My choice in Order of places to swim

Open Water
50 m/y pool
25 m/y pool
having my fingernails yanked out
endless pool

I can only imagine how boring option 5 would be but if was your only option (which it isn't for the OP) I would do it then and only then.

I agree 100% with proudfoot. Nothing comes close to ow but the next best thing is a 50 m pool, it is a real luxury. Luckily I have a 50m less than 2 miles from my house. Sure the hours suck, the locker room reeks and it's closed during the winter but when it's open it is very nice! Endless Pool is nice for home or for lessons.

OW is always my first choice if time permits.

Baowolf - 2008-10-07 7:50 PM The swimspa I am getting has a program for interval work, you can do a speed workout with up to 9 diffent speeds per workout and run different workout patterns. So you warm up at 1.5 mph for 10 min, then get into a grove at 2mph or whatever for 5 minutes then go wherever you want from there and drop a cool down at the end. It has 99 settings up to 4 mph in equal gradations. Anyway I will put a post up once I get it and try it out. It sounds like fun to me, but it won't be OWS. But then there will be ice on the lake in a month or so, brrr. Using the mph of the water and time swimming you can calculate distance based on the speed settings. I am not sure how sophisticated your gym's swimspa is. For you I would think the access would be key and the feel (like to do flip turns or don't, get boored easily or don't, like to just get into a grove and go forever or like the feedback of the end of the pool). It all comes down to your preferences.

Be sure you try out the swimspa before you invest in it!  We are stuck with one from a couple years ago and it sucks!  You can't get into the stream to consistantly swim and it is a constant battle.  The longest I have been able to hold a stroke was approx 2 min.....your feet hit the sides and the seats. Not only that the actual sides of the spa warp some and they have now sent 4 tops for it because they keep warping. We filled in our pool after 30 years to get this and redid the entire back yard landscape to have it recessed into the patio....total regrets! Good luck if you go this route.  Ours is by ThermoSpas.
