Ouch Brit!  Sounds like you had some rough training lately.  Hope you get all of that taken care of and can train without too much pain soon.

Ice bath... hmm.. I'm with Kirk on that one.  Then again, I haven't been running long distances yet either.  When playing baseball I ALWAYS iced my shoulder and elbow every time after I pitched so I can see the benefits when I get to that point of running more than 3 miles.

Kirk, those dumbells have been on my long "wish list" for quite some time!  That's awesome, they seem really handy and don't take up much room at all.  I've been telling myself I have a gym membership for that, but this past year it would really be nice to get a quick workout in at home when I have the girls at home by myself - which is often.

I've enjoyed a nice, long week of hanging out with family and fishing.  Time to get back to reality and start hitting the training plan again.  I need to make some decisions and choose some more races to do now.  I currently have the Austin Tri in September, but that could change now that I have tickets to the OU-BYU football game at the NEW Dallas Cowboys/JerryLand stadium.  Will probably find a sprint in the area that fits my schedule to do in May.

I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that when my kids are here training will be minimal. My time with them is too short anyway. It seems to be working out pretty well as long as I get the longer stuff in on the weekends that they are not here. Thank God my wife is supportive!!

Wes, I have a gym membership and two gyms I can use at work and I still love to have the chance to sneak something in at home when I need to. Time is the most valuble resource around here....

I had my longest swim ever today.  3200 meters.  That was long.  I had a dude in the lane next to me wearing swim trunks and I think he forgot to tie the drawstrings! I go to breathe and I get an eye full of bum checks.    It made me chuckle but yikes!

I still have to run tonight but I sure don't want too.  There just isn't enough time in the day to take care of the house, kids and do my training.  Okay, not true.  It's just hard to manage my time.

Pity party of one, you're table is ready!

I took my pity party on the road and we ended up at the gym.  I got my hour of running done!  And I feel better.

AWESOME swim and run!! Great job Erica!! 3200 is awesome, that's 2 miles!!
The calf is SO much better today, and I'm feeling much better about it. I have been trying to stay fairly positive, but it's definitely better when things start feeling lots better too! I can swim and bike, so that starts up again tomorrow. I've had TWO days off...and I feel like a slug! Haha!!

So, I have been looking at the discount bike part web sites. What is the difference between clinchers and tubulars???

Crew- LIFE IS CRAZY! Anyhow, I'm surviving, the calf is getting better, and I hope it's at least 90% by next weekend's race (5 Apr).

Clinchers and Tubulars: the difference is that a clincher has a tire and a tube and lays within the rim of the tire, a tubular is just what it sounds like tube/tire together and is glued to the inside of the rim.  In the past, technology was such that tubulars were typically faster than the clinchers.  But, enough things have changed that really, from most of what I have read, the differences are negligble and it becomes what one is most comfortable in using.  Most people have clinchers for training as it's much cheaper.  Many of your race wheels are Tubulars, though most have Clincher options now too.  If you have tubular race wheels, you have to carry a pre-stretched, pre-glued tire (or two), and CO2 or pump in case you flat.  If you flat in a clincher, you just need that tube and some CO2 or pump if you flat.  Tubulars, because they are tires and tubes in one, are more expensive than the tire/tubes for separate clinchers.

Bottom line, comes down to what you want and are comfortable with. I got race wheels last year and I got clinchers.  I am comfortable with changing a clincher, it's what I train on, and it's cheaper.

It takes me at least 20 mins to chage the clincher, I can only imagine how long a tubualr would take....

So Erica is keeping a great streak going and brought home more hardware from a 5K yesterday! Way to go Erica!!

It's been a week since I ran, and I'm going to give it a shot today, so we'll see how it goes!

Wow -- time flies.  I didn't realize how long it's been since I've posted :-)  I've been busy with projects around the house and have been trying to stay away from the computer!  I haven't done much in the way of tri workouts, but I've finished several "projects" around the house.  It seems I have a never ending list of things to update or fix around here.  Oh the joys of owning a 30yr old home that has never had anything updated before.

Great job on the 5K Erica!

Thanks guys!  Saturday's race was a tiny local race but, it was the first time I placed in my AG (not Athena) so I am pretty stoked about that.

In other news, I am SO TIRED OF BAD WEATHER!!!!!  I need some warm sunshine!  I have a ride scheduled for today and it's in the 40s but gonna be super windy this afternoon with a chance of downpours.  Come on!  So, I'm still on the trainer.  Getting very frustrated.  The rest of the week should be nicer though so hopefully I'll be able to get outside.  I've only been off the trainer twice so far this spring.  My HIM is in 12 weeks, I need some long outdoor rides!

Okay, rant over.  Hope everyone else is doing well and gearing up for tri season.

Brittany, did you get to the doc for your leg yet?

Well, saw the Sports Physical Therapist today, and he ordered a bone scan (14 April) to rule out (or confirm) a possible "fibula stress fracture."  I have some exercises I need to do to strengthen the my lower leg muscles--and truly, I'm kind of kicking myself in the butt right now because I used to do strength all the time and did I get hurt....nope, got so focused on S/B/R that it fell to the side and now look--INJURED.  Anyhow, I'm going to do the half-iron distance Aqua Bike this next weekend and I'm going to defer Boston to next year.  The goal, the prize, the focus is Ironman Florida.  It may take 6-8 weeks to heal up from this and be able to run again---BUT---so long as I can start running in June/July I'll be fine with Ironman Florida.  PLUS, I'm about to become an Aqua Jogger...I will NOT will NOT will NOT let this injury beat me down, depress me, etc.  It's just part of life, it's a risk we take doing the things we do, and I'm just going to get through it and come out better on the other end!

Hello....hello...hello...too quiet in here. I just assume everyone is training, right?

I was thinking the same thing!

I am tired.  My legs are tired.  I am looking forward to Friday being a rest day.  And tomorrow I only have a 30 minute run (and a swim that will probably be pushed until Friday).  Thanks heavens!  I put 1 hour 20 minutes on the trainer today and I don't think I have ever sweat so much!  Do any of you use Spinerval dvds?  I used the Race Day dvd that came with my trainer today and it was great.  Much better than just spinning along like I had been doing.  If you use Spinervals (or something like it) what do you think?  Recommendations?

I hope there aren't too many type-o's here!  I'm using the new site and the auto spell check doesn't seem to be working.

I've looked at the spinervals several times, but haven't broken down to buy one yet.

Brittany,  Hope your tests don't show anything too bad to hinder your training.  Just keep your eyes on IMFL! :-

Maybe it's quiet in here because everyone has spring fever.  Weather is warming up (at least here in TX!) and the time changed.  It looks like I'll be playing baseball on Tuesday nights until the end of June.  Someone twisted my arm hard enough to play part time -- I said no to playing Saturday games   It is a self-confidence booster to be able go out to the field and still be able to hit well against the young pitchers fresh out of college!

On a plus note with baseball - one of my teammates is currently training for a marathon and wants to get into triathlons, but is afraid of the swim.  I have someone to workout with from time to time and another person to keep me accountable, which is always a good thing.

I happened into it by chance.  I saw Ron's thread looking for testers right before it closed!  It looks good!   But I sure miss my red squiggly line cause I can't spell to save my life!

Seriously!  I still don't get why my plan has me swimming so many meters.  Crazy.  My hammy was fine.  I don't kick a whole lot so it doesn't bother my legs.  I pretty much only kick for balance.  I didn't do the planned 200m kick set though.  I just did a 200m freestyle and called it good.

I don't get my leg though.  It isn't a constant pain, it comes and goes all of a sudden.  It doesn't matter if I'm sitting or standing.  Crazy.  I think I need a massage!

No one else gets hurt!! That's an order---a massage could help a lot though, your piriformis could be tight, and that's a tough one to stretch and get to yourself.

Some of the BT plans do have a ton of swimming early in programs, but that's not a bad thing....it's building up your base. If you can do it now, then you will only be stronger and faster at it later.!! GREAT JOB!
