I've used turbotax every year for the past 3 years, which included a lifetime learning credit one year, and 2 state income one year.

Depending on your income level, it might be free, I forget. Last year was the first year I had to pay for it, as I was finally otu of school and earned a little more.

Turbo Tax guides you through a lot of the questions you are asking about.

I had to file in multiple states when I was a road warrior.  Turbo tax will do just fine, but, sadly, they do not offer a multi-state discount.

I've used a private CPA for the past 5 returns.  The first three were amendments where he captured refund money TurboTax mssed. For every $1 I paid him, I got $48 back.  Last year for a simple return I paid around $200.  I'm not a numbers person, and am personally more comfortable with a full time CPA that someone who possibly took a crash course last Fall to earn extra money during tax season.

so you got 9600 back. can i gt your accountants number?

You got $9600 back? That Turbo Tax missed? Sweet, except you gave the government a big interest-free loan.

Really doesn't sound like the OP's return is complicated enough to warrant a CPA.

ha ha i just had the same Q. and i thought i didnt like you....
