PM - on the tri board we have a "30 runs in 30 days" challenge thread going.  The minimum run is 2 miles or 20 minutes.  It's been a good motivator for some folks.  I'm currently at 108 days of consecutive running and there's a guy on there who is right at 400 days, with quite a few other streaks going.

It only takes 20 minutes a day (if you stay at the minimum) and you'll be surprised how fast the miles pile up.

The wife wants to start running with me... she has said that before... but I already told her I am perfectly happy to run 20 minutes with her around the neigborhood.

We should start web site where people can get together to talk about working out and stuff!

I hear ya and just wanted to say, I enjoy reading your posts.

Now what are you doing for a workout tomorrow?

Whenever I tell mrs gearboy about whatever I am talking about on the BT boards, she asks "Don't they ever post anything about triathlon?"

Stealing this idea from another site but what about starting up a COJ Workout Challenge,,,, 30 minutes of some type of exercise a day as a goal till say 2/14/2012. Anyone know how to set up a challenge like this in BT?

PM any of the 'Challenge Me' forum mods. Tell them you want to set up a challenge, with the name of the challenge. That's the easy part - you'll get your very own challenge thread in the challenge forum.

THEN...you'll need a way to track progress...spreadsheet, google doc, something, so you know challenge progress. You'll also want to figure out how you want to run or score the challenges - days, points, whatever, and whether it's individual or teams. Easy enough, just takes a little planning and organization.

I hope you set it up. The first annual sighting of 'COJ'ers Thinking About Working Out' challenge. Mine eyes....

mr2tony - 2012-12-27 8:11 AM  I've always wanted to do the Triple Bypass. I used to do a lot of riding in Colorado. I don't think I could do it these days, what with all the riding in flat flat Chicago. I've a 50-mile trail ultra on the docket this year so I'm all about the trail running. For now. Until something shiny comes along and catches my eye.

you could do it Tony...even if you are a flatlander!  Long rides where there is a lot of ascending and descending are easier than a long flat ride, imo.  It's slower...but easier.  If not TBP...Copper Triangle goes over 3-passess (Freemont, Tennessee, and Vail over about 80-miles.  Somewhat easier but just a scenic.

Maybe that will be one of my challenges in 2014. Yeah we used to have a place in Estes Park so I'd ride the MTB around Rocky Mountain National Park and up Trail Ridge Road, and we had a place in Keystone so I'd ride over Swan Mountain Pass to Breck and Dillon on the roadie. And up to Montezuma. Talk about a creepy town!

Perhaps it's time for a break. Sometimes I loose perspective. The economy, the elections, the shootings, the cliff... Sierra Club is trying to shut my plant down, sell the municipal utilities to a private company, I just bought a business that is not in the black... The only good thing that has happened around here was weed was legalized, but I stopped smoking it 12 years ago.... and I plan on keeping it that way. Moderation was never my strong suit. I have not been "training" since September, I have gained 10 lbs. and I am not signed up for a single thing. Yes, my blank logs are up to date. Maybe it is time to get off the computer and get some things in order.

I just want to say, to all my COJ peeps, you are the best. I have never been on any other forum that allowed political discussion, that had the level of class that you guys have. Intelligent, passionate, adult discussion on very sensitive subjects with some very opposed views. Yet you guys pull it off with class, thoughtfulness... and yes, even respect. Just because I may disagree with you, does not mean I do not have a great deal of respect for all of you. I think I'm argued out. I get here from time to time.

My best to all my BT Peeps.

Best of Holidays and the New Year to you and everyone on BT. It was a mixed year - great family and business wise, not so great health wise. Learning that you don't recover so fast at 50 was fairly depressing. 4 months since the bike crash ended an otherwise great season and I'm still dealing with significant nerve pain. And now +12 on the weight, which is a PITA.

Met quite a few BT'ers this year at various events. Didn't ask politics and didn't care, what mattered was training, racing, and sharing a beer or two afterwards. Smoking cigars and freezing my butt off at the campfire at IMLP was classic. Being able to provide parking and facilities for BT'ers coming to do Philly Marathon was a real pleasure. Karma, baby!

Powerman you brought up a great memory. Last time I smoked pot was in 1998, with my brother-in-law. We were hanging drywall in my basement and had just stopped for the day. Lo and behold he produces a doobie. Neither of us had done it in years but it seemed appropriate at the time. Honestly I did enough of that in HS and have completely lost interest.

And now I'm becoming a cranky old man according to my kids. Peace on Earth, and Get Off My Lawn
