Hey everyone....I've been sick this week---flu. I had it and it nailed me Mon, Tues and Yesterday. Still feel weak, but did do some abs this morning. Going to pool in a few for a short swim to get back into the swing of things. This illness may seriously trash my May goals, especially if Wife or Kids get it too. Oh well, all I can do is try to get the miles in.....

Can I just flip out for one moment here really quick?

Cool? Ok...

Thanks.

So next weekend's tri...accuweather is saying a high of 60 with a real feel of 54. The days leading up to the event are all in the low-mid 60's with overnight lows dipping into the 30's. Plus...there's rain forecasted the three days prior.

Water temps? Tuesday they were 53 degrees...and today it's listed as 57 degrees. I can only assume it'll dip back down with the rain.

Am I crazy? I knew it was a cold water tri...but at least last year it was in the mid 60's in the water with temps in the upper 70's.

I'm seriously preparing for misery here, folks. A frosty swim followed by biking my way out of apple canyon (1800 ft of climbing over 16.8 miles) and then a hilly run to boot.

Is it bad I'm secretly hoping they drop it to a du for everyone?

I love to swim in freezing cold waters. I love to swim in freezing cold waters. I love to swim in freezing cold waters...

oh wait...no. no i don't.

Get better.  Don't try to get back to training TOO early.  I tried that when I had the flu in March.  It took twice as long to recover...

Good luck with the race!  I hear ya on the cold water...53...brrrrrr.  I've got an HIM in June (MN)...average lake temp 69 degrees, they're predicting much colder this year......but on the bright side...it's always wetsuit legal that way...

So...you love to swim in cold water and you love to bike...sounds to me like you don't have anything to complain about!

Seriously, though.  Don't freak out just yet.  The 17th is still 9 days away.  This is the midwest.  And you know what they say about the weather in the midwest..."Don't like the weather?  Give it a few minutes it will change."  I'd say give it another week before you start freaking out about the cold water.  Feel free to freak out about those hills at any time though.  You definitely have some climbing to do!

hi guys,

I've just updated your spreadsheet and I'm afraid I've had to replace the old version with the new one (there was just too much copying and pasting involved otherwise, and it's been quite time consuming as it was).

here's the link:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pfYL7DR_dx-Co0YezxGDgag&hl=en

So I'm very sorry if this has just broken the link in your rather lovely (but not quite as cool as the internationals!! ) links table, but it has saved my sanity and probably also my marriage!

Please check the details and make sure all the times entered are correct (I did try to copy them across correctly!). The method of calculating the average has changed - it's now an average of each individual's average, rather than an average of each discipline's average. This is more balanced, because otherwise the strength average was counting for a quarter of the result.

Any questions, let me know!

cheers,
Gill

Oh, and just in case it isn't obvious - you only enter your training in the boxes. All the other fields calculate automatically.

Knocked out a 50 minute brick this evening; 25 bike and 25 run.  Soooooooo, do I add 5% to each 25 minute workout?  Inquiring minds want to know!

"A herring?"

I think there's a column for you to enter the number of bricks you did.  The entire thing should calculate automatically.  It is quite an impressive spreadsheet.

Oh...annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd...

I'm getting a new bike fit tomorrow after work...

SO...in a perfect world...I'm going to have a much easier time getting into aero on zeee open road.

I'm optimistic that this'll help my shoulder pain.

Mike has his today and he had massive improvement. Shorter stem...adjusted the seat and hood...pulled back the aerobars...he's no longer reaching (which is both of our problems).

We had great fits for regular racing on a road bike...but the aero position throws it all for a loop and an adjustment needs to be made.

Yeah, the aero position is just a totally different beast.  It took me a lot of tinkering to find mine.

I can't say that I have found mine yet - unfortunately, the bike I bought is not the right type for aero bars, however - I have had it fitted so I can be in the best aero position given the bike

who knew that I would have like this sport so much?
