Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That sounds how I ended up with my 2 stress fractures in my foot. I was running and it was a little uncomfortable, didnt hurt when I walked and the longer I waited it just got worse and worse. Maybe your shoes are too tight but I would still be very cautious. Your feet swell when you run but I don't know too much about it. |

I am getting frustrated with trying to get all the training in. I am in the last couple weeks of the quarter and the time it takes is maddening. The fact that I havent been to the store to replace my cycling shoes really cut training that out. I am hitting the pool tomorrow and I am going to try and run at the park. I am gonna take the pooch and get her some exercise, she is getting fat like me lol. I was looking at getting her some of those boots for the trails due to all the rocks and hot surfaces and also maybe one of those leashes that tie around my waist. Does anyone here have any good tips on how to keep her focused on the run instead of trying to chase everything lol. I know that I am slow and that is not helping as she just looks at me like "WTF dude I am barely moving". Trust me. There are a many of us in this group like that. It doesn't get any easier. Easrly morning/lunch-hour/ late-night workouts become the norm |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kkcbell I suggest keeping cap and goggles on until you have the top half of your wetsuit OFF. Otherwise they can get stuck in your sleeves or I guess your armholes (if sleeveless). While you are running you should be stripping your wetsuit down as far as you can, and when you get to your bike shimmy it down your legs and then step on it side to side to get it off (think 4-year-old girl removing tights). If it's stuck on your ankles sit down quickly if you must, but while you are down put on your bike shoes. As part of your pre-race transition checklist, make sure your shoes are OPEN and your bike is in an EASY gear. That's what I would add to the T1 strategy...! And I will say that practice makes perfect. My first season doing tris we would set up T1 (minus the bike) outside of the lake and after every OWS we'd go through T1 as fast as possible, even if we weren't biking (we usually weren't). We'd just bring along our helmets/shoes/shades/towel, etc. to execute it all quickly. Agree I had pulled my goggles off and then strung them back around my neck to take the top half of the wetsuit off and that is how I ended up with Swim goggles for a full tri. If you leave them on until you have the top half of your wet suit off you're "probably" not going to forget to take them off in transition |

Remember the reason's you started doing this in the 1st place. It wasn't because you wanted to win the race, it was because you wanted to make a change in your lifestyle! AND YOU ARE DOING THAT!!! Family ALWAYS comes 1st! School, work, etc... THEN TRAINING! This is suppose to be fun, and non stressful. And I am actually going to disagree with Trevor a little and say that it does get easier. It goes from being a CHORE to a lifestyle. You don't do things because you HAVE TO DO THEM, you do things because you WANT to do them. Hang in there. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() SSMinnow - 2010-06-24 12:22 PM I hate to hear the word pinpoint. Can you locate the exact spot of pain? If you push on it what happens? if you jump on it what happens? A precursor to a stress fracture is a stress reaction...... LOL - you started it! :-) Okay, the "EXACT" spot is: ![]() See the outer circle? That's the "area" that it *was* painful (keyword= WAS). The inner circle is where it had hurt the most. It feels like pins and needles when I land on it, and only when I'm running. I'm not a heel striker - I'm more of a whole foot striker. Heel doesn't hurt at all. It feels like the ball of the foot has no support at all, like I'm running barefoot on asphalt with no callous. Since I replaced my shoes, I haven't had that issue except feeling like my foot is tilted to one side (the PM I sent you), so I think a better support for that foot is in store. The other foot is perfectly fine. I'm wondering if my club feet has anything to do with it - I was born with them, so when I was 2, the doctors had to break both of my ankles and align it right. I can see why you're concerned, after all you had a stress fracture and it's not a joke. A friend had a stress fracture and had issues for about 8 months, and had to quit triathlons all together...and she's just started to get back. Edited by CyborgQueen 2010-06-24 5:06 PM |

It goes from being a CHORE to a lifestyle. You don't do things because you HAVE TO DO THEM, you do things because you WANT to do them. Hang in there. I really want to start running in the mornings but man 6 AM is just super early for me. I agree - for me it's a total lifestyle change. Do you see me doing blazing fast speeds? No. It came with time and determination. If you are doing this because you want to increase your fitness, that's exactly what you're doing. So, who cares if you're missing workouts. You're better than those who are stuck on the couch all day! :-) If you feel like you're having a set back...just take a recovery week, and take it easy. Focus on your family, focus on doing errands that you need to do (such as playing with your dog, getting the proper cycling shoes, etc), then you can come back into training with more spirit. Look at me...I had a not-so-great recovery week, and I needed it...and now this week I did it with a bang. :-) I have a dog, and she's a runner...but she is a lousy running partner so I don't run with her for my training. She likes to chase cats, and does get distracted at times. Unless if your dog is well trained, I wouldn't recommend using your dog as a bona fide running partner. Maybe once in a while, sure, but not all the time. To help me run with her a little - I take her to the dog park, the biggest one in town (seriously...1 acre!?), and I CHASE after her. If I get tired before she does, that wasn't a great workout...if she gets tired before me, that's a successful workout. Throw the ball - you're stretching your shoulders. Bend over and roll around with your dog - that's squatting exercises...see...it's awesome to think about the little things. :-) As for your morning runs...dude...need I say it? HTFU!! |

LOL! I was thinking of pinpoint, like a "specific" area..not "thumbnail pinpoint". :-) Besides, that has been resolved since I bought the new shoes. Way more support/cushion in that area. I will go for one more run (it doesn't hurt, it just 'feels' weird), and see if I'm still feeling that tilting feel on the left foot. It's possible that it's from my gym track as it is sorta running on a bank...bend? what's the word (like a race car tracks where the outer is just a little bit higher than the inner). I just realized that....I ran mostly in the middle. No worries! Tomorrow will be outside, at 7am when the park opens. OKay 'nuff about my foot. I wish everyone a GREAT race this Saturday! Nothing special for me, just a long run and long ride. |

TOnight is park night for me and my dog, she is a great running partner if it is just me and her most of the time, well not most of the time but I love her being with me. I will say that she has improved slightly since we started. Try this one..... http://www.kvsupply.com/KVVet/productr.asp?pf_id=81272&0=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D9000%26Tree%3D%2CCompleteCatalog&1=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D10000%26Tree%3D%2CDog&2=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D10600%26Tree%3D%2CCollars,%20Leads%20%26%20Harnesses&3=dept.asp%2Cdept_id%3D10603%26Tree%3D%2CNylon&refcode=NEXTAG&URLCheck=1 That would be perfect, should I get a saddle bag for her to carry my water too? lol I may get that leash, I didnt even know they made those until I seen a guy with two perfectly trained dogs running with one. |
