@Rob- Great race report. Glad to hear you edged out your brother! Cool to hear that your dad competed also.

@Christy- Best of luck this weekend!

In regards to ART. I use a foam roller, and The Stick

I can't tell you at how much (with consistent use) this helps me.

The stick link didn't work.  What is it?

@Randy-Thanks.  I'm not sure if it's any better or not.  I'm going to keep icing it and stay off of it as much as i can.

Hey Christy, I would just ice the knee where you're feeling pain, not the entire IT band. That needs blood flowing to it and stretching. Sorry if I implied otherwise.

I should have that document for you tomorrow. I couldn't find the electronic file, and I unfortunately left the hard copy at home today. D'oh!

Hi guys! I got a really good, tough bike ride on the trainer in last night. I was doing some pedaling work, intervals of Right Leg 1 min x Left Leg 1 min x Pedal 2 mins, and found it very challenging on my road bike (I only have done this before at the stationary bike at the gym).

I apparently have a lot of weak spots in my spin. Anybody really good on the bike and want to offer some tips on correcting weaknesses in your pedaling?

I found that at the top of my rotation, my momentum comes to basically a halt and then I kick the pedal down and it's a very loud and jarring motion. I tried to make it smoother but had to pedal SUPER slow in order to achieve a smooth movement.

Still using with cages on the pedals, and per our discussion the other day I already know that clip-ins would lead to a more efficient stroke. But surely there's more to smooth pedaling that that?

It looks like my tri could turn into a run/bike/run.  Not good news for my knee and hip.  I'm pretty upset about it.  Cross your fingers the ducks stop pooping in the lake and they let us swim Smile

"Duck poop"!!! That stinks! Sorry, could not help it....too easy.  Seriously, hope that the situation with the lake gets better along with your ITB.

Funny, Randy.  I'm not sure it's really the duck poop.  The ecoli levels are unsafe.  Not sure what level of ecoli is safe...but if we swim, i'm keeping my mouth closed at all costs.

slornow - 2011-05-17 2:39 PM Rob-great race and race report!  Which Ironman are you going to do?

Randy

Randy, thanks, going to do the Great Floridian in Clearmont, it's not an Ironman race but is same distance.  The Ironman's that I wanted to do this year were all full, and I want to do one this year.  I have the base, need to continue on.  I'm not getting any younger.

Rob-should have asked ..What Ironman distance race are you doing?  If you can do the 140.6 you are an "Ironman" in my book regardless of the race label!  Looking forward to following your journey.

Randy

thanks Randy, yes I am going to do the Great Floridian  Full Ironman 140.6.  I am still going to get the Ironman tattoo after the race    : )

I have a dumb question...

I'm following someone who is doing the Ironman Texas right now... They keep calling this a Ironman 70.3. I thought the 70.3 and 140.6 is the total distance of the race? Isn't 70.3 a HIM?

I give you full permission to laugh at me, but I really am confused!

Along with my silly question.. I have a vent!

I'm tired, I'm sore, I get up at 7, get dressed, head out to the trails to do some riding...... the trails are closed. I go to the other side to park at a church where I can still pick up the trails, it's just a mile and half or so away... there is some event going on, so they have that side closed off too!! It must be a 10k or 5k run. I saw all these cyclists lined up at the entrance to the trails just hanging out, which ANY other Saturday I'd go hang with them, but today I have to be somewhere at 11, so I didn't have time to wait. Not to mention, for the first time since January it looks like it might actually rain, so any hope of me going out later may not be possible.
Really REALLY frustrating.

I'm already 1 week behind on training for the next tri, which means I have to step it up over the next couple weeks to catch up. Grr.

I'm pretty sure the one today is a full IM.  They also have a half (70.3) in Texas.  More than one I think.   But you're right, 70.3 is a half.  But I think today's is a full 140.6.

That stinks.  I hate when it feels like everything is against you.  I'll cross my fingers it doesn't rain and you can get out this afternoon.  From what I've read you don't need to "catch up" on missed workouts.  I could be wrong.  I had a lot of messed up weeks early in my plan (sick kids).  I decided to not use my recover weeks when they were scheduled. I used them when i had other things pop up.  Not sure if that would help you.  Be careful of doing too much just to get caught up.  You don't want to over do it.

I should be racking my bike and picking up my race packet now.  My family is not cooperating with me.  My 4 year old did a face plant on the playground yesterday so she has road rash all over her little face.  She is pretty grumpy and can't be away from me.  My son is just an all around crazy guy and my husband is angry his plans for the weekend got canceled because of my race.  Not sure what I should do.  I'm feeling really guilty about having "me time" when everyone is so upset.  I love the extra stress Smile

Karla,

I've had a week of frustration, too. I know how you feel. Our club pool has been shut down for several days, someone poured a toxin in it! Then, we've had rain, so no bike or run unless I do it inside which I hate!  I have my first open water June 5th and can't seem to get a break.

Hopefully, both of us will be able to catch up here soon. Good luck!

Christy, Enjoy your "me" time and know that you are also staying healthy and strong for your family. I know it's hard with little ones, and hopefully your husband got over his "mood" to support you! We're rooting for you!

Sounds like everyone is having a tough Saturday.  Me too.  Had planned on doing a 40 mile bike but about 8 miles in I hear a big "bang" sounds like a gun going off.  It was my front tire...the sidewall was shredded and of course the tube popped.  I dont carry a spare tire so had to call my wife and get her to come and pick up me and the bike.  The tires had alot of miles on them but I dont recall running over anything.  I was running same pressure....Maybe it was just the tire's "time".

Went ahead and did tomorrows long run today.  Will change the tire/tube and try again tomorrow.

Anybody have a "good" workout today?

Karla-some days things just go wrong.  Frustrating, but missing a day mattters little in the big picture of long term training.
