Bripod - 2008-11-23 7:19 PM I'd like to see Nebraska-Iowa, but with ND's loss yesterday it's looking like NU-FSU in the Gator. Still too early to tell, of course.

I don't see the bowls wanting a border state matchup even though NUs and IAs fans travel well. Are you guys sure you want to play us now? Iowa has caught fire in November...

Hey- the thread question was "which games do you wanna see?" Not "which games are likely?" But I hear what you're saying. Before the NU-KS/IA-PSU games, they were talking about a NU-IA matchup. Not sure the potentiality of that now, after the past two weeks. I am, however, excited to see NU get some votes in the AP and USAToday polls!

Even though Iowa is on a roll, I think Nebraska has worked out enough kinks to be very competitive with them. Nebraska is averaging 35 points per game to Iowa's 30, even after playing [and losing to, of course] 3 top-10 teams, compared to Iowa's 1 game vs. a T-10 team [though they do get a leg up because they actually won]. Again, I think it would be a really good game and I don't know who I'd expect to win. My boss is a big Iowa fan and he said Nebraska wouldn't do much against their defense, but that Iowa's offense is heavy in the run, which Nebraska has figured out on the defensive side of things. I take his opinion with a grain of salt, because Iowa is almost dead-even in run and pass yardage so far this season so his perception of their offense might not be that accurate.

From JournalStar.com, after tonight's win over CU:

Gator Bowl; Jacksonville, Fla.; Jan. 1, noon; TV: CBS

To pick Nebraska, Gator Bowl officials will have to bypass higher-ranked teams such as Missouri or Oklahoma State from the Big 12 and Pittsburgh from the Big East.

That said, it’s no secret that one of the reasons the Gator Bowl sought a Big 12 tie-in was to potentially land Nebraska. After Friday’s win, this looks like their year.

Possible opponents: Florida State, Georgia Tech or Miami.

Alamo Bowl; San Antonio; Dec. 29, 7 p.m.; TV: ESPN

If the Gator Bowl selects another Big 12 team ahead of NU, then the Huskers would be a sure bet for a return to the Alamo.

Bo Pelini was Nebraska’s interim head coach when NU played there in 2003. The Huskers returned in 2005 and defeated Michigan.

Possible opponents: Northwestern, Iowa or Michigan State.

Sun Bowl; El Paso, Texas; Dec. 31, 1 p.m.; TV: CBS

The Sun Bowl is only in play if the Gator Bowl chooses a team from the Big East, and that possibility diminished with West Virginia’s loss to Pitt on Friday.

But were that to happen, and the Alamo Bowl goes for a higher-ranked Big 12 team, Husker fans would be packing their bags for the Rio Grande.

Possible opponents: Cal, Oregon or Oregon State.

Still a possibility!

ETA: Not a very likely possibility, granted, because the Gator Bowl rep explicitly said that they're not looking for someone who lost their way into their game. Since it SEEMS LIKE OU is going to beat OSU and Missouri is a likely loser in the B12 championship game, I suspect they'll probably choose Nebraska over OSU and MU.

Oh brother, could you believe that?! The EXACT same play we ran against Kansas THREE WEEKS AGO! I could understand if maybe we did it TWO YEARS AGO. Sheesh. Glad Pelini took credit for it and called it the "bonehead play of the year".

Ya think Colorado was ready for it? It was like they were in the huddle when the play was called.

Well not to mention it was on a 50-yard attempt. How many Coloradn's were expecting them to actually try it? Then again, it was probably those same doubters who didn't try to get their hands up on that fatal 57-yarder. What a weird game.

Ok, we won't fake it, we will just back it up to the 40 yard line and let it loose again!!

Well ... I already bought my tickets for the Gator Bowl. 50-yard line, top tier. If NU doesn't go those puppies are going up on eBay. Even so, I may not be able to go. Which, you know, sucks. I didn't plan too well.
