Elite Veteran 1817 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses madcow - 2005-06-24 11:22 AM Don't change your goal... But after reachng your goal in about 2 weeks of the swim challege, then reaching your goal after about 2 weeks of the bike challenge, don't be surpised if the sandbagging word pops up, especially since you are all up in the clubhouse running smack about the number of miles you have ridden Wasn't in the swim challenge, but if that had happened, I'd be really proud of myself, just like I am now! And since I came into the clubhouse and started poking the nest, I can hardly cry too much about what I get, just wanted to make sure my sister Goddesses did not agree, and as you can see, they obviously do not. |

Pro 5153 Helena, MT | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Malgal - 2005-06-24 9:35 AM It seems to me that the challenge was all about meeting a goal. In that case, the winning team should really be the team which has the largest percent of members achieving their goal, not how much you can go over your goal. I think that's a fabulous idea for the next challenge, Mal. It would certainly curb all this sandbagging talk... |

Elite 3235 San Diego | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Renee - 2005-06-24 9:43 AM < The boys, bless their hearts, are hellbent on recovering their masculinity after 2 losses to the women and, frankly, I hope they do. If we win this 3rd challenge, we will still lose because our dear, male partners in training will have lost something vitally essential to their manhood and that would be sad. I enjoy the smacktalk but am enough of a woman to know that men need to be Men. Talk about bad form. For 3 weeks all we heard from this side was talk about the threepeat. Now that you are getting worked, the excuses have started. If you try it's because you want to win, if we try it's because we are afraid of losing our masculinity. Losing doesn't make me any less of a person. Losing and not paying up on my debts And or Losing and whining does I liked the trash talk a whole lot more than the excuses |

Elite Veteran 1817 Cedar Rapids, Iowa | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Malgal - I think the goal is still for everyone to reach 100%. If I had not had an unexpected century come up that I really want to participate in (at goal setting time I did not realize it was in June, because this is my first year for it), I would only have overshot my goal by maybe 90 miles, instead of 190. Frankly even the 90 would have been kind of a surprise because it still exceeds what I did the previous month. Before that I did not even have a bike computer, so I have absolutely no idea how much I rode. I just followed the guidelines of the challenge to bump the previous month up by 20%. I am probably yelling too much about how much over goal I am, and annoying some people. It's just that I have only been riding a bike for a little over a year, and I had no idea that at the age of 41, I would be having this much fun riding a bike, and I'm surprised and proud of how many miles I have ridden and this challenge is kind of an excuse to holler about it. Probably not really a very cool thing to do. I hope you will blame your bad feeling on the lack of alcohol mostly, and only a little on me and my big mouth? |

St. Louis, MO | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Gwozdzilla - 2005-06-24 11:38 AM I have 7 days to put in 105 miles to meet my goal. I am beating myself up for getting down the wire with this distance left to go. I know that I had the cysts on the ovary thing and the bruised foot thing and now it's a horrendous cramping period thing....my body is betraying me and I am pissed! I have also had to modify or abandon my coached workouts on some days and that really makes me mad! But my coach told me that if I wasn't up for what was planned due to how I felt then just do what I can. I am still confident that I will meet the goal. I have 2 rides planned this weekend, about 60 miles worth.... then I have 4 days to get in the rest. I just felt like whining, now I feel better. Sounds like you have a good plan going there! Do what you can, and we will easily pedal our way to victory!!!! Sarah |

Buttercup 14334 | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Awwwww Tom! I'm not making excuses; that's not my style. If we lose it's because you guys were more motivated to win than we were. It's really that simple. I will hand you that without equivocation - IF you win. I'm still pedaling my butt off (and developing great thighs in the process). I will be adding 4 more riding days to my normal training schedule (which is a big deal for me) because I don't want to lose! If we win this challenge, it will be because we worked our asses off for the victory. Same for the men. Edited to just keep this short and simple, and avoid any further misunderstanding with one of my favorite BTers. Seriously. Edited by Renee 2005-06-24 1:28 PM |

Veteran 293 The Emerald City | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Good news Goddesses! Went to see the doc this morning. (He's a former triathlete) He says that I sound better and said I can go out for a light ride, "But don't over do it". Yay. My hubby says he will go with me to make sure that I don't stray from doctor's orders. So this evening I will log a few more miles in for the team. Go Go Goddessess! Side bar: I was worried about not training for my first Tri in 2 weeks, but the doc assured me that since I've been training for almost a year, these last fews days on the couch shouldn't matter and I will be fine for the event. As long as I don't push too hard and have a relapse between now and the race. I was so worried, but now I feel better about it. |

[thinks hard] Bluto: the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] Bluto: What the fuck happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer... Otter: Dead! Bluto's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. Expert 997 North Central WV | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Hey Tania, I wasn't having a shot at you at all and I am sorry if I made you feel that I was. I think it is awesome that everyone is getting in to this so much. No, I just think that if we have a goal oriented comp., then the points should be awarded on that basis. Otherwise we should have just done a total number of miles thing and all tried to out-ride the other team. I feel a little cheated out of the thrill of reaching my goal. I guess I should have read the instructions more closely. I made commitment to this challenge based on a fairly tight training schedule which would allow me to meet my goal by the end of the month. And, don't worry, this isn't wrist slashing-type disturbing - I love challenges and I have no problem donating to charities. It doesn't help that the weather here is sensational and I have been tapering the past two weeks which means shorter rides than I am capable of. Big sigh - oh well, I am off to get a diet coke. I will pretend it has some JD in it :-) |

Elite Veteran 781 | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses Flounder: May I have 10,000 marbles, please? Look, probably because we are all waaay too tightly wound, the challenge seems to have lost some of its fun. The reality is that one of the two teams will come up shorter than the other, hence my Animal House quotes. That movie and the above quotes make me laugh. If we win, great! I'm contributing to a good cause and I will have ridden more miles in a month than I've ever ridden in my life. If we lose, I'll take some good natured ribbing, but I'll contribute to a good cause and I'll have ridden more miles in a month than I've ever ridden in my life. In these last few days, both teams need to find a way to take it back to the fun level and applaud people working to meet their goals so people will continue to sign up for these sorts of challenges. I love, love, love the notion that we're contributing to good causes while challenging ourselves. I hope that never changes. Goddesses or 'Bones, Let's Do It! But, mostly Goddesses. |

Don't feel bad Malgal...that's the way I understood it to be too, until the last couple of days. You are not alone Still, seeing the ladies really push themselves with only one "rider down"...it's awe-inspiring! Mal, think how you are going to ROCK in your 1/2 on the bike leg. Tania is going to sing a song all the way across Iowa (beer in hand, of course!) after encouraging us to do our best ~ along with our "fearless leader" Renee. Nikki accomplished a goal she wasn't sure she could, as did many of us (singsong voice here: "POSSUM'S NOT A SLACKER!". As for myself, I can't WAIT to see how I do on the bike leg of my 1/2 in July after some rest - I have to admit I'm feeling tired after this month of riding and trying to run too and babying my STUPID shoulder. We'll all be stronger riders after this month. And to be honest, there are LOTS of GODDESSES on this forum that I probably would never have corresponded with if it weren't for this contest! Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Team Gear Goddesses I had a very busy day...daylight fading..feeling crappy all day...actually all week...feel like quitting my job...but as a Goddess I put on my Goddess Gear and hit the roads as the sun was setting. Riding is so great..clears my head...relaxing...feels good. This challenge has been great for me...I could have blown off today, but as a Goddess knew I had to get out there. Pace continues to increase. I did a brick off the bike and for the first time paced under a 10 min/mile...I'm usually a slug. Even on the track I don't run 10 min/mile...I"m getting better...watch out athenas...I'm moving a bit faster...I'm resting tomorrow and tri'ing on Sunday so there is another 12 plus a Tri Thursday-12, plus a ride on Tuesday...aiming for 220 miles. With two Tris 5 days apart plus I'm old, I need to be careful on doing to much. I'm at 172.12/200 or 87%. |

"Nike is Victory. She is often seen in company of Athena, who never puts up with defeat. Victory is the result of achieving the aim pursued, and is not limited to battle or sports. Success is victory. Victory is doing the hard thing because it is right instead of the easy thing. " |

I could be nasty and say major sandbag job. But I don't know the guy's cycling background so maybe 50 miles in month was a big deal for him. He's over 80 miles, and probably can hit over 100 before the end of next week. Being the psycho mileage maniac I am, 50 miles is one day for me. Keep up the good works ladies!!!!! You gals rock!!!! Even though I'm not in the challenge this month, I'm trying to do as many miles as I can despite missing a bunch of days that I'd normally be riding. I love it! |
