counting swim laps (Page 2)

Swimomate watch for me. I've had mine for about 6 months - works great. The stats it gives you are great. Very motivating to see that you are improving. Not expensive either for what it does.

Yes, it's adjustable.

It records splits every time you hit the button.  So, if you're swimming 100's on 2:00, and you swim every one between 1:45 and 1:47, the splits/laps it records would look something like this (I'm rounding off to full seconds, but it actually records to .01 second:

Lap 1 - 1:45 (swim time)
Lap 2 - :15 (rest time)
Lap 3 - 1:47
Lap 4 - :13
Lap 5 - 1:46
Lap 6 - :14
Lap 7 - 1:45
Lap 8 - :15
Etc....

My wife bought me a Speedo watch for Christmas.  It has large lap count button which makes it easy to hit after a lap.  I like the SwimCount concept but I use swim gloves for some of my laps.

I use COUNTU Goal ring timer. It's easy to use for timer and lap counter at swimming, running or cycling. COUNTU has unique function, vibrate alarm function. If you preset a time goal or lap counting goal, it can vibrate to alarm you when you achieve the goal.
Try it. BTW, COUNTU series has another model, Tempo, which can be used as timer, lap counter and sports metronome for swimming, sunning, cycling or boxing.

I actually count in my head, and even as much as 60 lengths (sc) it works well. However I cannot count strokes while counting lengths at the same time as it is very easy to confuse the numbers, and I count strokes only per few lengths to make sure that I am going well.

In the 25 m pool I use, one end is shallow and one end is deep, and when I count from 60 to 0, when going from shallow to deep, the number decreases from even to odd, and when returning from deep to shallow, the number decreases from odd to even, so it is not easy to miscount (as the odd-even serves as a parity)

Know what you're going to swim before getting to the pool helps. . . if you go on knowing you'll do 5 sets of 50's, 5 sets of 100's, etc. . . then so long as you execute the plan. . .you know what the yardage is.

Then so long as you can count to 200y, you shouldn't need any additional devices. If you want to do continuous swimming, then just swim for a set amount of time and don't worry about counting the yards.

I use an old fashioned baseball umpire clicker. I leave it at the end of my lane, at the edge of the pool. I typically swim laps in sets of 100 yds. Every 4 laps (I seem to be able keep track up to 4) I give it a click.

My Suunto watch shows my current distance so no need to count. I could never remember what lap I was on before.
