Veteran 265 Puerto Aventuras | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread Hey Trinity, I know there will be cartridges at the expo and you can not fly with them, so best to leave them at home. I, and about another 8 competitors will be staying at the Allegro as well. Would be nice to do the ride together. If someone can post a time or meeting place it would be great. Saludos, Gerry |

Saludos, Gerry Just checked TSA website and you can fly with cartidges, just checkem. They are allowed in 2 different sections: air guns (as long as they are not attached) and compressed gas. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm#5 I'm at the Allegro as well. Flight lands at 11:20 ish. I'm going straight to packet pick up and then to the hotel probably be ready to roll sometime around 3:30-4ish but not sure. If someone else posts a time I will try and make it. |

Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread I'm getting really pumped up for race day. I feel bad for those that got in today. They have ran out of Co2 cartridges at the expo. The expo is also pretty lame compared to those in the states. I was able to get a replacement heart rate monitor. Apparently I managed to leave my garmin at home or it was stolen from my baggage. The weather is looking good for Sunday. Ok, nervous race ramblings are done. Good luck to all racing and I'll see you out there. |

(My Spanish is very weak). Did I miss anything important that would be different than any other race? The free transport from host hotels to race start includes a guest. They will also have free transportation from swim start to downtown for guests. Everything else is covered in the athlete guide. They claim there will be bug spray at all of the aide stations but I plan to pack my own just in case. |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread The pre-race meeting in English was OK. As stated above, race day host hotel transport WILL take guests, but try to let athletes go first. The island will basically be closed for the duration of the bike ride, although there will be transport on the older road. But if you have spectators who want to be in town for the bike finish, they may have to come in early. Also, word is that sun screen will be available, but no one is set to put it on you. |

Planning on doing this race next year and wanted to see the best way to get there coming from Miami. FL. also the easiest/cheapest way to ship the bike. Also whats the closest hotel to transition??? Someone from Miami might know better options, but in order to bring your bike with you, I think you'll need to go via DFW on AA or Houston on CAL/UAL. AA will default to a routing via Cancun and that could put you on a puddle-jumper that may not allow a bike--check this out thoroughly before booking! The closest hotel to the finish line is the Palace, but even closer are the El Cantil Condominiums (pretty reasonably priced compared to the good hotels, also). If you want to be by the start and T1, then I'm guessing Fiesta Americana or the Presidente Intercontinental is going to be the closest. Well, time to go stuff the transition bags and turn everything in... Good luck to all! Mike #2336 |

Bike/Run Gear & Special Foods Bags During athlete check-in you will receive the five gear bags: • Silver: race morning clothes bag • Blue: bike gear bag • Green: bike special foods bag • Red: run gear bag • Yellow: run special foods bag Please pack the correct gear in the appropriate bag and place them in the transition area according to the instructions that follow. Be sure all of your gear is clearly marked with your name and race number. Found the answer |

The food is not that great but the beaches are pretty good and it's not too far from downtown. However, if I ever come back to Cozumel I probably would not stay there again. As far as signing up for the race, I say do it but fly into Cozumel if you can. Getting from Cancun to Cozumel was crazy. The race was great. The most spectator friendly race i've ever done and the most beautiful swim ever. |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread The race was a THRILL. Some wind out on the south part of the island on the bike, but the run was great. Tons of spectator support and frequent water/food stops. I went 12:37! Nailed my swim and bike, but had a little trouble keeping myself going on the run. Planning on eating many cheeseburgers tomorrow. |

Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: IronMan Cozumel : Official Thread My wife told me about a guy that passed out right before the finish line. He probably would have been DQ'd anyways because his family was holding him up. The bad thing is he had plenty of time to stop and take a break and recover. I guess the heat can make you do stupid things. I saw people stopping on the bike and many more getting put in an ambulance on the run. That was enough to keep me thinking straight. Congrats to all of the BT'rs that rocked it out there yesterday. I had an awesome time and will forever remember my experience. |

I did the race and she was my support. She had such a great time she is already trying to talk me into doing the race next year and bringing the kids. The Palace is not an official "Host hotel" but they don't seem to realize it. They have gone out of their way to cater to the athletes and guest. It is located right at the finish line. My wife was able to see me pass through 6 times. The hotel set up chairs and tables on the street and served appetizers, food and drinks during the race. The food here is outstanding. I only had to push my bike a couple hundred yards to get back to the hotel after the race. The thought of breaking down the bike and going for a cab ride would have been painful. I'm sure there are plenty of nice places to stay but if/when we come back, this is where we are staying. |
