Two bike rides, two easy runs, and two easy swims. As long as you aren't lung busting and killing yourself on them, you should be okay.

Kill myself on the tri-ride?  And with a new powertap to "test" on the hills?

Nah, not me.  I'd never swing for the fences on that ride...

So what kind of wattage have you been averaging??

Good luck on Saturday.

Just hang back with me, and you can tell me what kind of power I'M putting out....although, that would be too light of a workout.

Looks like a good plan to me.

I'd like to come up and do Mountain Lakes, but it's just not in the cards for this weekend.  Still a very small chance if it's still open.

Alright I need to brag a little bit...  I just banged out 2900 yds in the pool!  That's effin huge for me.  The best part is that it was 250 warm up, a straight set of 2400 and then a 250 cool down.    I did the main set in 46:29 which works out to be 1:56/100 yd and looking at my splits they were all within a second or two of the average. I felt really good at the end and was able to keep my stroke to in really good form throughout.  I'm stoked!

(And yes... I need to make some time to update my logs...)

I've done a whopping three rides with the thing.   The hardest ride I have done was a group ride - average 186 and normal power 256.  Did a tri ride down at the beach and averaged 177 with normalized power at 200 (easier but still challenging ride).  Good?  Dunno.   We'll see what a race performance spits out in not too long.

But playing with the data is dazzling (another word just for you, Mark).  A data geek's dream.

Ain't it great when you can finally just slam down a performance like that and feel fresh afterward?

What's your height and weight?

5'9" 170.

I don't think the numbers above are indicative of a race performance.  I have put in way more bike volume lately than I have before and my legs are definitely fatigued.  I think I am capable of averaging 210-220 watts this weekend on well rested legs.  Purely a guess - we'll see what I can put out.

Your picture posted answered one question I had...

Is a wheel cover worth putting on a road bike?  Is that something that you would keep on, or just use for races.

My other questions, is an aerobottle worth putting between clip-ons?  I've been thinking of getting a Bontranger Aerobottle.

I need all the help I can get...

I'd say yes to both.  A wheel cover is the biggest bang for your buck.  But I wouldn't ride around with it ever day.

I only put it on for races.  It is a pain to air up the tire with it on.  You're certainly welcome to try mine.

For the aerobottle I use a ghetto setup with a plastic bottle holder and 4 zipties.  It works and it definitely helps with air resistance.  If I get a chance I'll take a picture of it this weekend.

Tri ride went a bit better today.  I went hard, but not enough to overload.  199 avg power, 225 normalized.  So the verdict from all your questions, Mark?

I'll think about the wheel cover.  For $90, it may be worth it.  I'm assuming they are reusable.

Send me a pic of your setup if you get a chance.  I'm thinking of the aero bottle.  I'm more comfortable in the aero position, especially once I get settled in.  Sometimes I forget to drink, or don't want to because I have to get out of the aero postion and fumble around with my drinks, just doesn't seem efficient.

It was a good ride last night.  Ruffner just kills me.

Definitely reusable.  You tell them what wheel you have and they cut it out to fit.  The only pain really is getting the tire aired up with the thing on.  Small pain for the time savings, though.

pilotzs - the aerobottle has been awesome. it does help me remember to drink, and it's quite easy to refill on the fly. I take one bottle from the back, flip it over, jam it in the lid and give it a sqeeze. Then I'm set for another 45mins or so.

I do dribble a good bit of fluids out, and lose some to jossling around, but that's understandable.

I'm interested in Sand's cover too! Seeing as how he's a nice guy and will let me check it out, I may put one on my bike for races too, just to get that little edge. I mean, it's just a wheelcover and it's only $100.

PS - I noticed and have been doing it lately - attack Ruffner right out the gate. Charge up that first hill and break away at the park. Smash it there, for the first mile, get on the rollers and you're home free. There's enough downhill, that if you hit it right, you can keep your momentum going throughout.

I pulled the whole way up Ruffner yesterday and felt fantastic! Otherwise, I get behind and play catch up and suck wheel the whole time.

I'll have to look at the aero bottle closer then.  It's about $40, so not too bad.  I like that it's insulated and has a place for the garmin.  I'll see what Sands setup looks like.

I'll have to give the wheel cover some serious consideration then for races.

I can do well on flat areas, because I can power thru them pretty well.  Once I hit a hill (first part of Ruffner, my HR is already up at the turn onto Ruffner), i just get wiped out trying to keep up.  My HR gets anaerobic and it's all down hill from there.  I think if I could get past that first little part, I would be able to suck a wheel and get some decent recovery.

Looked like you left some folks behind on John Rogers...your making some great gains.

Guilty!

What software are you using to read the data?  If you decide to use WKO, I've got a magazine article that does the best job of breaking down the TSS chart

I've been wanting to try the torpedo bottle setup.  My HED bars currently have ski-bend extensions.  When I switch them out for some S bends I'm giving this setup a go.
