New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MY daughter is all better which means I can get back to eating well and back to training! Hooray! Sunday (yesterday) I did a 1 hour run. I am still working on my distance and my endurance so I ran for 3:30 minutes and walked for 3:30 minutes (or ran for one sing on my iPhone and walked for one song on my iPhone). I felt great at the end. I also stayed on my diet and remembered to drink plenty of water. Monday (Today) I did my 1 hour run (again running for one song, walking for one song) and I swam for 45 minutes (plus 5 minutes treading water). The run felt good again but I still need to focus on finishing strong especially the last 15 minutes. On my swim I am focusing on my arms while pulling and breathing bilaterally. Overall my workout was wonderful today! I wanted to quit so many times today or cut it short but I thought about a motivational quote I saw "You don't quit when you are tired, you quit when you are finished." That got me through it! Happy Monday everyone! |

I finally get back in the pool on Friday for the first time in 5+ months. Should make for a sore weekend! At least it will break up the run/bike monotony. Hah! You sound like me! I'm just getting back to regular swimming myself. Thankfully, it seems to be coming back pretty quickly. I'm almost back to my previous mediocre swim pace after only a few weeks back in the pool... ![]() |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got a solid 2 hours on the trainer yesterday, followed by a short easy run later in the day. My bike fitness feels pretty good at this point, but extended time in aero position was a little uncomfortable... I haven't been on my tri bike much lately, and can tell I'm definitely gonna need to commit more saddle time to that position to get comfortable being there for 112 miles..... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good Morning, it is nice to see so much perseverence and hard work going on. Tracy and Sarah, you two have really pushed through some challenging stuff lately. Great job! It really makes me want to keep going. Felicia, it is nice to hear that the run was "beautiful". If anyone had told me 2 years ago that running could be beautiful, I'd have thought they were nuts. Now it is a relief and a joy to go for a run. What a nice change ![]() My weekend included a 30 mile group ride and a 7.5 mile run. Both were my long efforts for the week, but I had scaled back the running last week for recovery purposes. Back to it this week. Two cool things are on the schedule for the week, 1 for me and the other for my wife. She has been attending the Citizen's Police Academy here in town. This weekend she gets to do a ride along. She is so excited! And I have a group ride with a local bike club that is called a "skills" ride. We will be working on clipping in/out, balance, pedal stroke, even bottle retrieval. While I feel like these are all things I can do, it should be informative and helpful. Any chance I have to get better at something, I am on it. I hope that everyone here keeps on keepin' on. |

What a nice change ![]() It sounds like you had a great weekend -- the skills ride sounds good, too. I could use something like that. My cycling skills are not good. Good for your wife for getting involved in the community. The two little boys and I are coming down with a cold -- again. I'm afraid it's going to be one of those winters -- we've haven't had one like this in our house for quite some time. I skipped the pool this morning because of it, but I'm hoping to get on the trainer later today -- an hour would be fantastic, but I don't know if I can survive that long, even though I'm listening to the novel Gilead -- which is an amazing listen (I almost said "read"). I hope everyone has a good training day today. It's supposed to be warm here again (maybe that's why we're sick??), so I may try to get out for a short run later, too. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mt family always gets sick when the weather changes so much from hot to cold back to hot and then back to cold. It's miserable. Hopefully your boys will be able to get other it fast. Sick kids are no fun. Good luck getting some training in today. |

We stop to take of work and family but then we are back on the saddle. Today is my running night. weather is warm today, about 60 degrees. With the weather going from cold like yesterday to warm today, my younger one keeps getting stuffy. Its been so drastic here, my nosebleeds have started. All throughout the day. I might have to run with a cotton ball up my nose. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Great run in great weather tonight. No nosebleed even though I had 4 or 5 at work. I ran the hilly course tonight and my legs did not complain at all and my breathing was on par. I hope everyone got a work out in. I am off to the showers and settle in to watch biggest loser. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ugh! Nose bleeds are horrible! I always get them in the winter when the heaters get turned on and my nose dries out. Once in a while I get them when I am super stressed out and my blood pressure jumps through the roof. Glad you got a good run in today! |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a horrible sinus headache all today but I still pushed through my run. I did cut it down to 45 minutes though. Tomorrow I plan on doing: - 30 minute bike ride - 30 minute swim - 30 minute run Hopefully no sinus headaches tomorrow |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm in a funk! I was just getting in a great groove with running and swimming (for the first time), then I had a follow up appt. for my wrist this week. The torn ligament is worse than we thought- and is not healing. So, after discussing the options, we agreed to cast it for 4 weeks. No swimming for 4 weeks. biking only on the trainer, and I haven't tried running yet. I'm pretty bummed right now. -Heidi |

After reading some of the challenges that this group has been through, I am just in awe. Sick children, family sickness, personal sickness, house fires, etc. The list now includes a cast, but nothing can slow this group down! Heidi, another way to look at it is that this is an opportunity to really concentrate on the bike. If you are on the trainer, you can really work on smooth pedaling, sprints, one leg drills, clipping in/out, and such. And by the time 4 weeks is over you'll be even better on the two wheels. Take this lemon and make some lemonade, I know you can do it ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We are quite the group! But everyone seems to be rising to their challenges. I started back at work this week (my first real job in about 9 years!) Luckily it's PT (Tues, Wed, & THurs) so it doesn't effect my workouts too much. Wed. I had to be there by 7:30 for a conference call, so up at 5am and still got my 1/4 mile repeats in and a little strength training. I made all my workouts this week (with a bit of tweaking!) It figures that right after I buy a new bike, I get a job and the weather has been unbelievably warm!! Even today it's beautiful and some friends are doing a group ride, but with the new job I had to reschedule a ton of appts. so it will be the trainer for me tonight! Next challenge..my husband is off to CA for a week starting Sunday, so manage workouts, work and shuttling the kids to my in-laws to get them to and from school on time! I can do it!! |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So woke this morning feeling ok THEN I tried getting out of bed. A fierce pain in my forehead was a start of a severe migraine. I took some advil with my protein shake for breakfast. On my way to work, the pain got worse THEN overwhelming nausea. I barely made it to my building, flying pass the security guards to the bathroom. My coworkers said they can see pain on my forehead. My boss sent me home. It seem like such a long drive and again I made it home just in time. I have been resting all day. My son made me a bagel when he got home from school and I sent my hubby out for soup. The stomach part seems better (not 100%) but no more trips to the bathroom. My migraine eased but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I have on shades because even the light of the computer is too bright. If my migraine eases, will it be safe to swim and run tomorrow? Will I be pushing it too much? |

Sick children, family sickness, personal sickness, house fires, etc. The list now includes a cast, but nothing can slow this group down! I'll add one more challenge to that list - divorce. It's been a long week. On top of a very long week at the gym (taught 7 classes in six straight days) I've come to the conclusion that my marriage needs to head another direction - so the week has been spent making lawyer appts, looking for rentals...etc. Not going to totally air all the dirty laundry here, but I can't help but wonder if, and how this will impact my training. I'm bummed bc I did just submit my USAT membership - and I had all intentions of getting my monies worth out of it, but now I just don't know if that's going to happen. I am going to try and keep on training as much as I can. This will be a long month, and who knows what the next few will hold. I did just pick up another spin class at the gym, so that is positive. Anyway - still love reading all your stories here. Additionally, I am still planning on doing the HM at the end of the month, so some how I gotta maintain some level of training for that. Wish me luck!!! Smiles. Edited by fgholloway 2012-02-04 12:11 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yikes.... so sorry, group, for all of the collective challenges you are all facing. I'm sorry I've been MIA most of this week. I've been attending a fitness convention and it's kept me pretty busy and away from the computer. It's been informative, but has made for some long and tiring days, and has kept me from really training most of this week. I'll still be participating in stuff there today and tomorrow. My "real" IM training begins in a couple of weeks, so next week I really need to get back on track! Have a great weekend, everyone. |
