Good Morning Team.

Jenn - great pictures.

Sarah - thanks.

Was in the water again this morning - felt fairly good again. I did not have time to get the entire workout in unfortunately but that is ok, I am making progress. I will say however, I lifted yesterday afternoon and the body was a bit more sore than usual in the pool. However, overall I felt good.

Have a great day team.

Jenny, great pics.  The hubby and I took a long weekend trip to Door County many years ago and loved it.  We know we would love it even more now.

Jen, very envious about your hiking trip.

My first triathlon race is this weekend, I am going in with the attitude of this is nothing more then a training race.  It will be a HIM distance and I will be testing my nutrient plan, new racing outfit and the watch.  It is not my A race so I am not going out there to give it my all but to test what I have accomplish so far and what I still need to work on.  I may not be back on till Sunday.

Happy Training and Racing this weekend everyone!

Jenny - great pics!  I went to Door County last summer for my first HIM.  It's so beautiful up there.

Kathy - good luck on your race this weekend!

I did my long run yesterday am in the cold, wet rain. Bleh Frown It was fine when I started but about halfway through it started sprinkling and ended up raining non stop all day.  Today I'll be doing a short 45min run with some hill work and swimming.  Took my TT bike into the LBS yesterday to get her all fitted up with water bottle cages, etc. in prep for my first race of the season in a couple weeks.  I'll be taking her out for bike/run race rehearsal this weekend!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Kathy - good luck at the race this weekend! Good way to think about it...it's just another training day (half ironman style)!

Sarah - Enjoy testing out your bike and new equipment. I love getting new gear/equipment/stuff for training/etc!

I'm feeling under the weather so I may bag my run tonight

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

I have my first race next weekend, but I am really worried.  It has been a month of no running for me with my quad injury, and I am concerned I won''t be ready for the race next weekend.  I did transition practice with my friend Anna today, and did some short bursts of running, and only had some mild soreness, but no severe pain.  I have been doing all sorts of therapy, rehab, and treatments to help it heal, and have been doing plenty of pool running and increasing my bike and swim workouts to compensate.  Hopefully I'm good for next weekend- it won't be a record breaking race, but hopefully at least I can finish it!

Scott, KTC good luck with your races this weekend too.

Anybody else racing?

Hope everybody else is doing well. I had a 10 mile run scheduled for today but im switching it to tomorrow. Then next weekend is the dreaded day. Is it ok to admit im scared silly?!

Awesome day with friends at Tri Sharks Classic. Sprint went well. 5th in age group. 1:21, down 3:30 from the same course last year.  21 mph plus on the bike in strong winds. Swim was good and fun, but chilly. The run was awesome. Very fast for me.  I love to race!   I attribute a lot of the improvement to lean eating on paleo and strength training with kettlebells with Chris and naturally great bike coaching and overall training plan with Stan Watkins. Swim was better with help from Kevin McCarthy.

KC, how did your race go?  I have to add you to KTC Race team on FB and I think we have to be friends before I add you.  Are you looking for KTC or Kathy Thuneman?

My race didn't go as well as I had hoped but it did teach me to learn to adapt and just go with it.  No matter what you will finish and the finish time is really nothing except something to beat next time.  Race report is finish if you would like to read it.

Jenny, you are doing the right thing and resting, you will do fine on race day.

Looking forward to reading some race reports from this weekend!

Well I had an interesting week as I was super busy with work and the band that I ended up taking 4 days off.  I wasn't too bummed out and figure that I am half way through my training and that my body could use the rest anyways.  It was kind of nice to take a break and I didn't really think much about Ironman or triathlon so it was a good mental break also.  Got my long run in Saturday and a 3 hour ride in today and felt pretty good so the rest worked.

I will catch up tomorrow on everyones posts.  Have a great week!

Good race Scott.

Hope all the other racers had a good event this weekend.

I worked my first Mudathlon this weekend.  After getting it all set up on Friday, I decided to run the course as fast as I could to see how I would do on raceday compared to the other Mud/Obstacle racers.  I did the just under 3.5 miles in 41:02.  3 people beat me on raceday, although in crowds with the course more beat up than when I ran it.  Was really fun to hop the tires, cross streams in the water and on ropes above the water, and go down the 65 foot slide into a stream.

Next event - Chicago 13.1.  Any Chicagoans participating?  I will be at the 1/2 - 5k split on Lake Shore Dr during the race.

Happy Monday to all!

Good Morning Team.

I hope everyone made it through the weekend safe.

Tim - sounds like you had a good rest - that is a great idea.

I had a great weekend and saw some great improvements at my race on Sunday. As you may recall this was my first ever race last year 2011 time 1:47:22 BOP lol. Now, 2012 1:35:54 and I finished 3rd in my age group (made it to the podium LOL) and can officially call myself a MOP'r. Smile. Now I have to be honest and also tell everyone that there were only 4 in my age group - but what the heck, I made it to the podium Laughing.  I saw improvements in everything - especially my swim confidence. All around great race for me. I was also motivated enough to get back on the bike and put in another 90 KM since Sunday is also my long bike day.

I will give more details later but I am in a hurry this morning - run and swim later today.

Be safe everyone.

KC

WTG on the races, Scott & KC!

I had my final race rehearsal yesterday and it went great! MUCH better than the last one I did where I drank old Perform, got cramps and walked most of the run.  Saturday I rode with a couple bike team buddies up to watch the Glencoe Grand Prix crit since we had a few guys racing.  I even ended up running into an old colleague of mine that I hadn't seen in 8 years from State Farm!  None of the guys podiumed but one got 10th and the other got 12th in the Men's Cat 4.

Yesterday was the big day: rode to the first rest stop with bike team and then back to the shop.  Ran from the shop down to the lakefront to the Field Museum and then back to the shop.  Unfortunately my Garmin was dead ( I thought I turned it off after the ride Sat but didn't and when I went to turn it on at the start of the ride yesterday, it was dead) Oh well, I just went by RPE, and was pleasantly surprised.  Got some status from buddies and I ended riding a total of 2:43 45 miles, avg 16.4 mph and then ran about 6.4 miles in about 70 min.  Piddled around a bit on the way back, could've gone faster.  Had some asthma issues about 20 min into the run so I walked for about 15 min but then ran most of the way back minus the stop lights.

Overall, I'd say it was a successful race rehearsal. Riding the TT bike was pretty comfortable although I need to get a water bottle in the front as I only had 2 behind the seat bottles.  Nutrition was good. I was drinking Perpetuem and took 2 gels, one at about mile 15 and then another at mile 22.  I probably could've drank more water though.  My legs are pretty beat today.  Tried running this am...wko called for 15min warm up and then 2x1/2 mile @ threshold pace...I could only do about 2 miles total and that was even a struggle.  Gonna try to do some upper body and core tonight.

Happy Monday!

Sarah - nice job on the rehearsal yesterday.  I have been using the perpetuem with water and find that I do have to drink a decent amount of water especially with the gels.  If it helps this is what I have been doing and plan to do:

  • Aerobottle for H20.  I find that if I have it staring in my face I will drink it.  I plan to just use hand ups of water and just keep that filled as much as I can.
  • I have tried the 3 hour bottle and 4 hour bottle of Perpetuem and will probably go with the 3 hour mix seeing as that there will be a lot of time after I mix the first bottle- but I will go with a 3 hour mix on my down tube and frozen 3 hour bottle on my seat cage.  The other bottle will be Perform just in case I wanna change it up a bit - should be ok because I have trained the whole time with it.
  • The plan is to take a gel about every 40 minutes.  I had a gel incident on Saturday where it got all over my forearm and aerobottle and was a sticky mess so I think I am gonna get the hammer gel bottles and just fill them.
  • I am also gonna keep a baggy with 3 hours of Perpetuem mix in Special Needs just in case I lose a bottle somewhere.

I am finding the Pereptuem nice seeing as that all I have to worry about is drinking my water.  I would highly suggest some type of aerobottle like you said and I think you will be fine.

Haven't figured out the run yet but I am thinking a starting off with a different flavor 1 hour bottle of Perpetuem then using Hammer Gels and living off the course.

Hi team.  I am back.  Phew.  It's been a hectic week.  It's only Wednesday.  Good grief.

Well, on the leg front- I ran on Monday for one mile- 9:24 min pace, very gimpy, but minimal soreness.  It is definitely more in the hip than the quad now.  I paid for it later that day.  Now I started seeing a friend who is a chiropractor to see what he can do to help.  He worked with me yesterday and took x-rays- good news, it doesn't appear there is a stress fracture.  I am trying to get an appointment with a massage therapist to get some deep tissue work done on the hip, and hopefully then I can race Saturday.  I need to race.  I have been practicing my transitions, and mastered the art of keeping my shoes clipped in and sliding my feet in the shoes while I am pedaling.  I am excited to race.  I have some frustrations to let out on the course.  94 days till IMWI.

Happy Training,

Jenny
