DDVMM - 2011-10-09 4:00 PM Did my longest ride to date!!! 50 miles in 3 hours with a tri group. I thought it was going to be 30-35 miles like the last couple of rides I have done with them. They changed things up last minute. Got my first flat tire also! It was a great ride, nice people. I'm stoked to know that I CAN ride for that long!!!

Nice job!

Ran the half in 1:58.  I'm pretty happy with that, though I would have loved to hit 1:55.  It was absolutely beautiful this morning - temp was perfect and course was awesome.

Pretty banged up though....most of the race was on a trail and my foot hit a rock around mile 11.  Ankle did a flipflop (arch hurts now) and strained my calf.  I may need a couple days off to let it all heal.  Perhaps I'll dust off my bike

Lots of running to do this winter.  LOTS.  I want my HM time to be sub-1:50 in a year, and I'm hoping that with lots of hard work I can get there.

Thanks for all the support, friends!

Great job Jen.  Take some time to rest and let the foot and ankle recover.

Good job racers and other Jeff for getting off your arse in the happiest place on earth.  Swim waves for Austin are up.  Men 30-34 L-Z are the last wave out.  Ugh.

More rabbits to chase on the bike and run.  Also, you'll have tons of pace booty.

I hate starting first as I get passed by about half the field on the bike and the rest of the field on the run.  Course clutter is not as big a deal as people make it out to be.

I like the more rabbits to chase idea.  I'm more worried about the heat.  Oh well, it's Texas, gonna be hot either way.

Is it possible to go from a 1:58 HM to a 1:48 HM in 12 months if you average 35-45 miles for a better part of that year?  I want my goals to be realistic.  I pretty much never miss a workout unless it's an emergency or I'm deathly ill or injured.

Hell, you could drop 20min no problem if you do it right with that mileage.

Would I have to do more race-specific running?  Speedwork?  I'm definitely going to add in more hills, because I have some strength issues I need to work out.

Yes. If you seriously avg 40 miles a week for year a you will do 148 no problem.

I think you have blow a 1:48 in you (especially with that mileage).  1:48 is still in the 8s.

x2.  Run often, run consistently.  If you have imbalances fix them.  At some point speed work will help, but you can get to a 1:40ish time w/o it in my opinion.

From Carrie w/r/t the Chicago Marathon:

A PR by about 6 minutes, but similar result as fox valley for different reasons. Signed up for the 5:45 pace group (3:1 ratio). She started us at about a minute per mile too fast. She dropped out to the bathroom at mile 2 and I took over pacing til mile 8 or so.  Garmin wasn't working again (or the HR monitor) so I kept us accidentally a 1 minute per mile to fast. Thankfully the pacer showed back up at 8 but I was blown up... Got dizzy going to the bathroom. Was soaking myself in water all day. Walked for a but, got myself back in it, but then battled with calf and foot cramps from mile 9 on....Oh yeh, and I was literally running out of endurolytes until a friend who jumped in to run with me at 18 told me to open the pills and dump them on my tongue to absorb faster.. it's the only reason I lasted!!!
