicing like you would/should for an open water event.   Today I touched the wall, or just swam the turn around without touching the wall to try to keep momentum.  Any other ideas for this newbie?
Thanks
Patricia

If you search the forums you'll see there is a huge debate about whether it is better to do open turns  or flips turns.  There are even some people who say you should not do either, just stop before you get to the wall and turn.  None of these ways mimic what you will do in open water - you don't come to an almost complete stop in the water only to start again (well, sometimes you do if you run into someone ) and you don't have anything to push off.  I do open turns, mainly because I have motion sickness and flip turns can make me sick.  I would do them otherwise.  Especially for a newbie, the most important thing is to swim, swim, swim.  Don't worry about which method of turning around is more efficient, just get yourself going.  Personally, I would never consider turning without touching the wall, but if you choose that route that's ok; just get your yardage in.

I'm sure more experienced swimmers will/would have more to add.

Signed up for the A1A Half Marathon at the last minute. Did it with my friend and we enjoyed the morning on the beach in Fort Lauderdale.

That sounds like fun.  I hate that many of the good races around here fill so far in advance.  Especially annoying for us injury prone runners.

Why over-think?  Just swim.  Flip turns are fine. Nothing you do will reproduce open water but open water unless you have an endless pool.

First 10k is this Sunday. Then the following Sunday is my last half marathon. I'd like to break 3 hours. The weekend bricks and bikes start this Saturday/Sunday too with the Hammerheads. I really plan on making the most of that group this year and working on my biking.

I hope everyone is well and training!

I just had to change my eating because I'm fat as can be. Going back to normal eating. When I'm hungry. And stopping when I'm full. Novel, I know.
