Good Morning!

Blanda, If you don't feel comfortable leaving the kids in the house then don't do it. Given what has happened to it would be hard for me to leave my kids if in the same situation. You may not be putting in the specific "tri" training that you want to right now. But all of the other cross training that you are doing does and will pay off. Plus your kids are only little for a short period of time. Triathlons aren't going anywhere.

I'm racing a short non-USAT Sprint Triathlon tomorrow. The race is a few hours out of town and at a camp. So I'm taking my tent and camping out before the race. It should be interesting as the bike is supposed to be hilly and challenging. Also given how I've felt this week it will interesting to see if my body cooperates.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

West Point Lake Olympic Triathlon for me Sunday.  Will drive up tomorrow so I can scout the bike route, pick up package etc.

Anyone else racing this weekend?

Good Luck to all the racers this weekend.

Just normal training for me, and the boys soccer game.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend.  It'll be cold and windy in my corner of the U.S.

Do any of you ever feel that races interfere with your training?

I've got a 5K in the morning.  My husband is going to enter as a walker

Then, it's off to breakfast.

Rene: You're so right. I am feeling good about my improving fitness. Once I can start full on tri training, I'll be ready!

Good luck all you racing!

Had so much fun at the relay race. My team, Space Unicorns (we had our own song that we blasted when our runner was near, oncoming, or passing, lol!), was an MOP, fun, awesome group of 8, 3 of us women. The race baton hand-off points were all located at scenic sights. Having two small children with us, it was nice to be able to play on a beach while we waited for our runners! Had I jumped on this team earlier, I know that my kids would have been welcomed and enjoyed it. Something to remember for next year!!

I started at 4am with a 3.7 mile leg. I didn't have a watch or my phone to time it, and wish I did! It felt good and fast! I wore my Saucony Hattori Mini' shoes and my legs felt awesome from start to finish, AND waiting around afterwards for the rest of the relay.

Looking forward to the next relay race in June. I think I can put together a team of of my soccer team and kick some butt!

Hope you having a fab weekend, friends!

Here is where the race started and finished:

That sounds like a blast Blanda!   I've never done a relay race and I think I will take up the next offer of one.

This is a work weekend for me.  Will get in my training in the evenings.  Nothing too exciting.  Will probably do all my biking on the trainer.

I had a pretty weird Triathlon dream last night.  These are very common for me leading up to a race.  In this one my chain broke and as I tried to fix it it kept coming apart in more pieces at mile 80 on the bike.  Then somehow it magically got fixed.  I proceeded to ride and then I was rising in a maze where I had no idea where to turn and was lost.  A police officer then started yelling at me telling me I'm done, and it's time to go home.  SO I hop on my bike and next I'm riding it through the halls of the hospital where I work.  I was on call and having to round on patients and they were all doing poorly.  Cockroaches as big as mice started appearing and then I woke up.

Damn, do I need to be put into an institution????  Jim

Blanda, your pictures always kill me - what a spot!!  So glad you had a blast... we will expect an mp3 of your team song, too :-)

Jimmy, those are the kinds of dreams my wife has - though usually about teaching classes rather than triathlons... so let's hope you all don't need to be institutionalized!  (the mind is a scary place!)

Okay, I don't know how you folks in the Deep South (Texas, Alabama, even SC) do it... went for a SHORT run this morning... 4 flat miles... egad, thought I was going to melt. Trying to squeeze in what I can down here... more of Dad's old hybrid bike tomorrow, complete with swiveling seat and dangling basket - truly a classic instrument of torture :-)

Jim, that was terrifying. I've yet to have a triathlon dream, but if I do, I don't want that one.

Just got back from a run with my running group; we did 5 miles at 9:31/mile and it felt great. I think I've overtrained just a tad this week, so I took Monday and Friday off, which I think has helped a lot. I biked hard on Wednesday and then ran too hard Thursday and was feeling really tired, not sore, but just fatigued.Frown I was feeling a little pain in my left leg, nothing serious, but I didn't want to be an idiot and go too hard with my first race just two weeks away now. I really feel like I could've done 10 miles this morning, which was a great feeling. So, I'll probably do a light swim tonight, long bike tomorrow. Feeling good!Laughing

Jim: That dream would have had me up in a cold sweat! I tend to have some really wild, sometimes frightening dreams when something big is coming up. Mine involve creepy, crawlies a lot too. They'll bug me the whole day sometimes as I try to figure out what it is trying to tell me.

Jaime: Sounds like it paid off to listen to your body and take a break. Sometimes it's just necessary! Glad you had a great run!

Stu: LOL! I have a vision of you on your Dad's lovely bike, ringing a little bell to let people know you're approaching.

Here's that fabulous theme song for Team Space Unicorn!

Today is looking beautiful and rain free. I think I'll take the kids to one of the awesome sights we stopped at during the relay race. It's a natural pool! They built a diving platform to jump off of as the water is pretty deep. My boy will love it.

Have a great evening!

Catwoman:  CONGRATS ON YOUR VICTORY!!!!!!!  Nice job.  I also thought how you handled the mistake at the awards ceremony was classy.  I mean, you know in your heart you won, only wish they would perhaps send you your own plaque since they screwed up.  Jim

Rene --  RRRAAAAHHH!!!!??! What the heck? I agree with Jim, sounds like you handled that with class. They should have immediately apologized and offered your own plaque, even if they had to go back to the prison and get them to make one especially for you.  Hope they get it right on the website for you, at least.

Rene-congrats!  Found myself shaking my head while reading your log. Unreal!  Great job!

Blanda-relay sounds like it was fun.  Beautiful pictures.

Jim-interesting dreams.  I've probably had tri dreams before but can't recall any right now.  Did have a dream just before my alarm clock went off the other morning where I was headed for court in my workout clothes running uphill and into the wind. Weird.

Stu-hang in there in the Florida heat.

Jamie-always good to listen to your body when training. Staying too focused on hitting every workout in your schedule is not the best idea overall. (note to self....heed your own advice).

Did an easy bike and run before driving 3.5 hours to race location.  Was able to drive the bike and run courses. Bike is fairly hilly for a course in the South but hopefully not overwhelming. Unsure whether swim will be wetsuit legal. Going to be a hot day with possible record high around 88 degrees.  No shade on the run so hopefully it will be in the 70's during the run.  I always get a good bit of pre-race jitters.  I will sleep like cr#p tonight and be antsy in the morning.  I love racing but hate the day or two leading up to a race.  I can't imagine how I would feel before an IM with all the time invested in getting ready for that type of event.  May have to ease my goals for tomorrow given the anticipated heat....I know "trust your training" right?

The race director sent me a very kind apology note this evening. He also offered to have a plaque made and sent to me and a free race entry for next year. The race is a fundraiser for mission efforts for their church. I told him that I would much rather they put the money towards their mission efforts. Even though I still kind of want a plaque made by a prisoner!

Randy- Good luck at your race tomorrow! I know you'll do great!!!!

Rene -- Hilarious and slightly disturbing.  Good on you for keeping it all in perspective, and CONGRATS on taking 1st.  It really is a great feeling, no matter the race.  I'd bet that plenty of people there knew that you actually won, and they were admiring your accomplishment.

Jim -- I hear you.  I've had many such dream.  Broken chains.  Forgotten goggle (I actually DID do that once..,).  Once I dreamt that I couldn't tie my shoes (despite the fact that I always use elastic laces).  For me the most common dream is that I'm engaged in the running motion but not actually moving forward.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.  I'm hoping for an OWS and then 36 hours in the mountains (but alas, no big rides there -- I am really trying to impress Randy with my taper this spring!).  And speaking of Randy:  GO TO BED!  (And have a great race.)

For some of us, that is our normal approach to running :-)

Way to go Randy!

I'm off to the mountains for a quick visit to the cabin.  (To resist temptation, I'm not bringing the bike...)  Might have no internet until tomorrow pm.  Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone.
