I have now found out I will never paste what I eat here because you all make me look bad

Nature Valley protein bar...yes Kelly I realize all the 'stuff' in there but it has become a staple of my diet and I was running out the door this morning

16 Oz of water

No snack today because I came home to an empty pantry..

Lunch was a chicken cobb salad with chipotle vinagrette

jamba juice peach mango

dinner is still up in the air depending on what I can find for me and the two big kids since the wife is helping here sister with a new baby. With here gone I am not thinking this is a good week to 'clean' up my diet haha

Its just crazy as a general notion to think of all of the non-food "stuff" that's in so much of what we eat.

That it is! I hope to try and remove some things. I just can't see how to completely remove all the stuff. It seems it is in everything we eat these days. Possibly even our produce if you really get into it. I hope you guys can do it. I would like to hear if it helps or changes anything for y'all. I am sure it won't be to hard for some of you since you already have pretty strict diets it seems. I know I will be sure to look closer at the "healthy" options out there now and do a little more comparing.

Jen - I use unsweetened coconut (big shredded pieces, not the really fine powder) mixed in with fresh ground flax seed, almond milk (coconut milk would work too), and some chopped up walnuts.  It takes a while to get the consistency right, but it's super good.

I use about 1/4 cup fresh ground flax seed (yes, it's a lot of fat and calories), handful of coconut shreds, small handful of chopped up walnuts, and then almond milk to make a paste.  Not to pasty though, a little thin.  Heat for a couple of minutes, yum!

The protein issue is two fold -- one you don't want to use an isolate and two you want to avoid artificial sweeteners (cake batter flavor).

I'm going to try this one -- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031JK96C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?i... sure how its going to go.

What would the benefit be of the green super food if you have a diet high in fresh produce? What does it taste like?

Its additional phytonutrients and anti oxidants.  Essentially the theory is that processed food and sugar create free radicals with lots of crazy extra electrons running around and that all the green super food adds in a bunch of antioxidants that snap up the extra electrons.  The green super foods also help to de-acidify the body (along with drinking water with apple cider vinegar).

ETA - it tastes like grass.  Not in a bad way, just in a grassy way.  I just drink it mixed with water.  My little brother who is a wuss about eating things has no problems with it either.

Thank you, Karen.  I bought the big shredded pieces (unsweetened).  I will definitely try this, as I have all this stuff in the house right now.

1:25 on trainer this morning, and then I'm going to work on my core later.  I have been doing the core workouts from this site consistently since I was given the green light after Cedar Point, and I am really noticing a difference in the abdominals, glutes, and hips.  I have done a million squats and presses over the last 2 months as well, so the glutes are getting a lot stronger from those.

My husband is starting a juice fast tomorrow.  It's only 5 days, but it's going to be awful for him.  His goals are to cut out caffeine and sugar.  An organic farmer is making his juice for him and dropping it off.  6 other guys from his office are doing this too.  Wish me luck, people, because he's going to be a real gem with that caffeine withdrawal!

Isolates aren't horrible.  Some find it easier on the stomach than a concentrate.  I like mixed proteins for what we do.  Whey is quick absorbing.  Good for post workout.  Protein of choice for bb'ers.  Problem with whey is that most of the reasonably priced stuff on the market has been denatured meaning that the manufacturing/filtration process exposes it to heat and breaks down a lot of it into a form that is less bioavailable to the body.  Casein and Egg protein are slower absorbing proteins that have better bioavailability.  I like a blend of 2 of the 3 if I can find it.

Designer Whey sells just whey (isolates and/or concentrates), Jay Robb is the brand but they appear to sell a variety of forms of protein, Muscle Milk tastes great because of the carb and fat content (great for bulking or people with fast metabolisms), Vega seems to be the protein of choice of the vegetarian/vegan crowd I know (admittedly a small group of people).

Right now I'm using Dymatize Elite Gourmet which is a whey/casein blend.

Today:  7 AM- oatmeal, sludge (whey, natty pb, almond milk mixture)

10 AM- Egg white omelet on tortillas

Noon- 2 boca burgers, field greens, walnuts

Midafternoon- 1/2 serving of left over green chile stew and banana

Dinner- Stuffed Peppers & Veggies

Snack- Organic Yogurt & Frozen berries

For those of you in the NE area this race weekend which includes an Olympic, HIM and kids duathlon is run by the same group that puts on the Patriot HIM. It's in Fairlee VT where I guess there used to be a race a while back. I love Patriot so I'm considering this one. It's later than I wanted my first race so I'm still mulling it over. That part of Vermont is just so beautiful and the bike should be awesome. Love the lake swim as well.

I've been working my core big time this fall as well and I really notice the difference. I like to do at least some right beofre and after my workouts and I've noticed it has really helped with my recovery.

Keep up the good work!
