Hello Everyone!!

Yes I'm still alive out here, LOL.  Brodie my 9 month old has been hitting milestone after milestone or seems that way anyway.  He's crawling and standing on his own, trying to break teeth, all and all just very very active.  I've been running like a mad man but that has been about it.  As for my tri in June I'm just going to play it by ear and see how I feel on race day and pray that there are still openings if I do decide to go do it.  I am planning an off road tri in August.  I have my half mary coming up on the 18, I'm pretty excited b/c when I don't run with the stroller I have a great pace, though I must say having the stroller is kind off nice I have everything I need right there!!! food, water, clothes, you name I probably look funny going down the road!!! I hope that everyone is well and Training, Training, Training!!! I hope to get back into myself...

Hi everyone,

I am in desperate need of a bike.  I don't have a huge budget (around $300) and when I went to the bike store, I almost had a stroke when the salesperson was trying to sell me a $1000 bike.  Can anyone provide suggestions?  I also don't want to purchase a bike solely for the sprint trialthon.  I want to have a dual purpose bike that I can use for the race but also for using the paths and trails around my house.

Thanks! I hope everyone is still training away!

I got my road bike on sale and just payed a monthly payment on it till it was paid off and then I bought different componets like airobars, clip pedels, etc...  Know I have a nice road bike that I've had for like ever.  Maybe if you a small town dealer they would let you do something like that.  Just an Idea.

Hail off and on all day yesterday, snow and rain between.... did someone shoot the groundhog?  One week of no run = no benefit for the calf 8(.  Limbo land here.

Been sick now for 12 days.  Went to the doc today, after listening to my complaints had my blood O2 levels first checked , 88%.  Not good, no wonder why I've been so fatigued.  Took a nebulizer treatment while there and my O2 levels went up to 98%.  Definitely fighting a chest/sinus infection and bronchitis.  Was told to take it easy the next week.  Loosing another week of training, and am starting to feel the lost fitness.  The "A-race" in June will become just a race to do without high goals.

Brought out my sickness avatar, Bill the Cat!

Just want to check in & say hi to everyone.

I love swimming. Just love it. Swam my first ever 2000 yards in one swim session today. It just feels good to hit a goal.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Who is up next for their Tri? Katimomma May 1st?

Awesome job Robin, I need some of your swim Karma.  Sure wish training was like Carbon credits, I'd trade you some run and bike, LOL!

Ran my first half marathon for the season and my first since I had my son.  I wanted an under 2 hour finish however finished in 2hours.  My first 9 miles I felt great and I would have been under 2 hours but I'm sure b/c of my bad eating habits I got a charlie horse in my one leg that was so painful I was cried all the way to the finish line but I kept running and made it..... I feel great today a little stiff but nothing I can't handle.  I need to seriously eat better I'm terrible I just don't like to eat sometimes and I paid for it yesterday. Lesson Learned, (hopefully).   Know I can't wait for the next race!!!

Happy Monday all, hope you had a nice weekend!!

Grats on the half mary time.  I am confused, however how what you ate and how it is related to your legs.  Care to share your thoughts? At 2 hours you are looking at maybe 2 GU and a 8 oz or so of water unless it was hot for during the race.

It seems like the few days leading up to the race, my eating habits went to eating really well to not eating so well and I noticed I started getting a lot of leg cramps which I must say never really happens to me.  I Know I was well hydrated b/c all I drink is water.  The other thing is I never seem to have issue with my body as I do my breathing and yesterday my pace was prefect for me not breathing hard or anything but man my legs just died at mile 9 which is so unusall for me.  So I guess I blamed it on the not eating well the few days leading up to the race.  Like I had nothing in the reserve.  I have no cramps today and my legs are a little stiff but not really sore and I ate really well after the race and last night.   When my legs hit the wall I had a GU and water and it did seem to help with the energy but not that charlie horse.   I've done 4 half mary's know and 1 marathon so I can start to compare races and the leg cramping yesterday was disappointing.

Congrats on your first race of the season Angie!

I have been REALLY slacking on my training these past 2 weeks.  Not sure what has been going on with me.

I gotta start picking it up though--only 7 more weeks to go.

I've been slacking myself and hoping that know that our weather is nice I can really pick it up.  I'm going to ride my bike to work and hopefully get in the lake for my swims.

Donto I'm happy to hear that you are able to get back into training.  You'll bounce back fast!!

Snowing today... 3 or 4 inches on the ground.  Hopefully spring comes one of these months.  Off to the sports doc tomorrow to get some thoughts on rehab.  Two months to IM.... is going to be a really long day if I can't get in any running before then.  I don't have any bike rides in longer than 75 miles either.  And swimming, well swimming is swimming, it doesn't really matter what I do drill wise or distance wise I will forever be around a 2:00/100 swimmer at any significant distance.  I think it is just one of those Eore days.

Well, went to the sports doc today.  He said I have a calf tear and recommended no running for  1 month.... with CDA 2 months away.   So that will give me 1 month of walk run building before the race.... not ideal.

Looking for input please.

Why doesn't running seem to get any easier?

I have been feeling great with improvements with the swim & bike, but the run just doesnt seem to get any easier.

Any suggestions???

Well, I made it.  I met my goal of finishing without walking and even surprised myself a bit.  I made the whole swim without stopping or switching to a resting stroke and I felt like a torpedo.  I passed so many people.  I felt more tired than I thought I would after getting out of the water, but it didn't slow me down much.  The bike was great and horrible.  We did a two lap course and there was a heavy wind in our face for half of it.  Bike is easily my favorite discipline and I passed a ton of people on this phase as well!  The run was TOUGH.  My brick workouts were nowhere near as intense.  I had some serious dead-legs when I jumped off the bike.  I only passed a few people during the run and I noticed quite a few walkers decide that if that fat dude (me) can keep running, then so can they!  My son and daughter raced me the last 30 yards or so and finishing with them was an AMAZING feeling!  I worked so hard for so long.  I can't believe it's over.  I'm so pumped that I made it, but I don't think I wanna do another one for a loooong time!    Maybe I'll change my mind in a week or two.  For now, I think I'm going to be concentrating on getting ready of the Hotter Than Hell 100 bike race in August.  Thanks for all the help, guys!

Awsome Triathlete.  I doubt you will give up on that feeling.... I anticapate more triathlons in your future.  But after a triathlon is not the time to make those decisions 8).  Take some well earned days off to just relax and be with the family.

Robin, running takes years to get better.  If your logs are up to date you are still in the very early stages of building.  Basically you need to safely build to 25-35 mlies per week, hold that for 6 months to 1 year and then start adding in some harder efforts, like half mile and mile repeats at 5k pace etc.  For my last marathon I peaked around 200 miles per month.  The previous year I peaked around 160 miles per month.  I had a lot of trouble tollerating more than 45 mlies per week and needed to baby step it up from there.  It was really towards the end of my second season that I started to see some big improvement on the run.

Now as for my improvement on the bike and swm... not so much.  So grats on doing better there 8).
