Veteran 263 Goodyear | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread elliot85 - 2013-03-22 8:58 AM I ran the Leadman run course Wednesday night. Some observations in case anyone is interested... - 80% is on trails. - Small undulating rollers throughout, nothing steep. My Garmin read 466 feet climbing. It's definitely tougher than the typical Tempe triathlon runs (around the lake). Nothing technical. - Surface was pretty firm (good for running) with only a few rocky sections. Should be pretty fast. - Distance was a little over 8 miles. Hope this helps! Thank you for this info. I was looking at the map and the trail doesn't look hilly at all. I have been training on the Estrella trails doing 7 miles on some tough rolling climbs. Feel much better about the Tempe trail run. I thought the run course was 6.99 miles? Better do 8 tomorrow. My swim is so slow. Did a 2500 yard pool swim in 1:05. Yikes. Bike not to bad. 80 miles at 16.2 mph. Tempe Trail should take me and hour. So, I am looking at 7 hours total. |

You're probably going to the Leadman site like I was and not the Red Rock Co. website. http://www.redrockco.com/events/event-details.cfm?id=FF5C15EF-2219-59CD-DD1AF0A580E33E28 Rumor has it they are still working on permitting from the Indian tribe for the bike. Hope it doesn't end up being the Soma course for all you people racing. |

I'll talk to the race director and try to find out the bike course status. I'd count on it being on the Beeline though (same as the past two years). PHXATC- Go to the Red Rock site for the most up-to-date information. Here is a map of the run. |

Extreme Veteran 635 Ajo | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread It just got posted b/c I checked this morning and there was nothing. This is disappointing to say the least, but I'm still in on the 125. The reservation must have either not wanted us or asked too much. It's pretty crazy, 4 loops. Further, there's a detour up the hill that will probably confuse people. I suspect that this route will not make any friends and might doom the leadman experience, IHO. |

People are going to be upset, especially posting the course just two weeks before the race. Red Rock is a great race organizer though, and they will do their best to make it a pleasant race experience. The run course looks fun! |

Extreme Veteran 611 Casa Grande, Az. | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread eehh, I've done the 6 loop oly with TriFamily a few times. 4 loops, 8 loops, either way.....Make the best of it! I'm sure the trail run will more than make up for it! It's traditionally been breezy/windy for this race. Rather stay in town, if that's the case, again....Never gonna be able to please everyone. Always here complaints about the Soma course, yet turnout every year is great. |

Veteran 263 Goodyear | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread 4 loops. I sure hope I don't do 5 loops. Doesn't bother me anyway. Just hope I don't do more than 4 loops. I did that mistake before...lol... |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread What a sad piece of news to hear they could not reach agreement with the reservation to get access to Beeline. 4 loops of SOMA will be a bummer, but hey, everyone doing the 125 has to do the same course, so we will all suffer through the turn, hammer, turn, hammer, turn, hammer........ together! Just remember - every race you can get out and participate in is one more step to a life of better fitness. Old, young, fast, slow, heavy, thin, man, woman - we make up an awesome community and regardless of the course, it is always a blast to be out there with everyone. OK, soap box rant is over. HA HA |

My grandson is doing bike portion and this is his first triathlon, I don't want him to crash and have bad impression of triathlons in general. I want this to be a fun race for both me (70), my son(42) and grandson (20), their first triathlon. |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread I'm sticking with the 125, REALLY considered doing the Olympic instead, but the trail run is really intriguing (and I don't want to do the OLY course run)! My husband and I are going to run it tomorrow over lunch and have mapped it out, but it looks fun! Compared to the Oly run (which I've done multiple times), I'm kind of looking forward to it! I'm trying to embrace the bike course...with 4 loops my family can see me more so it is more exciting for them. Also, it is good for pacing and in past races, I've been pretty consistent with times/loop. I do wish they would extend the cut offs for the swim portion though...I can swim 2500 in under an hour (in a pool) but OWS is totally different. AND, being female in 40+ age group, we always start last and only have 1:15 to get it done...plus my swim is NOT where it should be. Will be an interesting day! |

There's a couple swim events before April 14th in Tempe Lake that you can do to get you more comfortable. There's the AZ OPen water swim (1500m, 3000m, 4500m distances) this Sunday. .. and a Splash and Dash April 11th. http://www.4peaksracing.com/events/ironcare-splash-n-dash-race-1-spring-2013 |

I don't see them on the Red Rock site and last I heard they hadn't adjusted them from last year's Marquee HIM. When I asked on FB a few months ago, they said they would post update there, and nothing yet. |

I want this to be a fun race for both me (70), my son(42) and grandson (20), their first triathlon. I have only done four triathlons (2 sprint and 2 Olys) and never done a race longer than an Oly. However,it seems to me that the course does not cause crashes. Cyclists taking turns too fast cause crashes. Call me conservative, but I am overly cautious making those turns. BTW, I would have preferred the Beeline route of last year's HIM. Race on!! |

Otherwise, I would not have signed up for the 125 because I do not think I could have made the bike cut-off. It is going to be a fun race! |

Member 1487 Scottsdale, AZ | Subject: RE: LeadmanTri Marquee Epic 125 : Official Thread I am going to try to make the Splash n Dash next Thursday. I will be out of town this weekend so can't do the other one. Oh I do hope they adjust the cut off times! I've been checking periodically and so far it is still the same. Will be the first race I've done where I've been worried about this. Re: the bike course and accidents...most of the accidents I've seen/heard about is from cyclists taking the corners too fast (Priest and Rio Salado especially, and the one up on College is really tight). Since I'm a MOP rider, I find that after around 2 laps ((SOMA), all the super cyclists have passed me and the course becomes much calmer. You just have to be aware of those around and behind you and make appropriate speed changes so you can make the turn safely. I don't feel the turns are dangerous, just annoying! |
