Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed Originally posted by DeVinci13 Just a bit of a mid week brag. Back in February we did a 400m TT at my master's swim. 8:05 was my time. I worked with the coaches and improved my technique, especially the high elbow pull and bi-lateral breathing. I was making progress and even moved up a lane. Well, today we did another 400m TT and my time was 6:59. Now I just have to learn how to flip turn and I can cut even more time off. I have been out for several walk/run sessions and everything is feeling fine as far as the leg goes. I am working on holding the aero position in the aero bars for longer and longer periods. 2 more weeks and it is the first half ironman distance tri of the season. I hope all the work pays off. Dwayne Way to go Dwayne!! Nice improvement! How is the run going? |

Had a great time, the race went well! I enjoyed meeting Robin. I have some mixed thoughts on the race that when I get time will share in the RR, probably tomorrow some time. I guess I will return next year for revenge since I convinced some family members to try it doing a relay. Back to the training tomorrow, the next race is just 2 months away! |

I stopped getting all email notifications so I assumed the site was still down. Home now and good to see Ken and Robin rocking it in FL. Ken had a wicked fast bike split and Robin had a speedy swim. Keep it up guys! My sprint race went okay today. It was rainy and cold so I wasn't really feeling it and they changed the course so comparisons to last year don't mean much. I didn't see any e-mails today either! T Thanks Bill, it was highlight of my race. The bike has been a focus this year, but apparently at the expense of the swim. The run was just survival mode with it being 91 degrees and sunny. No complaints from me on this one. The swim on the other hand was a WWF cage match that I just never got comfortable with. I did get a chance for a brief chat with Robin on the bike course! I think she was having a good race! It wouldn't surprise me that she had a good swim as she is a strong swimmer. I met her yesterday as well as her husband and dad, glad to be able to meet any of you in person! I hope you get to enjoy the rest of your vacation Robin!! I survived my first half - woot!!! Great race, but definitely on the hot side. Ice kept in strategic places kept me going on the run! I think I placed 42nd out of 70, with my best leg being the swim 15 out of 70. There was lots of carnage by the time I get on my 2nd/3rd lap on the run due to the heat! I definitely would have done better if it was cooler - but am just fine with the way I finished! Awesome meeting you Ken!!!!! Great to hear you did well - when I get a chance I will go back on read your RR - you looked super strong when you passed me on the bike! At the airport headed to Key West to spend some time with my wonderful husband! I hope everyone is having a great week and look forward to catching up! Gongrats Robin! enjoy the rest of your trip. Who knows? it might snow one more time when you get home :-) |

Extreme Veteran 601 Cold Spring, NY | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed Originally posted by skitri Great Job with your first HIM Robin. Well MotherNature is all over the place here (and everywhere it looks like) We went from needing to turn our heat back on last week to hitting 92 yesterday with tornado warnings all over the place. It was interesting on my run how much my HR went up when the shade went away the last 1/4 of my run. Looks like rain for the rest of the week with it only getting to 60 on Saturday--ugh! Looks like I'm trainer bound for the weekend. Was planning 1st OWS of the season on Friday, but that's on hold till we see if the rain clears out. Next week looks clear so hopefully I can dust off my wetsuit before REV3. I've had it with this yo-yo weather pattern as well, and hate hot and humid. But i gotta ask, if theres no thunder/lightning, why not get in that swim? You're gonna get wet anyway. Edited by bdenehy 2013-05-22 7:12 PM |

Here's my weather rant....its been very very windy, and its gonna stay that way for at least 10 days. Which sucks because I gotta do some rides before San Diego. One last "longish" (45 maybe?) Ride on Friday, then a couple easy rides next week. Am I doing that right? I dunno, but I'm actually nervous because I really want to be faster and stronger, but I cannot jam in all various kind of rides. I've done quite a lot the past month, so I gotta hold on to that faith that I am stronger than I think! The elevation in San Diego is way lower than Las Vegas, so I wonder if its already an advantage. Having a lot of "I should haves" in regards of training....ugh! It feels like I'm training for an IM! Dwayne I think you're allowed to brag about that I think it's brilliant. I had my first anxiety dream about my HIM, mainly about the swim as i need to work to make sure I don't get thrown out after the first hurdle. In my dream i was 20 mins late in starting the race, dived into a horrible tidal river, didn't have my goggles on but then, after about 10 mins I met up with the rest of the pack coming in to finish the swim so thought I would just follow them in so I was still able to continue on with the race, with just a little bit of cheating. I wonder what that's all about then? |

Veteran 268 Northern CT | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed I don't mind swimming in the rain (as long as it's not RAIN) but the forecast is all over the place plus the wind is suppose to gust up to 25mph and the group I swim with doesn't meet until 6:30 - that could be an issue with the temps dropping etc.. -- we'll see- next week looks calm so I know I'll be able to get a quick wetsuit check in before next Sunday! Started the day with a very crowded swim and then figured I could get a quick 90min ride in....got 5 miles from home and the skies opened up. Started back for home and 1 mile from my house it clears up (sun even poked out!) REALLY!! by the time I had my shower it was raining again. It's going to be a long weekend on the trainer - rain here until Monday - with a balmy 54 degree high for Sunday! Then (I know I know...so much can change in 10 days) but there's seems to be a warming trend towards the end of next week - right now it says 87 for next weekend. And just last week I was thinking I may need to get a neoprene cap of the swim ...ha ha!! Edited by skitri 2013-05-23 12:19 PM |

Member 258 | Subject: RE: kenj triathletes in training - IM and HIM focused - Closed New Toy Alert! I got the Garmin 910XT on sale ($299 at REI). It's quite the step up from ye olde 110 and I'm still figuring out what all the buttons are for. Do you have one? How do you use it (do you program workouts, just hit the lap button for your intervals, etc)? I hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm on my way to the "Iron Horse", a bike race with a steam engine from Durango to Silverton, Colorado. Jaime |

Besides the data tracking, and the auto upload to BT and Training Peaks, probably the best feature I use is the auto lap feature. For the run it is set for 1 mile, for the bike 5 miles and right now the swim is set at 500 yards. For the bike, the alert reminds me to drink/eat so I don't get behind on nutrition. For the swim, it helps me count laps on longer sets. There are probably other features that I use and forget about so ask away if there is anything you think it should do but haven't found yet. |

Not racing...more of taking care of my sore throat and possibly cold. *cries* I have already loaded up with Emerg-C. Skipped tomorrow's ride and possibly Sat if i dont feel better (a hilly and a bit technical ride) put in a easy ride in trainer. Sunday will be super easy, but its a wait and see. Good thing I don't feel like my endurance is completely shot, but am a little worried. i think all the severe winds at Sedona and last night's ride did me in. Gooooooooo Jamie!!! |

I'm running a 10k on Monday, but keeping my expectations low. Got a lot of training to squeeze in first, with a longish trail run Saturday and a long s/b/r race simulation on Sunday, if the weather isn't terrible. The last official 10k I ran was 17 years ago so my goal is to beat my 21 y/o self. He was faster than me for 1-2 miles, but he was a chain smoker with crappy endurance :-) Have a great race Jaime! I really like the "man vs. Machine" aspect. Garmin 910 - the most useful tri thing I have. I use it for every workout Except for pool swims (i would use it then too, but i have some issues that make it impracticle). Really helpful for trainer workouts. You can create as detailed a workout on Garmin Connect that you want and push it down to your watch. Feel better DJ. |

If you have the Pace Partner (whatever that is) feature on your Garmin 910 - perhaps put your old self time on there, and see yourself beating him? :-) I still have my FR305. After all the hype, I only use it for run/bike, and not use any of the insurmountable features. However, I have put my trainer bike intervals on there. it makes it WAY easier instead of clicking on lap. You can have it beep at you "Your HR is too HIGH!" "Your speed is TOO slow" or "Cadence is too high". I find that feature extremely useful, but it is a bit of a PITA to really put it in Garmin Training Center (UNLESS if the 910 is easier...dunno). |
