Ershk - 2013-01-18 11:23 AM Morning TAN.  I get to help engineer a surprise party (really, just dinner with a few "best friends") for my 11 year-old for his birthday today.  How best to mess with him (in a fun loving way, of course)?

hopefully you've started the day by ignoring him/not acknowledging that today is a special day.  or say..."oh i'm forgetting something important today - my car is due for inspection!  YES that's it!"

make sure by dinner he thinks you hate him and have completely forgotten about his bday.

of course if you were nice at all this morning you've already ruined it.

Um I am going to go with no on this one being someone who did have their parents forget their birthday.

I really don't care about my birthday, though I just realized I am a year younger than I thought?!?

that's a pleasant surprise!

It is way more important to you when you are a kid though.

Goodie Goodie.....Kate and Cheri are both here.  Maybe one of the two of you wonderful ladies can answer my previous question about walking in heels.  Are some women just born with the ability to walk in 5 inch heels or is a learned skill?

It is a learned skill though some have better body mechanics to begin with.

i think it's a natural talent.  i have a fierce "batch walk" that i just have always done, i don't know how to walk well in flats.  haha.

It's about strong calves. When I walk in 5-inch heels I notice that my calves are sore the next day.

Tony, thats what I mean, but do you like the way they make your calves look?.. E has strong calves and she needs some practice in any height heels.  Maybe if they made flip flops in 3 inch heels she would have learned.

They do!

Southbranch 4:30 . . . whatever day.  I think we should leave at least a little time to see if Chicagoans can pick ONE race over the summer somewhere relatively local that as many of us as possible can make it to.

I felt a cold coming on yesterday, and went out for a run before work this morning.  The clear head/sinuses achieved by the run are now becoming much less clear.

Funny, that. I do shave my legs but joke about wearing heels. How very triathlete of me.

swapping stories with another female engineer this morning she told me about a time when she was the only woman in a team meeting (typical) and they were doing some sort of teambuilding/getting to know you exercise, when a middle aged engineer asked her to tell the group why she studied engineering instead of homemaking in college.

this only happened about 6 years ago.
