Couldn't help but to notice the front desk was packed with people buying new memberships to the YMCA, must be that time of year again. |

It looks like it will be a good plan. Some people think it is a little light on the bike. So, I may beef that part up a bit. This will be my first IM. I've done a 70.3 and lots of sprints and a few Olympics. The reviews on Amazon were very favorable. I'm going to stick with this plan. Good luck in your training and see you in Louisville! |

Anyone read it? Very good, and detailed plans. I have loosely followed it in the past w/ reasonable results. This year I'll follow it through Boston, and then plan to increase my bike more than they prescribe, but that's because I'm weak on bike. It got me through both my last tri's, and both under bad weather conditions. Good luck. Nancy |

Member 70![]() ![]() Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadjillian_o - 2010-12-31 12:15 PM Very frustrated, went to the YMCA this morning for a 2200 meter swim with my hubby,he bought his first pair of swim jammers and goggles yesterday and was eager to go swimming with me today, as soon as we walked in and they scanned our cards, they informed us that the pool was closed today. I have been there swimming all week, they had signs up everywhere saying they would be closed on New Year's Day, fine, so I planned a bike ride for tomorrow since the YMCA will be closed, but nowhere in the place did they put out the pool would be closed today. Its just.......arg! I would love to go for a run, but having bad IT band pain since the marathon on the 19th, went for a 7 mile run on Tuesday since I thought I was out of the woods with the IT band issues, but it reminded me of its presence around mile 4, I was able to finish the rest of the run in pain. Since we are getting freak 72 degree weather tomorrow here in South GA, my best friend and I are planning a long bike ride, maybe I will tack on a few extra miles because of the pool issue today. Sorry for all this, I just really had to let out the training vent. Have you tried rolling out your IT band? It's helped me in the past. A foam roller works wonders on many aches and pains. Good luck. Nancy |

Member 70![]() ![]() Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadAs a group we've listed several training plans. Huddle, Be Iron Fit, and Tri-fuel to name three. I've compared them all, and they aren't that different. I think the key is to be consistant and build slowly from now until August. If you do that, I don't think you can go wrong. I don't see that any one plan is significantly different or vastly superior to another plan. |

Expert 868![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadSTEVE- You da' man! Nice runnin'! Regarding training: Nancy...good point regarding the various training plans. For most of you this is your first Ironman and what I would mostly recommend is this: Work your way gradually up so that you can cover 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of cycling, and 26.2 miles of running. Having said that, although I would actaully cover the 2.4 miles of swimming before the event, covering 112 miles is a good confidence booster, however, I would not recommend running 26.2 miles before the event. 20 is plenty...I might only go as far as 16, but I might go 18. My point...if you do nothing else, simply prepare yourself to be able to go the distance in each discipline, and do it gradually. ...Boy, it's really high up hear on this soap box. I'll be stepping down now. Peace, ~Sam |

Glad to see someone else is using this training plan - wanted to be sure I wasn't the only one out there on this book! Bret, what do you think about the swim? I will be beefing up the bike and keeping the run about where it is, but the swim seems a bit intense - any thoughts? Am I just seeing it too much through the eyes of a 70.3, or do you see the same thing? |

The swim looks pretty heavy, but manageable. I'm gonna look into Be Iron Fit as well. Now to get back to the gym, I pigged out over this last month, have some pounds to shed. |

Just curious to see if i'm on the right track. Adam I've been in pre-training mode for about 2 weeks and am ramping up to the 24 week Huddle plan, which I should be starting in about 2 weeks. We're well over 24 weeks away, but I'm adding in a few tapers and rests with an oly in May, and a 70.3 and an oly in June. So for me a 24 week plan is going to turn into a 30+ week plan. Still playing with details right now, but for pre-training I'm mirroring my weekly training schedule for the rest of the year, just with custom distances and workouts. nate |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadI'm training for a 50K on Feb. 27, so running is priority for me right now. But on Jan. 31 I'll start to mesh a 70.3 training plan (20 weeks) for a June 12 HIM. My coach takes over on May 9, so he will dictate everything after that. Confusing! |

I'm going to try to lose the 8 pounds I've added since Thanksgiving and start getting the muscles moving again. Trying also to get my body acclimated to very early morning workouts. Peter |

My goal for January is: Swim 3 times, bike 3 times, run, and nail down my schedule(s) for EM and IMKY. Even though I only did a little bit of running today I was happy to get a run sweat going on - I missed that! |

Will this ever get better!?! Soooo frustrating. Swimming 2 or 3 days per week with my Masters group. Spin class once or twice per week and lots of time on the 'ole bike trainer (boring!). Bright side ~ maybe my bike split will improve this year Happy Training! |

22 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official ThreadLast Thursday, I rode the first 27 miles of IM Louisville on the computrainer. On Saturday, I ran 45 minutes on the treadmill at 6.0 pace and 2.0 incline. On Sunday, I swam 1500 yards. It was my first time back in the pool since Beach to Battleship Half. As far as plans go, I use triathlon coach Karen Buxton. She has completed nine iron distance races, including Kona. She is a USA Triathlon Level III coach (one of only 10 in the USA) and is a Level II USA Cycling Coach. She creates a training schedule for me around my life schedule (i.e. family, work, volunteer responsibilities). My plan starts on January 10th. Now, if I can just follow the plan then I will be OK. :-) Happy Training and Happy New Year, Danes12 |

Im looking to work my running thru Jan/Feb leading into March and the Publix/Georgia 1/2 mary. After that, I will start my "formal" IM training April 1 with my coach. Just doing "base" maintinance workouts now....trainer 1-1.5hrs, 2000 yrd swims, 10k runs. Remember its a long road and starting to eairly can lead to burnout!! |

New user 12 Seymour, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Threadbyrdnj, The swim is my weakest leg for sure. So, I will be happy to get there by any means or plan. I guess I will just have to trust his recommendations. I know this seems like a no-brainer, but I'm going to really focus on the bike leg to make sure I don't melt later on the run. I plan on just getting through the swim with good form at an easy pace and "staying in my box." Who knows? Maybe I will adjust the swim program a little further down the road. Decisions... decisions. I'm excited to be in 2011, the year of IM Louisville. Good luck, and I will be interested to hear how the program is working for you down the road. |
