cornick - 2013-01-17 3:50 PM It's getting there.  Can certainly feel it when I get tired in the pool though and it wears out faster than the right.  But that's ok...it's getting there.

Yeah I know the feeling. Something is definitely wrong with us. If someone asks how I feel I say "Great, I only still need the Tramadol at night after a hard workout." Everything is right on schedule

CD: 10 x 50 Easy on 1:05

Total: 4100 Meters (2.54 Miles)

Longest swim so far has been a 3200 so we'll see how this one feels after I can't get out of the pool!

aaaaaacck!

I just turned in my slowest run in probably six months.  I know better than to let this bother me.  Some days, some weeks will be good.  Others will be total garbage.  Fitness won't come together for several more weeks.

Still, I hate that feeling.  It is like there is a little voice in the back of my head that says I just wasted an hour.

The last couple years I've had friends just come up and find and not have an issue finding a place real quick.  They aren't usually the nicer places though...but the nicer ones want 5 night minimums.

Good point.  Forgot about camping... in 2011 when I volunteered I stayed at the Cascade Acres.  It's a mile from town and I just rode my bike everywhere.  Including back to the campground  at 1:00am.

What did you do to the shoulder?   I separated mine 4 weeks ago and still can rotate it enough to swim.   I'm back to running and biking but worried this problem may be more long term than I originally thought.

Broke it 3 weeks prior to IMLP '12.

Is the elevation profile for the bike on the ironman website correct? Start at 1,781ft, climb 434 ft, a big drop then a climb of about 1,300 ft.  The way I read that is 1,734 ft climb for 2 laps so 3,468 ft gain but the elevation profile says 9,386.  What am I missing?

Mapmytri.com and mapmyride.com have it at about 5,000 feet of climbing for 2 loops.  The course maps on the IM website I don't really like and they kind of make the course look a little easier than it really is.

Totals for the week:

1:10 swim

4:10 bike

3:00 run

8:20 total

Good week overall; starting to feel like I am getting into shape.  May push bike hours a bit more for a few weeks, to save on wear and tear relative to running.  Gotta find more hills, given the note on elevation above!  Aside from some rough wind today, got in the long ride outside.  Getting three long rides in January around Boston is like stealing!

How is everyone else doing?  Feeling good?

Feeling good. It was 9F when I started my long run this morning. Was planning on 13 miles...cut it to 10.5. Legs were just dead...
Just finished up EN's outseason. Have a down week this week and start my week 1 the following week.

How long was the out season plan?  That's a pretty impressive run for this point in the season (if not going for Boston or something); great job!

Outseason was 14 weeks long (I thought it was great).  I trimmed it to 12 so that I could start my week #1 next week and be on schedule for July 28th.  No Boston for me...I've been trying to make 90 mins my minimum long run time.  I'll skip it next week for recovery though...happy training!

Sad to report I have a cold or mild flu.  Not sure what it is since I went rock climbing at the gym and used muscle I didn't know I had.  Hey fellow Finksters, did you do what Fink said to do?

For the 5000 yards of swim, I missed about 3000 of it.  Also missed 15 minutes of bike due to miscalculations.  Everything was done indoor due to weather and scheduling.

Still not fired up for the training for this second IM.  Maybe when the weather gets better in New Jersey and after I got rid of this cold/flu.

If you miss some workouts you miss some workouts.  I wouldn't worry too much about it.  We still have 27 weeks of training left.  Just focus on getting rid of that cold so you can go pedal to the medal with the training!  I don't usually follow his plan to the T rather I use it as a guide.  Some days I can get in a full workout other days I can only get in part of it or have to break them up during lunch and break at work.

I use Fink as a kind of rough guide rather than uber-specifically myself.  It seems like a great base plan, but for me, for example, I need to get stronger on the bike and am not quite as focused on the other disciplines.  Not neglecting them, just not focusing on them, at least for the first 10 weeks.  If I hit the long run goals, exceed the biking targets and swim twice a week, I think I will be happy in terms of training.  Gotta get fired up... life is too short to waste 30 weeks on something like this if you're not into it!  Did it take you a while to get into the training flow for your first one?

Same here. I'm using Fink as a general guideline, but I like more running that what he's got in there. That may change as we get deeper into the plan.

I'm also doing the Tour of Sufferlandria beginning on Saturday (lasting 9 days), so I would imagine I'll be tweaking week 5 into 6 quite a bit.

Get better everyone that is sick! Make sure you're pumping that arm lifting your daily vitamin.

You're body isn't used to having to work this hard, give it a little extra love...and take something!
