Subject: RE: Challenge Chat (aka Nibbs XVII) - come join us :)Spokes - 2008-05-13 6:10 PM Sigh. I wonder how many times I'm going to have to tell people "look, I can't swim and there's nothing that can be done about that" they'll believe me. Jesus. If you don't have the ability, you don't. Its as simple as that. Oh, com'n Scott. It's more a question of 'do you want to swim?' If you don't enjoy swimming that's fine...don't swim. In my case it WAS a matter of 'I CAN'T swim.' At first, I didn't enjoy learning. Open water freaked me out and I reasted on a lifeguard float halfway through the swim. But triathlon has always been on my life list of things I wanted to do. If the desire's there, you'll make it happen. It takes WORK though. I started swimming at 4 min/100 yds 4 years ago. It's taken 3 times a week in the pool and workouts of at least 800 yards (my workouts now range from 2000 - 4000 yds) to get me comfortable with my swim. On a good day, I MIGHT swim a single 100 in 1:40. BUT, if you don't WANT to swim, that is fine. No one is forcing you to swim, and you can STILL hang out on BT and be accepted regardless of whether you ever do a tri. But, I would find it hard to believe that you CAN'T swim... Just an friendly observation... |
