Hi all,
I apologize for being notoriously absent this weekend. No training either. It has been hell in my life since thursday night. I have had my life torn upside down and have been emotionally and physically exhausted by the proceedings. I am hoping to get back on the path tomorrow with a good spin. We'll see.

Thanks y'all.

tempos should be done at 10K pace...close to LT.  Mine are in high Z4- low Z5

Your tri isnt going to be in MOVING  open water- is it???  Find a nice calm lake to practice in.  I loike OWS a lot- I mean A LOT more then pool swimming.

and you will NOT chicken out

You're right! I WILL NOT chicken out! I live right near lake champlain ( I can see it from my house) and there are lots of smaller lakes around here so I will find someone to swim with (once it is warmer and they aren't frozen of course) and I've already asked my dh to kayak with me while I swim. I am hoping I will love it too. I love shot bloks too! and sharkies are also good.

do you have a wetsuit??

Not yet.

Wow! What a great gift Tammy! I hate to say this, but I worried my wetsuit might be to big if I lost some more weight. Mine is a Zoot size large. I would be bummed if I had to buy a new one this year. Mine is only 2 years old. DH put a rip in it though this winter. Cry

So, I am back and ready to train. Gonna run on my lunch today and do some core work! Then I have a swim lesson tonight after work.  I am so happy to be back!

My weakness has always been swimming...and biking...

Kindo of heavy on the bike... maybe throw one out and make one longer?  3 days a week is probaly enough swimming too.   Not that I am trying to discourage you

what are you traing for again??

Duathlons, 2/15-20/2....willl even consider 5K in there.  For the most part, short sprint tris mainly b/c of my fear of OWS...Unless we go way out of the way, hour drive, few places to OWS practice.  I am not sure I could handle more than 400 OWS....

5/2 Short Sprint

There are some short sprints in the summer, but they are OW

8/09 Short Sprint

Every mtb XC race last year was charged at, listening to the Foo Fighters "In your honour" - but you've got to pick the right CD - it's a double album - one is chill out sleepy stuff for recovery, the other is proper bopp along race music (about 5mph faster as it happens - when I picked the wrong one!)Smile

Green Day "American Idiot" (no offense!Wink) is similarly fast and racey.

For training I am currently subjected to whatever dance cr*p is on the loudspeakers in the gym. If I tried to out-gun the speakers with my mp3, I wouldn't be able to hear anything for a coupla days!

Got a good swim in today. I did the alphabet thing today, that helped I really like swimming. But I do have a question about it. What should I be working on? Should I just be swimming or doing drills or distance, I am clueless here.

a fun thing to do with alphabet is to think of foods that start with that letter- I dont do that anymore- unless Im really bored....makes me lose focus (which I NEED!)

You should be doing drills and working on your form for the most part.  Some days do some fast 50s and/or 100s and other days do some 400- 800s.

I have a lot of different songs on my player, over 300, so it's kind of hard to get sick of any of them. I put the player on shuffle and this keeps the variety up, the only problem is that sometimes you get a slow song right in the middle of going hard. Tonight the fast song was "Thunder Kiss '65" from Rob Zombie but then it went to several slow songs from The BoDeans, Anna Nalick, Sara Dashew.

Tomorrows first song is a good slow one from the Puppini Sisters. It'll be a good warm up.

For some reason I had zero energy yesterday, I couldn't even do the situps. So today I ran on the treadmill and will again tomorrow to get back on schedule. It is a very shocking thing to see what goes on a food log once you start one and actually measure or weight everything you eat. I really thought my salads were healthy, little did I know. Tomorrow I start making changes to my diet based on my log

I lllllove my iPod and listen to all sorts of things on it while I work out. For LSD runs I often listen to podcasts. Lately I have been listening to Lucinda Williams, and of course, U2.

Got in a lunchtime run and then an after work swim and some weights. A good day! Now it's time to watch American Idol.

I tend to listen to grunge, punk and techno on my runs. I need to have a beat otherwise I kind of fade on my runs.

I got a run in today.

I also had my first swim lesson. She taped me and then we went over the video. I have a lot to work on. First, my elbows are not high enough coming out of the water. She said we will work on that later. It is minor. My arms on my catch are too straight. I spent some time working  on bending my elbows as I pulled. Then I worked on becoming more horizontal in the water. Once I started pressing my breast bone into the water, my whole position changed. My head went down further in the water and my legs elevated.

I could feel a huge difference when the lesson was over. I am excited to get back in the pool. I need to order some paddles and mini fins.

That Green Day song is very fast, it'll get you going in high gear. Would be a good sprint song in spin class, what do you suppose the beats per minute are in that?

You should buy yourself a shuffle. They are super cheap, like $30. I clip mine on my shirt and can switch songs super fast. I couldn't wear one on my arm either.

I'm gonna need help with nutrition for my marathon and then again for my HIM.  I hate gels. Can I do it all on liquid, or will that kill my gut?

Got my body fat done today.  Not as bad as I thought.  My gut is average, my tri's and thighs (holy crap) are leaner than average.  Gonna work on those love handles.  The pikes seem to work.  I can totally feel the work the day after.

CanI ask what your BF was?  you can pm me- or you can tell me to F off

I am doing my marathon on just infinite.  I did all the bike for IM on infinite and a Cliff Mojo bar.   Id have done the run on it if I would have carried it with me... but didnt want to.

Favorite is powrbar gels- they arent so think and yucky.  I dont love gels but I got used to the,  I LOVE shot blocks- have youtried those?

I think you can get by on a HIM without them- but you need to find SOMETHING.

I have a marathon calorie calculater somewhere- Ill look

You can ask and I will tell.  My total is 25.7, so I am right on the line of average and leaner than average (for my age group 36-45).  My abdomen was 26..yikes, ilium 24...double yikes, tricep 14 (lean) and thigh 24 (lean).  So, not all bad news.  Clint assures me that all the LSD will melt the love handles off.  So, I am looking forward to that.

I like gatorade, cliff bars and sport beans.  Have not tried the shot blocks.  Are they similar to the Sharkies?
