Well, I'm officially sold on Infinit.  That sucks because I just bought 3 large Hammer Gel jars.

I had a 5.5 hr ride yesterday.  When I started it was 78 degrees, humid and overcast and it was 94, hot and humid when I got done..  When I finished, 5h 42 min and 121.6 miles later, I was tired but in good shape.  I had 4 ~300 Kcal bottles on board and had ziplocks with 2 scoops each in them in my jersey pocket.

I had a 22 oz bottle each hour (give or take 5 min) and drank only out of my AeroDrink.  I stopped with 1h 45m left at a store and got some water.  I filled up two more bottles and finished off my ride.  What struck me as odd was that my urine was pale yellow (that's a good thing) when I stopped at the store.  That never happens to me on these rides!

I did feel a bit hungry 3/4 of the way during the ride, but not a hunger pain like I have had before.  I brought my gel flask expecting to need it and never did.  So basically it just weighed me down.  BUT...the foaming was a bit annoying when I stopped at the store.  But since I will have them pre-filled for IM, that won't matter.

Also, the only difference in taste between the one that was on my bike for 4 hrs and the one that I filled at the store was minimal.  I could tell it was cold, but the taste was the same.  And it didn't seem as salty 4+ hrs in...Go figure.

Just wanted to pose this to share my recent experience with Infinit:

I'm deployed to Afghanistan and emailed their customer service to find out if they shipped to APO.  I get a response from Michael personally, who not only helped with the order but threw in some extra gear for me to share with my fellow soldiers over here.  Sure, it was some good advertising for him, but it also showed a personal touch that is very rare these days.

I haven't had a chance to fully test the product.  I've done one workout with it and it wasn't enough to get a good feel.  The taste was average and it made me burp some, but it went down much easier than the gatorade/water/gel combo I was using before.  I'll post more once I've given it a thorough test on a long/intense workout.

Thanks Andrew. Be safe. Glad that you got the care package. Got there pretty quick!

So I just got my infinit in the mail and...wow...that shizzle tastes GOOD.  I definitely like FLAVOR and with just two scoops it isn't quite flavorful enough for me...but once I make it more concentrated (as I will have to do so I don't have to carry a lot with me) it's flavorful enough.

I zipped through the bottle I had on my bike because it was so tasty.

Next up...trying a concentrated flask on my long run next weekend!

Another big thumbs up for Infinit.

Drives me crazy reading peoples IM nutrition plans, and it looks like:

  • 1/2 a Clif bar every 30 minutes
  • 2 salt pills every 27 minutes
  • 12.3 oz Gatorade every 20 minutes
  • 21.2 oz plain water every 57 minutes
  • 1 gel every 33 minutes

Endurance nutrition doesn't have to be that complicated. Just dial up Infinit, experiment to figure out what formula works for you, and take all the thinking out of it. That way you can focus on the race and have fun. I did.

Heh, I hear ya.  I know everyone is different and what works for one doesn't work for someone else...but I do think people go overboard sometimes!  My main reason for wanting something like infinit IS just to make it simpler and easier to carry enough nutrition.  I did a hilly century (um, like I climbed over 9500 on the century and tacked on another 1000 riding to/from) a few weeks ago and this is the list of what I ate:

2xChocolate GU (who knew these taste like pudding????)
2xTriberry GU
2xLemonLime GU
900ish calories of SE
2xpkg COLA Shot bloks
1xpkg Margarita Shot bloks
1xpkg Strawberry Shot bloks
1xpkg Cran-razzz shot bloks
1xcookies and cream Powerbar
3xpkg Sport beans (1 each of fruit punch, orange, and the blue ones)
1xBottle of apple juice (140 calorie bottle)

I mean...I CANNOT carry all that for an Ironman!  No way!  I need one stop shopping!  Or at least half stop shopping so I can carry half of it....

On another forum there was a question about how long will a bottle of InfinIT last if kept in the fridge? I had made myself two 2X concentrated bottles and made two for a buddy to try, but he was unable to ride. I now have two 2X bottles that I may not get a chance to use until next weekend. Also, if it is stored in the fridge for a day or two can it then be placed in the freezer for the following weekend?
