For the new folks, if you're worried about keeping up don't be.  Just jump right in and fire away with any questions you might have.  We tend to just chat about random things right along with training.

When you say 'new folks' does that include Jayne?

 And what about Kayla?

Trevor, I'm I going to have to come up north and kick your a$$??

Technically, that was not phrased in the form of a question, therefore you do not need the question marks.

Who made you the grammar police?  (QUESTION MARK INTENDED AND NEEDED)

Have you even worked out yet today?  Wink

Wow go away for a couple of days and it takes an hour to catch up.

Running and Plan: I have my clients follow a plan religiously if they want to get better. I however haven't been following mine as well and I can feel the difference. I need to get back on track. I don't think that once in a while when you are "feeling good" that you should worry about a free range run. Use it as a mental recovery day and enjoy the run but then get back on plan. Although most of us here are slightly off center to begin with we are doing this for fun. So remember to include the FUN in your day.

Core workouts: I have an extremely strong opinion about working abs/core and that is YES DO IT. As a personal trainer I don't do any training for clients without core work. That includes abs and back. You will find that everything you do can be better and stronger if you make sure your core is strong. Don't leave it out under any circumstances. ( have I made it clear how I feel about the core Cool ) I have several quick workouts ( 7 to 10 Min) that if you're interested I could post. These are all equipment free and can be done anywhere.

Congrats on the results Andre and Jayne.

I didn't see a bio post Kayla. Trevor do you know who this might be

Seven very entertaining pages caught up.

 Great job Andre and Chet!

Linda - I know race day is the apex of the training but just remember - no matter what happens on race day it doesn't take away all the new speed and fitness you've gained on this journey.  We love the strong, brave, amazing athlete you are!!

Steve - Avery has gotten so BIG!   She is so cute I didn't even notice the capris!

Matt - coffee man.  Good to see you.  Time to update that photo though - I think you've been sporting that for many years.  I need to dig up our Cougar Mnt photo.  Most of that was a good time!

Speaking of unearthing old photos, look what I found!!!!!

Here's my Bio:

NAME: Kevin / Klove

STORY: I played Football, Swimming, and Lacrosse in high school. Upon coming to college I played club lacrosse for 3 years. The Lacrosse team was very disorganized and barely practiced / had any games so I didn't have much physical activity in the way of sports. I got very into lifting weights and put on a lot of muscle. Last year a friend of mine on the club triathlon team convinced me to do one race with him. After that I was hooked and have been training and racing for the last year and a half.

FAMILY STATUS: I'm only 22 so no family in the near future...hopefully

CURRENT TRAINING: I train mostly with my club team which is about 12 hours a week, perhaps a bit more in our peak weeks.

2011  RACES: USAT Collegiate championships, Savageman 30.0, Giant Acorn - Olympic, Patriot Sprint

2012 RACES:  USAT Collegiate championships, Mighty Montauk - Olympic, looking to find a HIM - suggestions welcome

WEIGHTLOSS: While I was big into lifting I hit a peak weight of 215. Since then i have lost about 40 pounds and now weigh 175. Don't have any specific weight goals just looking to stay healthy.

Goals: Break 2:30 in an Olympic and complete my first HIM

@Suzy - I promise to make every effort to stick around.

@Steve - The coffee biz is going fairly well.  Still can't quit my day job (as much as I'd like to do so).   We've definitely learned a lot about coffee in the last 8 months.  I thought I knew a lot going in... wow!!

@Tracy - my pic is from last year's Birch Bay Road Race.  Sadly, I only have 3 other races since then (and one of them being this year's BBRR).  So here's a pic of me and my very pregnant wife from Easter.

A little background for those that joined during my hiatus.  I started with this group back in 2008 (doesn't seem that long ago).  I remember John's first timid post asking if he could be part of this illustrious group.... had we only known.

I am married with two young children and a 3rd due on or about the 27th.  So my plan for this year is to try to be consistent and try to have fun.  Whatever that ends up looking like in terms of volume and events is cool with me... focus on the fun.

From your races, looks like you are the DC area, we're in Arlington.

There are a few 70.3's in the area, mostly flat and hot, A few hillier ones if you want to venture further into MD or down to TN.

Alright, I just changed the tire on my bike from my trainer tire to my road tire.  It will be my first outdoor ride this year.  (Trevor, I'm totally blowing off bike class in favour of an outdoor ride today.)  I remember how to change a tire, so that's good.  Have to get back in the habit of being prepared for an outdoor ride.  I even had to go looking for my helmet.

Just hoping I don't fall over on my bike.  I just changed to speedplay pedals last week and I'm still getting used to them.  I've practiced clipping and unclipping many times on the trainer, so hopefully I'll be good.

Nice photo!  Did you actually do the race in those shorts?  Drag factor must have been high.  Compression next time Wink.

PS.  Hopefully your not grossed out by a bunch of 40 something (ok some are younger) women checking you out.

Haha we ran the whole race together. I guess she just got her foot across first. I probably should have just taken off at the end and left her in the dust...show her who's boss. I actually ran the full marathon and they just clocked me in at the half because they didn't want to go through the hullabaloo of having a new world record set on their course. Wink

A fellow Savageman - awesome!   I didn't race last year but did the 30 the previous 2 years. I was bummed they changed the bike course.  Nothing like climbing Toothpick at 9% within 2 miles of getting out of the water.  And you need to go back and climb Frank Brenneman - even if you aren't racing.  That is tatoo worthy for sure. If you are looking for a half you should come back and do the Savage Half!!!

Here is a photo of me and my girls coming down the shoot at my last Savage outing.
