OH man.....favorite running route....that's tough because I'm still not that big of a runner.  There's a route from my home town that goes out across a long flat bridge that has a large bay on each side and then onto an island with lots of parks, beautiful homes I could never afford and then back across another bridge and up a pretty good hill next to a nice golf course and back home.  About a 7 mile loop.

I am fortunate to live about 100 yards from Scenic Highway 98 that runs along Mobile Bay.  It is a two lane road with a wide sidewalk running alongside for about 12 miles. I am right in the middle.  If I go north from the house much of the road/sidewalk is covered by a canopy of old oak trees with spanish moss hanging down.  If I take the sidewalk south for about a mile the sidewalk starts running along a bluff overlooking Mobile Bay and through Fairhope, Alabama-a very picturesque town.  The sidewalk ends at the Marriott Grand Hotel in Point Clear, AL-a beautiful property with a marina and tons of waterfront.  The shade along the road provides a nice, but minimal, break from the summer heat.  Only downside is the concrete sidewalk.

My son is a student in Chattanooga and runs cross country for his school.  They run in some amazing venues and I have had the chance to run several great trails in that area.  We love going to Chattanooga and if you are looking for a 3-4 day vacation spot you may want to check it out.  Beautiful downtown area along the river with an outstanding aquarium, good restaurants, lots of great trails and a really active "outdoors" community.

Sounds like a great place to run!

I run a 7 mi loop along the Fox River. Hills, winding roads and great scenery - lots of wooded areas along the river. I'll usually see a deer or two and once and a while some wild turkey. The route passes two paper mills. One mill has a radar gun and display set up to remind motorists to slow down. It'll pick me up when I pass by and remind me to SPEED UP!

Another favorite route is a 3 mi loop which covers most of the small town I live in. Scenery...eh. But I pass a pizza restaurant at mile 1, a Chinese restaurant at mile 2 and then a place known for their broasted chicken at mile 3. Running this route close to dinner time...THE BEST!

Not exactly Runner's World Rave Run routes. I wish I traveled more and had the time to get out and run in different areas. There it is...my challenge/goal for 2010!

Morning all!  I wanted to share that I am officially an uncle.  My niece Alex May, 10 lbs, 8 oz of pure linebacker was born on Friday.  She's a cute "little" thing for sure.

On the other hand....I had two horrible workouts this weekend and am hoping this week will prove to be better!

Have a great day!

First race of the year this weekend. Doing the Badger State Games, planning on the 5k trail run. Haven't done enough snowshoeing or skiing this year so I think I will stick with the running, that is if my neck is better by then.

Thanks everyone for the congrats.  I PR'd the race on Sunday which was HUGE since I had raced20 miles the weekend before.  And yep I won the series.

Now I get to focus on Boston.  I raced 6 races in the last 2 months and this is supposed to be the OFF season!  Funny...10 weeks until Boston and I am more relaxed than I have been than I have been in the last 2 months.

I also registered for 2 duathalons and 1 triathalon.  Those will be my first multisport races!

On another note...who has a trainer? I have a cycleops and I am having a tough time using it. I go so much slower than I do outside?   Also I just had my bike fitted but I think the handlebars are too low. I don't mind having them low to race but for training?  I would like to be able to rest my arms but I don't have aero bars. Should I get clip ons?

I started out with a cycleops and a couple years ago I moved up to the computrainer. Since the winters are so long I do a lot of biking in the basement. You should put something under your front tire to raise it up a little, maybe that will help with you feeling too low.My first bike was a road bike and I had clip ons put on to them, they work great and I still use that bike in the basement. Your LBS should be able to help you with that.

I have the block that came with the trainer and there are 3 differnt "slots" I can put my tire in.  If I put it in the highest it will probably help but won't I be going up hill?

I think a slight up hill is good. Also you have to remember that your back tire is off the ground too, so you might not be a high as you think.

When I got into all of this a year ago I looked at trainers/rollers etc.. as I knew a good bit of my training would be indoors.  Bought the E-Motion rollers from Inside Ride and they are great.  Easier than traditional rollers but more road feel than typical trainer.  Speed effort is pretty consistent with riding on the roads maybe a little harder.  Great product for anyone looking for training options.

Lisa,

Do you have the measurements from your fitting?  What is your drop (top of seat to top of handle bars)?  Also, when you are riding on the trainer, what part of your arms start to hurt first?  I wouldn't get aero bars or clip-ons yet.  For two reasons, first being that you need to get used to the fit and secondly your bike was fit for you without aero bars.  A lot changes when you put them on there.  I would give it a couple weeks.  Really focus on spinning with consistent pressure on each pedal.  I'll make a deal with you, if you make me a fast runner, I will make you a fast cyclist!!!

I can try to figure out that measurement. The guy who fit me is supposed to be one of the best. And it might be that I do just need to get used to it. He completely changed almost all of the settings on my bike.

My arms don't hurt so much as I don't feel  like I have enough power - of course that could just be that I don't

Anything I can do to help with your running just let me know!

Getting better. Skipped my bike ride this morning, Sundays bike ride made it hurt again so I thought I would hold off in the biking until after my race on Saturday.

Explain what you mean by not enough power.  Are you comparing to before you got the bike fit, or is this just in general?  If it's just in general, you probably want to just pump up your back tire, adjust the tension on the roller and/or lower your gear.  Your problem may be that you want to bike as fast has you run....because that's EXACTLY my problem.
