Great race today everyone.  Thanks for all the luck.  Kelly told me to go out and do 10:20's, about a 1:05 race, I did about 9:57's, for 1:03 ...... a PR of 8:52

I still don't get how coaches know what you are capable of, not exactly I guess, because as I told Kelly, I am completely stunned!  She knows what to expect, but I am constantly surprising myself.  For me its a good thing, then I am super excited when I PR.

That is awesome!! Congrats!!

Kelly, congrats! That is pretty cool!

Hope everyone had a great day. On top of my long run and two kids soccer games, I found some time to BBQ a pork shoulder. Well deserved I think after a good week of working out!

Great Job Carrie..keep pushing forward! Kelly..so jealous...what great accomplishment!

Went out for my 3rd 40+mile ride this season Friday...did the Quassy course (cut out a couple of miles due to time constraints).  Very windy which made some of those great descents very scary as I kept getting pushed to the left...a lot the course is open fields so the wind can really take you.  Ride turned into a brick as I flatted about 2 miles from my car (I wish I could say I fixed my flat with no problems) as I went to retrieve my kit -- I realized I never strapped it -- was sitting right next to my car tire when I got back!! The course is challenging...definitely need to be patient for the 1st 30 miles (most of the hard, long climbs) and then try to get some speed heading back to transition.

8.5 mile run yesterday...felt great. Off for a swim and maybe a short run during my son's baseball practice.

Everyone have a great week!

After yesterdays great outdoor ride everything started to go downhill. I had a bad headache (stupid me didn't have a cup of coffee) but then turned into either food poisoning or the flu. I've been in bed since early last night sick as a dog! Hot then cold, every bone in my body aches. And despite popping Aleve like it's candy, this darn headache won't go away! I'm stressing about my long run I need to get in today. =(

Skitri, nice ride. Everyone keeps saying how brutal that course is. Wind certainly dont help

Karen, hope you feel better.

42.53 mile road ride this morning.  Weather was perfect. Tried to stay in a lower zone and kept average HR at 133, but pace was only 16.5.  I guess that's HR training for ya!!

I know we may have talked about elevation before, and what is considered a lot fo climbing.

My road ride this morning, at 42.53 miles, was 3,142 feet of climbing.

My Mountain Bike Trail ride last week was 18.15 miles, at 3,448 feet of climbing.

I have to think, 3,142 feet over 42 miles is still a lot of climbing, right, or am I way off.  How does this compare to the REV3 HIM bike course. Just curious for no reason really.

I realize the Garmin may not be 100% accurate, but it has shown to be consistent with the same routes I take.

Bike - Ran today.

Didn't feel mentally exhausted for the first time in a long time.

I made the really tough decision to leave QT2 this weekend (I'm working on a post on why I left but the short story is that while the coaching is fantastic and works well for me there were issues with the team and the organization that didn't work for me).  While its been difficult lately, I feel much better having made a decision.

Sorry I have not been posting it was Spring Break so I did not get the chance to sit in front of my computer all lunch and post. This week has been crazy.

Congrads to everyones accomplishments this week. (PR, Coaching Certs, and race accomplishments.)

Had a great ride in Lake Placid, and got my wife her 10 year anniversary present BMC TM02 in sliver she should be super fast now.

Back to the grind (work) tomorrow so I should be posting more. Thanks for all the encouragement and comments. 14 weeks till LP and things are going great!!

I'll be really interested to read that post.

I felt really fresh today for the first time in a while too. Went out and ran 9.14 in 80 minutes for an 8:45 pace and only a 140 average heart rate which is really fast for that HR for me. Having a really light recovery week due to the family being sick and my being mildly sick put some life in the legs.

Looking forward to your blog post about leaving QT2 as well, Kelly.

I had a 1hr slow run today. It was about 45 degrees and windy so it sucked. But I did it.

Are you going to train yourself or do you have another coach lined up that you are going to be working with? Do you think any of your training will change up for the IM's this year?

Maggie - Glad to hear you were able to preview the Quassy course.  I hear it's a killer

Karen - Take care of yourself and feel better soon!

Jeff (rizer) - I'm not sure how much climbing would be considered a lot of climbing, but I am in the same boat around here.  I tried to keep my HR in the zones for yesterday's ride, and it all went to hell.  LOL

I was able to get out on the roads for a ride yesterday, as it was 80 degrees here.  At first I felt fearful and nervous because of all the traffic, but once I warmed up, it felt natural again.  Bad thing is my inability to stick to HR zones on the road.  If I were to go a recovery pace on these hills, then I wouldn't make it up!  Good thing is that the 100s and 100s of miles on the trainer this winter have paid off, and I am incredibly strong on the bike outside.  It's like I picked up where I left off last August for Chicago.  That makes me feel very pleased with the work I've done this off season.

everlong - 2012-04-15 3:29 PM I felt really fresh today for the first time in a while too. Went out and ran 9.14 in 80 minutes for an 8:45 pace and only a 140 average heart rate which is really fast for that HR for me. Having a really light recovery week due to the family being sick and my being mildly sick put some life in the legs.

So coming off a really fast run yesterday I did my first outside ride today. Ended up averaging 19.6 MPH over 90 minutes on a course that I would have average a MPH less at best the end of last summer even if I was totally fresh. Pretty happy with that. Heart rate was higher than it would have been on the trainer. My neck was a bit stiff getting used to looking up but nothing like last season starting out on a tri bike for the first time. I could definitely feel my hammies engaged a lot more keeping the higher cadences on small hills.

Now the bad. I had to change over my rear wheel from my trainer wheel to my road wheel which is always a challenge for me still. So I get out to my driveway which angles down to the street which is also downhill. The Garmin syncs and I press start and take off. I give my breaks a quick squeeze and all at once the lightbulb goes off in my brain realizing I didn't tighten the rear break after making the tire change.......and over I go. No bike damage and only a few cuts for me as I took most of it on my side.

Please don't make this mistake yourself and please refer to me going forward as Everdumb.
