Samantha, I hurt my elbow pitching (baseball) when I was 11, and back then we just suffered it out but I remember not being able to move my arm for 6 weeks.  Then years of bass fishing, casting 1,500 times per day for years, didn't help!  Then I started lifting weights and going heavy (dumb) still strains my elbow.  Now I use my mouse on the left of my computer instead of the right.  Yes it still gives me lots of problems when I play baseball with my son or feel good and go heavy in the gym.  Ev en riding my bike huts it when it is inflamed...along w/ swimming.

My problem is on the outside, not inside of my elbow, the big tendon you can feel.

Quick recap on this morning's Half Marathon:

I posted a short race report.

My IT Band tightened up on mile 4. The run consisted of three loops on the bike path. Each loop coming back caused discomfort on my right knee, I know the bike path is uneven and am wondering if the ground was lower (drainage) and therefore I struggled with each lap? Once my knee tightened up I concentrated on running easy and enjoying the scenery. Perhaps I should have stopped all together, but I could not bring myself to do that.

Around mile 9, my body ran out of fuel. Flying cross country the day before, not getting much sleep the two nights prior and not eating/fueling enough caught up to me - I know that is exactly what happened. I didn't beat myself up about it though. The mere fact that I flew across the country with two little munchkins and basically had a 22 hour day on 3 hours sleep and still made it to the race location to run 13.1 miles, is more than many would consider doing.

My total run time - 2:06:56.

Hey, all I can say is awesome job getting that run done with!  I think that 2:06 is certainly respectable given the circumstances.  Nice job!  Now go enjoy the vacation!  And remember to massage and stretch those IT bands.

Dina, congrats on the biking...lol

As far as brands, I get whatever is on sale.  We normally get coupons for 25% off a CVS drug stores if ya'll hve them up there.  It does get expensive but I have gotten it at the vitaminshoppe which is on-line and in town.  Any pharmacy has them just be sure they have the 3 ingredients.

Again, I am not recommending it but I use it....but I'm old too!!!

Thanks Karl. I love CVS. I might just give this a try!

How is the puppy?  What is his/her name?  How is the poty training going?

Hello everyone.  As Dirk already mentioned I tend to stay away from computers when I'm not at work and I've been on vacation since the Friday before Christmas.  I have read up quite a way, through page 10 I think but if I wait until I get completely caught up to post, I might actually never post!

Jen, you are asking about Nationals....I am fairly confident in saying that qualifying for it is NOT an opportunity you won't have again.  If the experience appeals to you, then by all means do it.  If you would prefer to do nationals some day, but not this year then you will surely qualify again if you stay committed to triathlon.

To the Dad to be:  I went through exactly your scenario.  After the birth of our 3rd child my ex-wife went from part-time to full-time Mom.  Every one is different, but when she became a full-time Mom it didn't lighten the load on me at all.  After a night short on sleep and a solid 10 hours with a baby your wife will likely be hoping you will give her a few hours break rather than be out training.

Definitely discuss it with her and don't make the mistake of thinking her days at home are any easier than her days working outside the home.

See if you can take your child with you to the gym?  My YMCA's all have child care, even for 6 week old infants.  If you were to go in for a workout and could take your baby, your wife would love that. (except sometimes with the 1st child especially parents don't want to leave them in the care of strangers)

http://i1297.photobucket.com/albums/ag23/jyeager5/photo1_zpsb5fa82d9.jpg

My daughter had a pretty bad coolant leak and couldn't afford the repair bill.  So this is what it takes to replace a radiator on a Jetta.

I took a day off from training to do this for her...so she knows I love her!!

X3, great job Jen for hanging in there and toughing it out especially considering all the circumstances. You'll look back o this race and appreciate it more since you had to tough it out to finish. That 2:06 is 3 minutes better than my best at the HM I was healthy for the two I ran lol.

Karl what brand of glucosamine do you buy? Thanks for the recipe!

I finally got my Garmin speed/cadence sensor to work! So I did the spinnervals threshold test on TR. Now I feel a little sick to my stomach LOL. My legs felt fine during the workout but my HR was way up there for me on the bike - 180 was the highest I think.  I have numbers, I don't know what they mean but I have some none the less . At least I will have a platform to work from now. My 20 min test - FTP 176, LTHR 163.

Now I guess I should pick a plan.

Dina nice work, glad to see that you got everything working. Now you can pick a nice plan and join the suffer festivities that the rest of us are enjoying with the winter cycling programs.

Jo63 - 2013-01-02 7:56 AM Dirk interesting article thanks. Dina thanks for the motivational quote! Sam congrats on 100 runs in 100 days that is awesome, and Iam happy to hear you are feeling better hopefully the elbows will get better soon. Karl congrats on your run challenge too! Margie goes for her MRI on the 7th so we will know more after that. Matt I hope you are feeling better today after your too much fun new years ! Jonathan, which HIM is your wife doing? Sorry to hear about the sweat/ surgery thing Bhargavs I hear you on wanting to run faster I have actually gone back to rebuilding my run starting with the walk/run program I hate it but I know it is what I need to do. Don't try to go to fast to soon it will backfire on you. Jen awesome time especially since you were not 100% congrats So after your suggestions I went to purchase a cadence sensor and they are sold out so I will have to wait a couple weeks. I am up .2# yesterday was our last holiday get together so today begins a new day! I have 50 min with Jorge an 20 min run and strength training today. So I signed up for the Kona lottery yesterday seeing as the original goal was to make it the year I turn 50...by the way I am now in a new age group but I checked and these women are just as fast as the 44-49 yr olds lol. I know I need to rebuild like I said, but a goal is a goal. And who knows if I get in I will definetly train differently for me this one is about being able to get there this year.

JoAnne good luck with the Kona lottery. The thought crossed my mine to enter it just so I'd have a better chance in the future drawings. I believe they weight the lottery so those who've entered it in the past have a the better chance then those who may be doing it the first time. In any case how cool would that be for you to get picked this year.

I saw this on FB and wondered what in the world was going on.  Did you replace the heater core while you had the ENTIRE car apart?  I have done one heater core in a for a 91 GMC Jimmy several years ago and I will NEVER do another one.  They SUCK to replace!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, but at least I don't have to replace the heater core.  I've never done that and hope I never have to.  I have removed the dash from my '70 GTO (years ago), but haven't put it back in yet.  That's a lot of work!  It would be twice as much in a newer car.

Junkies-

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just doing a quick check-in. Since we are on vacation in Cali, I do get scolded if found on the computer. Everyone is watching football so I thought I would seize the opportunity.

My total run time - 2:06:56.

great race, especially with the lack of sleep and other difficulties. I think with the race being 3 loops I would had difficulties starting a new loop with those issues!

Okay, I need to limit my internet browsing (including this forum.)  The clicking around (and typing, while we're at it) just is not doing any good to my tendons.  Literally, I can feel my tendons in a way I shouldn't be feeling them with the clicking of the mouse and with typing.  I think this makes it sound like it's bad- it's not THAT bad, but still, I think the little things are adding up which just prolongs the issue.  SO, (we'll see how this goes, but!) I am making a conscious decision to stop the clicking of the mouse and typing unless necessary for a few days!  So, I am going to attempt to sign off here for a bit!  This sounds a bit dramatic, but... Smile
