Mel, it's the sprinklers. they have a water source/spigot, and they have the irrigation system set around that. the sprinklers are on pipes that span rom one 6 foot-plus wheel to the next. They are motor driven, and it's easier to rig the water supply if it's going to one fixed piont rather than slowly wheeling across the acres in a straight line.

Hiya all!  Bad and busy times at work have cut waaaaay back on my internet time here.

For what it's worth, I've never seen a round field in New England or New York.  I don't think I ever saw any even when I visited my parents in North Carolina.  Maybe the crop type has something to do with it too...

Anyway, hope all are well. I just clicked the button to receive updates (I was wondering why it got so quiet in here) so I'll be able to follow along and chime in from time to time.

Hey Shawn, been meaning to ask...you live in Queens right?  Do you ever do any of the NYRR races? I've been a slacker this year, but the Central Park races are a blast.  The tats and piercings are far more interesting than any in Jersey.

I'm a guy who came into tri's sucking at all three events.  While I've been able to become adequate in the bike and swim, I am still all sorts of horrible on the run and have never considered doing a road race up to this point.  That being said, I do need to improve so I just recently started thinking about doing some of those events next year.  It's good to know that the scenery other than Central Park will be interesting!

Ohhhh - I also just realized that when I took my training log "friends only" some of you weren't on my friends list.  How tragic!  Not that I think most of you actualy look at it but I want to include all of my Ghoulie peeps anyway.  I believe you are all now included but, if I missed you, please give me a shout.  Unless your name is Robin, I promise your absence wasn't intentional!

Good morning Ghoulies!

I know I'm late.

Good JU JU your way today, Robin!!!

Today is the first day of school for the kids. My son is now a middle schooler, my daughter is still in elementary. My husband and I took turns getting up every hour with a sick puppy last night so guess who overslept this morning. My son was up, we didn't get up until 6:35 when the kids woke us, he gets on the bus at 7:20. We were all ready to go with 2 minutes to spare.

Time to go get the girl on the bus soon.

I'll check in later.

kcarroll - 2010-08-24 11:31 AM Hi everyone.  Back for just a few.  Got 7 miles in.  I was mentally game for more, but my legs refused to sign up.  Sigh.

Heading out in a few minutes to take lunch over to a friend who is in the middle of a move, has a new dog and two teenage boys starting school this week.  She is one of those insanely thinny minnies who forgets to eat when under stress. I doubt she's eaten in days. I never have that problem. I made a tomato/spinach pie last night.  Yummm.

Hmmm.... forgetting to eat... wow...

I don't know if forgetting to eat is a good thing.  It all tastes just so good.  I would hate to miss out.  Of course my scale is on the other side of the debate.

Happy belated birthday to Amy's daughter.

They grow up faster than we want at some times, too slow at other times.  Either way, love every minute.

I think it may have something to do with weather patterns.  The areas of the country that are subject to drought are more apt to plant with the irragation in mind.  Areas like New England don't really get hit by drought as often.  That's just my theory (no real facts to back it up right now)
