PS - I've seen plenty of barefoot runners in the past and thought they were a bit off their rocker, but someone doing THAT course barefoot is full blown certifiable.

21.7 mph actually, but who's counting.

Here are some results that blow me away:

Brian Benda - 4th fastest swim split.  This guy wins every swim he does, including Lake Placid Ironman.

Josh Frick - USA 3x National TT Champion and 7x National Road Race Champion.  He can manage only 7th fastest bike split.

Bjorn Andersson - 8th fastest bike split.  Granted, a down day for him, but also an indication of the strength of the field.

To say this race had some sick performances is an understatement.

Somebody ran barefoot?!?

yeah, i passed some dude about 1/2 mile before the finish line running barefoot!  although, he was off the trail running in the "soft" stuff.  i thought i saw him jam his toes a time or two as well.  i felt kinda bad for him as i passed him a few hundred yards before the approach chute.

Yep - definite barefoot runner.  In one of my more lucid moments, I saw it and thought I was halucinating.  But the look of utter disbelief on the cop's face directing traffic confirmed that what I saw was real.

A few other good savageman memories that seem to capture what the race is all about:

1) Less than 10 year old girl standing in her driveway on big savage mountain cheering on the competitors... wearing a Hooters tee shirt.
2) big collection of horse+buggy Amish (I assume) spectators on Orendorf (I think).

Here's a parting shot of me doing some pre-race animal sacrifice/dance/chant (we had a successful mouse kill in the traps we set in our rental cabin after finding droppings when we arrived)... but apparently the Savageman god's are only appeased by human sacrifice (me on the run).

It was unfortunate to read that there was an issue with the videographer at Westerport.  Do you guys have an idea on how long it takes to get the pictures up?  I think there were more photographers at this race than any other I have seen.  I'm sure there are just thousands of pics to sort.

I felt awful for the guy.  I came up behind him and noticed that the bottom of his foot had what appeared to be a huge gash on it.  That is truly Savage!

Anyone else see the dude decked out in a IM-Moo outfit (he looked like a cow)..I passed him on McAndrews and asked him when did he do the race...his answer was last week!!  Can't imagine anyone throwing SM on top of an IM after one week.  The look in his eyes told the story though..he was hurting as he struggled up the hill.

Passed him on big savage... said "that's a sweet kit" and he had no idea what I was talking about.

Tell me about it!  From what I understand, 10 seconds earlier or later was a bigger train wreck.  You should have photographers in the med tent

I mis-executed big time... I'd actually call it a way worse race even though I PRed by a half hour over my first one (50 pounds heavier).  I take full responsibility for that, but Kyle you bast*rd, that's what your course will do to a 10:20 IMLP finisher from two months earlier.  That's why I say in my RR that this race humbles everyone.

How cool is Savageman?  I did my first half mary back in May and it was tough.

After doing Savageman I told my wife that I had another half marathon in 2 weeks but it was "just a run" so it was no big deal.  She looked at me funny and it clicked to me what I had just said.  LOL

Thanks for putting things into perspective Kyle!  As I go to other events, I will be able to think.."could be worse; it could be Savageman!"

You crossed a few minutes ahead of me and my wife was waiting at the finish for me. She told me later all about this guy who was staggering to the finish line, grabbing on to the blue fence, being rushed of to medical. You made quite an impression.

I dropped to the ground after I crossed and just lay there for a minute. I was so glad to stop moving. There was a little kid with a volunteer shirt on who was "working" the finish line with his mom. As I lay on the ground for a minute or so he asked her, "What happened to that guy." I didn't want him to worry so I told him I was ok and he just looked at me totally straight faced and said "I wasn't talking about you."

I had a score to settle with the course after I ended up crying two years ago at the finish line (all caught on camera by my loving wife).  Came back strong this year and got my revenge.

Josh, I have a feeling that you are going to come back here one day more determined than ever and kick SM and the RD's butt.
