Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Had my first swim lesson, I'm so glad I did. I think this will help with my breathing. She said form was good just have a hard time with the breath. We did drills for 30 min. Then I did them on my own for another 30 min. I figure I will meet with her for 2 more sessions that way I can get some good tips and hopefully make it more than a length and half without stopping. I'm think I'm out of my funk and back into training. Strength trained after the swim for 45 min. I have to swim first or I am all out of energy. It seems to be working. Like I posted hope all goes well in to the racers this weekend. I'm starting over next week with the basic sprint program. That will take me all the way to my sprint, also going to take 1 spin class a week. Getting excited again about it getting closer. Plus the trees are all budded. Spring is springing. |

New user ![]() ![]() | ![]() Success! first off, I think I'm hooked. it was a hoot. it was snowing when I started the run, and that was cool. Second, now that I know what's going on, I will be *much* more at ease. I work Wed-Sat, and I kind of forgot that I didn't really have any time, so i left a *lot* of stuff until the night before...
like, I hadn't ridden the bike I was using, it had flat tires and there was no pump, I didn't have a helmet, I didn't have sweat pants, I couldn't find my goggles and lock, I didn't know how to set up my transition at all... ummm, let's see... I didn't have directions... I'm sure there wa sother stuff I forgot.
I finally got to bed at 11. I had to be up at 5, out the door at 5:30 for 6:15 packet pick up. I tossed and turned, and fell into a fitful sleep, flooded with "panic" dreams. I woke up at 2:30, terrified because I was late. Once I figured out that I wasn't late, I went back to sleep... I got to the gym with plenty of time to spare, but not knowing *anything*, I ended up needing every spare moment. I got my daughter set up for her volunteer spot, and got my race packet. i went into the locker room to change, and was fortunate to get good advice... see, I had read up on the indoor tri's, where you had 10 minutes to transition and change. I didn't know I was going to run and ride in my swim suit (this tri was run, bike, swim)!
After the safety briefing, I headed out to the starting line. I was in the fourth wave, and met a guy who was also in his first race of any sort. he was slightly larger than I was - everyone else looked to be about half my age and/or weight, and i was feeling.... self conscious?nervous?slow? Our wave finally went off, and it turned out that the guy and I were the same running pace. that worked out well. he had to walk a little bit, but i was able to cheer him on. He was *way* faster than I was on the bike - I transitioned about a minute faster than he did, and he passed me after about a mile.
i didn't push too hard on the bike, but I was still passing a lot of people - that made me feel good... like, I knew I wasn't going to be last, even though I was only racing myself, I still wanted to not be last. I got to the pool and started the swim. in short order, I caught people, and they were ... I don't know... less than courteous about letting people by? there was a lady on the right side of the lane doing side stroke, and a lady next to her (not passing!) doing free style. A kid was able to swim between then, but I wasn't fast enough to try that. It took 4 laps for it to sort itself out, by which time I was starting to flag. I gave up on free style, because I needed to breathe too much to have my face in the water... I went to back stroke so I could pant. :~) I finished, crossed the line, and damn near fell out. but I finished! My final time was 54:09
there's another one - same distances - in June.
I want to cut 10 minutes off my time.
yeah, I'm hooked. :~)

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats OneFaller. That first race feels amazing. Glad to hear you were able to get yourself sorted out prior to the race. I had to laugh about the fitfull sleep _ I still get those!
I hav had a tough two weeks. Went on a bit of vacation and came home sick. It has been a week and a half and I am still struggling. I got to the gym this morning but was still very lightheaded and feeling weak. Hoping this is the end of it. I haven't gone back to read the older posts but will say I am looking forward to taking part in whatever the April challenge is. My personal challenge will be to be a bit more consistent with the workouts and hopefully get in some outdoor running. |

![]() | ![]() Woop Woop One faller!!!!!! Glad to hear you have caught the "bug" I loved your race report. I too can relate to not sleeping before big races and waking up "late". I dont understand why I get so anxious. Not like we are going to the olympics or anything Sounds like even though you lacked some prep...flat tires and all...you were able to push through and really enjoy your race. Not finishing last is always a good goal, sounds like you surpassed your expectations!!!I have no doubt you will shave those 10 mins off very easily CONGRATS TRIATHLETE!!!!! |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() My race went very well. It was snowing for the run, the bike was a little cold and harder than I thought it would be. the swim was great. I finished in under an hour. My 2nd transition time was really slow. I'm working on the run and the bike more as my swimming has been coming along nicely.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Now for my excuses as to my absence (for which I apologize...) I had my interview last week and felt it went really well but was told I wouldn't hear anything immediately so I figured I would call this week. Well Monday morn I got a call from them asking me to come back for a second interview this Friday. WOO-HOO! I will be meeting the 2 Judges, sitting in on a hearing with a Court Clerk, then the interview. I'm really excited and feel really good about it especially since I know I will have a little angel sitting on my shoulder...Friday is the day my Mom died, 2 years ago. Next off, we started getting our countertops installed last Thursday (granite in the kitchen/marble in the bathrooms) and they were supposed to be done Saturday. Needless to say, they still aren't done. I am sooo friggen frustrated with them so we had the boss out here last night and he is coming today with the guys. Aaaand, I love my class (Juvy Justice) but have a lot of work so I really haven't had a chance to play on the computer too much. I'm starting to think I need to take a serious look at my goals for the year and figure out what it is I really want to accomplish. So much has been happening and I am just having a hard time finding my mojo...any suggestions?! |

Whew Then Baker Street Pub and Grill for good old fashion Beef Stew with Guiness yummmmy. With 2 corona extra's, Now I'm real tired. Also had a great smoothie at the gym with blueberries, raspberries, apple juice and protein powder. Can I say great day. |

Mark - I'm getting back into the swing of things, but it would be nice if the rain would stop long enough to get my bike off the trainer and onto the road. hope she's getting better!
in other news, I signed up for another tri - same distances. I want to shave 10 minutes off of my time. I think that's an attainable goal... my run was 21:47. I should be able to take 5 minutes off of that, maybe more - if I do a 10 minute mile, I should get the run done in 15 minutes. my bike was 19:45, and I can definitely get some time there. 4 miles in 20 minutes is 12 mph... I can definitely go faster than that. I'm thinking 15 mph, which would get it done in 16 minutes, but if I get slicks for it, I should be able to go a bit faster. My swim was 7:12, and I think I can get 2 minutes there - if I can maintain 1 minute/50yds, that's a 5 minute swim.
I've got the "Warrior Dash" on May 23rd, and then this next tri is on June 12th.
Time to start kicking the training into high gear. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() went for a hour ride outside today. 84 degrees WOW and snow tomorrow. Only in Denver. After my ride with my S.O. He decided my mountain bike was not going to make my life easier. We went bike shopping, I love REI, new bike $200 off with my 20% coupon I have a Novara hybrid, tested it out and tried Trek hybrid, loved the Trek but couldn't beat the price of the Novara, Just a little heavier than the Trek. I had to order it so 2 weeks before I find out if it will shave off some time on the ride. I am so excited. Onefaller I have no doubt you will get that 10minutes. Go for it. |

![]() | ![]() Good morning all!!!! I hope you have heard about the job Michelle....keeping my fingers crossed for you One faller I have no doubt you can bring your times down. Transition is also an easy place to shave time off. You can go to You tube and watch videos of transition. There are really easy ways to set up transition that can easily take a minute or 2 off your time. It alot easier than shaving that much time off your swim. Congrats on your new bike Terry!!!! Nothing like getting a new bike. May you have many happy miles together. My Mom is doing OK ....she has very serious heart disease and need to have surgery. They will be coming to stay with me so I can help her after her surgery. I am glad they are coming but its going to be a long summer. |
