Great job and nice photo, Gloria!

My race report is up too.  I had an 'okay' day.  I'm glad I did the lake swim, and the run was good.  However, both my tires went flat on a rather 'dicey' (the race director's words) road.  I would've DNF'd if there would have been a race vehicle near by but there wasn't so I turned and cycled back to the race start!  I decided to do the run anyway.

I'm glad I kept going but this race will always have an asterisk for me.  When I get the official results, I will post my run and swim times.  I'm not too upset.  I sure learned a lot today!

Good job Tracy, glad you finished out and didn't let the flats stop you !! That takes a lot of heart. Learning from each race is what it is all about .

Great Job Gloria! I like your Finish Picture!!

Tracy, Sorry about the flats! Wow 2 tires!! I need to learn how to change tires & bring the stuff on my races. I think I will!! You never know.

Well, I was so nervous for my first Oly! I kept telling myself that this was for fun and just enjoy the race! So the swim I went long & strong. I felt really comfortable.

For the bike I forgot GU. I was nervous that I would get cramping on the run so I made sure I drank the Gatorade I had. When I passed the 15mile sign my time was 7min faster than Junes Sprint race!! Had about 10miles more & felt strong.

On the run, I didn't cramp!!! I really didn't know how I would finish 6.2miles. After awhile I got into a groove. I ate 2x GU and poured water on myself at every water station - It was hot. On my last mile I was TIRED. I knew I was almost done and just pushed through it.

I can't believe I did it!! 1.5K swim/ 40k bike/ 10k run - WOW!! I like the Olympic distance!!
My race report to follow later. I am going to rest now!

My race report is up with photos. I do not know my times they were not posted last time I checked the race website. I know it was slower than my last tri but I don't care. I finished and that was my only goal this time ! Overall I know I did the best I could for my ability and I learned what I need to improve on that is all that really matters to me right now.

Been without a computer for the last few days as I've been converting our computer room into a nursery (September). Her older brother approves of the lavender and white.

Most of my weekend was spent indoors painting, and I missed out on swimming and running - but I guess these things are going to happen. Also need to update my logs!

Congrats to everyone in their races from the weekend - sounds like the three of you all went through some trials and tribulations, but stuck to it. Well done to everyone!

Along with Caius and Rob, I'm racing this weekend - but I'll be in the States for the whole week leading up to the race and will miss out on training (but I think the Hotel may have a pool).

Caius - IMLP. Best of luck, I really hope you enjoy the experience, and get out there and kick a$$.

Here is my race report:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

I don't have the my ranking or official time yet or pictures - My family was enjoying the water while I was working my butt off. Well, I guess you have to do something for 3 hours to keep my 17mos & 4 y/o daughter busy.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! We left Toronto today and are in Watertown this evening. We thought that we'd split the 8 hour drive across two days so we're heading to LP tomorrow. Not that 8 hours is too long but my wife wanted to stop here to shop at Target.

Well, so far we haven't gone to target but she did make a nice dent in the credit card balance at Bath & Bodyworks, JC Penny, Borders and Victoria's Secret. Tomorrow, comes the BIG shop at Target. Oh my! Oh well, it's the least I can do considering that she has to put up with me. (don't tell anyone but I love shopping at Target as well)

Talk to you all (y'all) soon. I'll do my best to keep you posted on the trip/weekend.

Post up when you get a bib number or anything we can track you by on IronmanTV.

Hey, letting the wife shop/charge at Victoria's Secret is not a bad thing at all!

Good luck, bud!

Question on bike cleaning:

My ride is starting to get a bit grimy. What is the recommended way to clean up a road bike? Garden hose and a bucket of suds? Spray bottle and rag? no water at all? I have been hitting the components with a light degrease and teflon lube, but thats about it.

Thank you! My bib number is 1038. We got into town this evening and are just about to settle into bed. Off for a swim early in the AM.

I usually the bucket of soapy water and hosepipe (as we say down South).  Dry throroughly, ride for a "spell", then dry again.  Light chainlube on the chain and cables.  Good to go.

I would like to find an organic degreaser though for my chains and sprockets.  I think Pedros and others make them, just haven't bought one yet.  I looooooove a shiny, clean sprocket!

Well on Wednesday, Lake Placid was still kind of quite but certainly not today. The town is buzzing with people and you can already feel the excitement in the air.

It all started this morning when I went down to the lake to do a lap of the swim course. There were about 100+ other triathletes there either coming out of the water or about to jump in. The IM folks had a tent set up where you could check in your bags. When you picked it up after your swim they'd give you a bottle of Gatorade. Music was playing and everyone was chatting and laughing as friends reconnected. It was a fantastic atmosphere.

In the afternoon, the main stip was just filled with people walking around, going in and out of stores, etc. In restaurants staff and other patrons would ask others if there were participating in the IM event on the weekend. If you answered yes you immediately received congratulation for just getting here and well wishes for Sunday. It was all pretty neat but to be honest and until I sat down to type this up it really hasn't hit me. Amazing!

I'll try to snap some picks and post them.

Anyone else racing this weekend?  I have a 16 or so mile mtn bike race Sunday morning.  Ordered a sports drink from FirstEndurance.  Supposed to alliveate cramping.  Ha!  I'll definitely put it to the test!  This is the same course as was the Xterra the other week.  Hopefully I'll be home by 12:30 or 1:00 PM to watch some IronmanTV.

Anyone else running a 5K for Christine today?  I ran this morning before work @ 27:14'ish.  Muggy and humid here.  Mid-90's later today.

Taking Mon-Wed off from the office.  Our kids go to wife's sister's every summer for 3 days.  Spouse and I usually bolt somewhere but this year we'll stay home and have a quiet house for 3 days.  Whoo-hoo!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Haven't run for Christine today but I did follow the thread here.  A co-worker has just had his brain tumor removed, and a good friend just had a mastectomy.  Both are doing well but Christine's story has affected me strongly.  I plan to dedicate the 5K in my next triathlon to her.

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!
