New Haven, CT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED bulfrog - 2011-12-28 8:45 PM Being from NZ you are in the realm of Arthur lydiard, who is probably as much as anyone the father of modern training techniques. You can train by HR on the trainer but I find my HR on the trainer is much lower at the same perceived effort. Personally I think power is better for trainer work.Merry Christmas from NZ everyone, No need for any trans-hemisphere jealousy this week, we are getting hammered by the remains of a tropical cyclone at the moment, so I'm back inside on the trainer again. Hopefully the weather will be on the improve by the weekend so I can get outside for my long ride. All this talk about Heart Rate training has me interested, I tired it briefly, in the middle of the year but didn't stick to it long enough to really give it a chance to work. Seeing as my goal for the year is to build a huge base for some serious racing in 2013 it sounds like I should be giving it another go. So next week I'll do the TT test and work out some cycling zones. (it's ok to do this on the trainer?) However, I'm not confident enough in my calf to run a 30 min TT yet, so is there any other way I can determine my running Zones? Or at this stage can I say that my cycling zones are close enough? |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED My ITBS is pretty much gone too. Every now and again I can feel it get cranky. Usually when I haven't been to yoga or haven't taken the time to get good and stretched out.
Got back in the pool this morning. Back to focusing on my hips staying up and making sure my kick is connected to what my front end is doing.

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 - CLOSED Got this message yesterday on here. Really makes me feel good that my experiences and struggles can help others. Might actually spur me to blog some more. Just been in a funk lately and really don't want to put it all out there. Guess the good with the bad right? Keeping a blog that isn't representative of what's going on with me wouldn't be honest.
Hi Scott, Stumbled upon your blog through this site and just had to let you know that I loved your Aug 16 post about weightloss. Great list and exactly what I needed to hear today. I fell off the wagon in August and started eating whatever I wanted and finding lots of excuses not to workout. Like you, I was a heavy but athletic kid, and I lost a lot of weight after having my own kids because I didn't want to be a fat mom. Your post reminded me that the weight I regained isn't going to come off on its own and it is totally within my control to make it happen. Also helps to be reminded that I will never be cured from obesity. Eating right will always be a life long struggle and I shouldn't beat myself up over slipping up these past few months. Just wanted to say thanks for reminding me of these things. Jackie |

Yes, I was supposed to go and bailed on the boys. This has actually been a crazy week for me. Shaun is in North Carolina with his parents and I forget how much stuff he does for me on a day-to-day basis. I forgot how time consuming things like grocery shopping, making my lunch and dealing with the animals are. Plus to make it worse the animals are in revolt. They usually have Shaun home all day to play with and now that he's gone they see to find some sort of trouble to get into while I'm at work. |

Generally speaking your run HR zones are about 10 bpm higher than your bike HR zones. If you do a bike TT, you should be able to set your run zones by adding 10 bpm to each bike zone. With regard to biking on the trainer, I disagree with Jeff-y, you can definately use HR to train on the trainer (I use HR exclusively -- for me power, like pace is an output to track but its not a guide for training). |

Its the alone on the trainer thing. If I'm climbing or chasing I can sustain watts much better than in erg mode on the CT. I'll be curious to see the results. I think I might be getting close to the point where I'm not endurance limited but rather power limited on the bike. |

Haven't gotten beyond that yet. My guess is that I wold get more intervals thrown into Z1 rides and more Z2 work at the end of every ride. |
