So, I predicted somewhere around 14.  I was chatting with my coach who was like "12 - 13." yeah, he can't do math, so unless he expects me to be a LOT faster than I have been in training, he's completely nuts!

KWin - 2010-07-13 6:54 PM At the dinner, do they have the video and motivational Mike Reilly stuff during, before, or after the food? I ask because I probably can't eat the dinner (allergic to wheat, which is in everything) and would go just to see that stuff and not eat anything. I'd rather skip the everyone-else eating part and come late if the Mike Reilly part is at the end...

If I remember correctly, there will be video on before dinner, but main "show" is after everyone eats.

Raise your hand if you had a craptastic taper and managed to cross the finish line with a smile?  I'm only averaging hour-long workouts because, honestly, having a fast sprint this weekend is more important to me than a fast IM next weekend.  I'm just kind of curious as to what I should expect on race day if I've skipped the last two 3 hour bike rides... my swimming isn't an issue and I'm not going to worry about the run... TIA!

btw After the race I plan to head back to the oval to watch the finish, provided God's grace let me finish healthy.

It’s actual the best part of the day for me.  I went down last year after the race and forgot all of my pain.

michgirlsk,

Thanks so much for doing this.  I think Kathy would but she has some 10,000 mile road trip going on the 25th.  I hope she has a smart phone to track us LP crazies

Okay ladies and gents, I'm off to the airport.  I'm bringing Madeline (6), Gracie (4), and Christopher (3).  We're taking two bags, a bike, and three carry-ons.  The transfer in Chicago should prove to be very interesting!  (The Doc has to stay and work for another week but will arrive next Friday)  We leave here at 11 a.m. Thursday (today) and arrive in Maryland at 9 p.m. Thursday (tomorrow for you).  Almost a total of 24 hours of travel time.  This is my last big workout before LP.

Don't forget to rest.

I think we should all get together in the final hour and have a cold beer while we cheer on the rest of the crew.

Have fun you guys.  It will be hard emotionally for me to stay online and track everyone but I have a lot of tri peeps here who are racing and that I want to see do well and have fantastic days.  So I will be online as much as I can.

(I dropped out of the race earlier in the year.  I was really looking forward to racing when I signed up last year but stuff came up and dropping out was the best decision I could have made for my health and family.  But that doesn't make the decision any easier).

I hope to see you all there waiting for me and my wife. My wife is doing IM #2 (me #5) after making it through the '08 monsoon with 9 minutes to spare. This year I'm hanging with her and my goal for myself is to get my wife in 10 minutes before midnight (or better) with a smile on her face (and mine too).  Just wished she would have trained more....do tell her I said that!

Hi all - I'm a first time Ironman participant this year and just a lurker on this thread.   Love listening to all of your advice and hearing that I'm not alone in my woes.  As I sat here pondering the fact that I now have a race number (2644 btw) and that I only have 4 days of work before LP, heart beating a little faster and a cool sweat building on my arms (maybe because it is 84 in my house due to this weather and no AC...but I digress..)  I decided to catch up on the last few days postings on this thread.

And then I hit Marvarnett's post on picking up your gear after the race...and I quote..."You can sit there and your Sherpa's can pick up all of your crap."   Well I broke out into a full out gut wrenching laugh and am still recovering from the water that almost came out my nose.  Exactly what I needed.

So thanks to ALL of you for your willingness to share not only your experiences and wisdom but also your wit and lightheartedness.  Greatly appreciated!  I hope to see many of you up in LP and watch you all leave it all out on the course and kick some major tail.

question about run gear bag. We are supposed to drop it off on saturday during gear checkin. Does that mean my fuel belt needs to be filled that day o can I add the fuel belt to the bag sunday morning?

Verify at the Athlete meeting, but at IM KY last year, the answer was NO.  You had zero access to your T1 & T2 bags race morning.  That made for some interesting tasting Infinit for me the first part of the run.
